Shooting At Heli's With ORDINARY Guns

Any point? If it's something like Wake and it's a "killing field" (ie a choper has got you and a bunch of guys in the open and is just firing rockets) i usually try and shoot a few shots at the chopper. I doubt it does much (if anything), but it makes the little red icon show (which may make him thing that actually he's being hit by something like a Jet) or perhaps I just like to feel like i tried (Rather than just standing still!) to save myself.

Any opinions?

It doesnt do any significant damage if thats what you were wondering, not even with a PKM.

It usually depends on the condition of the chopper that is attacking me.

If he's not smoking, and I get caught in the open, I'll usually try to run away and hide, or dive behind some cover, etc and won't bother trying to shoot at him. If he's smoking bad tho, I will most definitely give him some small arms fire; I've brought down choppers with pistol shots before (granted, someone else F'd them up, and I just finished off that last red bar of health as they were trying to get away, but still, it worked)

I always laugh when I'm in a chopper and take random ground fire from enemy soldiers; all that does is alert me to a free kill, when I otherwise would have passed them by.

Depends on what you consider significant. You'd need to fire hundreds of rounds to kill a helo but bullets from handheld weapons do damage them and enough damage will make them retreat if they're any good. Not as good as a kill but still worth doing for the team.

The M95 does a fair bit of damage to a chopper compared to other handheld weaponry (other than the AT rockets of course).

So, if you see a smoking chopper, shoot it with a couple of M95 rounds and it can go down.

Weird. I shot down a perfectly looking Ah1z or whatever, when i was china on wake. i was like lol

Oh yeah, forgot about M95's, they definitely do enough damage to make shooting at choppers worthwhile. It still takes something like 3 "clips" from a PKM to take down a full health chopper though.

Earlier today I took a potshot with my M95 at a Cobra strafing the Hotel flag on Sharqi. Through sheer luck I ejected the pilot and it crashed. Hackusations ensued as I laughed and laughed.

You will just give away your position :)

See if you can get 2+ snipers shooting at it. Then if heli is concentrating on something else you might do some damage. You needed 2 (or 3 don't remember) rounds of M95

how come almost every pilot who gets shot out of a helo whines about hacking. BTW the mounted MGs have the ability to take out pilots, at least in my experiance. if im wrong plz let me know. There is nothing better than watching a helo come strait at you and you fire a long burst, then watch as the helo spins as the pilot falls.:yay:
