lol no i just had a two page argument with a few people for calling it a simulator.. they seem to think i was wrong.. in the end i just gave in cuz i couldnt be bothered arguing it anymore :p

Heh. They seem to be hell-bent on nit-picking and being pedantic about the proper definition of a "simulator".

lol yeah.. as u can see from the thread i explained it in the most laymen terms i could and still got told i was wrong.. i even linked to sites (including Gamespot) with professional reviews that said it was a war simulator.. and they still dont believe me lol.. no use worrying about it i guess :P

Jesus titty f***ing Christ... A simulator is something that is supposed to be as close to real life as possible. ArmA is a simulator, Microsoft flight simulator is a simulator, BF2 is an arcadish game. It was never ment to be realistic.

SIGH i sick of this. Battlfield is NOT a simulator. It is not a FLIGHT simulator, it is not a GUN simulator, or a TANK simulator, its not even a TEABAG simulator. It is classified as an ARCADE shooter. There are games, and those can be broken down into genres, and sometimes those genres, (such as racing, flying and shooting) can be further broken down into either Arcade or Simulator.

Arcade- Doesn't focus on reality. Focuses more on fun, simple gameplay. Easy to learn, easy to play. Unrealistic most of the time. Examples: BF2, Need for Speed, Ace combat, Tony Hawk
Simulation- Has an almost obsessive focus on reality. So many options, and controls that you have to read the manual to figure out what everything does. REALISTIC PHYSICS. Examples: maybe CoD4 (dont know havent played it yet), Grand Turismo, MS Flight sim, and skate (skate is more of a sim than Tony Hawk)

Still not convinced? Let me ask you this: Do you have to adjust flaps while you are flying in BF2? What about calculating wind and gravity and distance while you are sniping with an adjustable sight? Do tank shells and AT rockets sometimes bounce off of other tank armor or sometimes not explode? If you get shot in the leg, can you still move, and run, and jump? Can you be revived after taking a full shrapnel blast from a grenade? or a headshot?

BF2 is not a simulation, its an arcade game. Nuff said.

I think BF2 qualifies as a simulation by the most general definition; it's just a really bad one compared to the others mentioned. It's a difference in degree, not in kind.

BF2 simulates a combat zone where bullets are less effective and much less is actually simulated, and in BF2 players can come back from the dead.

It is a GAME, NOT a simulator.

It's a simulation in the loose sense, but it wasn't designed to be a combat simulator.

heh who realy cares.. like i said i only retaliated to this because waaah_wah seems to have a habbit of trying to contradict most of which i say for some reason:hmm: and once again in this situation i wasnt wrong to reffer to it as a war simulator.. which i backed up numerouse times in the other thread.. so rather than continue this argument further, its probably best to just agree to dissagree, and maybe next time people wont be soo quick to try and correct someone on small petty details

anyway back on topic if a helicopter is going to kill u, by all means take a few shots at it.. make a last stand like someone already said if anything, shooting at the heli will also increase ur accuracy.. and there has been a few times i have killed a pilot with the .50 cal while he was trying to blow me away..

Last night I was in a not very populated server. There was a guy trying to learn how to fly the heli and I was sniping their base w/ the M-95.

He finally got the thing up and circled the base trying to find/kill me as I shot the chopper repeatedly with the M-95. After about 6 shots, it started smoking. About 6 more and it started flaming.

I whipped out my pistol to finished it off, just for kicks. I was a bit bummed however when it said that I merely "killed" the guy. It didn't show that I pistoled him.

I've taken a couple of Helicopters down with a pistol - a la John McLane - in my day. Ironically I've never killed a pilot yet.
