wow,i didnt know that this was such a touchy subject:) but, iagree with a lot of what you guys said, and i agree with xX5niperXx that everybody at one time was a noob and you should atleast give them a chance.but, that makes sense i guess that someone wouldl just wanna solo and, switch seats and get kills on there own.now sloi, u seem to take this way to serious and think your untouchable or something.thats what i wassayin, icant stand peoplel that play like that.but thx for all the replys, now i know im not the only one dealin with this.

I does happen, but what you're doing is pigeonholing everyone when only 10% (perhaps less) engage in the kind of behavior so often and unfairly attributed to us. The reality is, heli teams are just as guilty and justify it by saying they want to fly with a specific teammate.

Again, most of us are quite content with a competent pilot or gunner. But many won't tolerate incompetence after being made aware of it...

Say that after playing Cynic, Spara, Pred or any other competent soloer. Your tune will change pretty quickly: emphasis is placed on the TV missile because once it becomes an extension of your body, in a manner of speaking, you can combine it with flying techniques that make you nearly impervious to attacks from anyone, often excluding but sometimes including jets.

Once you've spotted us, you won't get 50 yards in before being taken down. This isn't an attack on your ability, either: even I find it's a risky proposition to go up against another soloer or chopper team without TV missiles. Attempting to get in range to use unguided rockets against an intelligent team using ranging and TV missiles is often a futile endeavor.

What you're describing is an endless series of (hopefully) successful dodges in order to get within range to use rockets: the reality is, any good soloer or team will keep you out of attack range... and odds are they'll take you down well before you can pose a threat.

Rocket-only fights had their place in the BF2 Demo and early patch days... but with the release of videos from Redux and other pioneers, those techniques are antiquated.
well i dont know who said most but in my experience i agree with them, thats why i abandoned it. dont get me wrong theres loads of sound people around but it seems like every other round is a chore. in IO maps the biggest pisser is people who teamkill but they get kicked soon enough so i stick with that.

I think you're a combination of no knowledge of BF2 combined with actual poor argument technique. If you're piloting a helicopter, and your gunner does not use his tv's, you're an easy, flying kill for someone to come along and take. It doesn't matter how good you are.

Like I said, I bought my game to play it, not babysit and educate new players, if you're into that kind of stuff then by all means go ahead

Buddy, you're the one proposing we let you hinder the team's combat efforts by allowing you to learn on the job, something you're not likely to do anyway, and yet I'm the disrespectful one for being humorous on a forum?

Besides, I'm about as much of an authority on choppers as you're likely to find on this forum at any given time, so when I have insights and explanations to share on everything heli related, you should shut up and listen.

Of course, I don't mean any offense by it... so please don't take any of this as insults.

It's unfortunate that many of these people post about subjects they are (for the most part) ignorant of. A lot of their misconceptions would go away if they actually paid their dues in singleplayer or local servers... but that's always too much to ask.

My signature deals with this subject in a roundabout way.

And while I don't consider myself the best thing since sliced bread, I recognize that not many have achieved the level of success I've had in these helis... when does it stop being arrogance and begins being a simple statement of facts? I'm not going around blowing my horn, but apparently that's the way a lot of you seem to see it.

          Oh well.

Tell me... what am I, as a gunner, supposed to do against a competent soloer or heli team when my pilot doesn't line me up for shots or fails to dodge the incoming threats? I can't fire sh*t if he doesn't give me a shot.

You should watch a few helicopter videos and actually sit in one for at least 50 hours worth before coming in these threads, talking about things you clearly shouldn't.

If one person isn't doing his job in the heli, both suffer as a result. I'm not even getting into how bad this is for the team as a whole. A jet can be very useful, but only a heli can stay in your face and constantly prevent you from capping a flag.

Guess what happens when Noobie McNub decides to (unknowingly) hinder his team...

your leet skills are too powerful for us O Jedi master. oh btw its just a game:laugh:

Yeah, players who are skilled are usually annoying.

That is such a bad argument.

                      Actually, I do care.

That's why I cuss a storm in-game when our jets are preoccupied with loop-de-looping around instead of bombing, keeping the enemy jets busy and attacking helis. I also just love when our choppers are flying around aimlessly, snapping pictures of the horizon and reciting poetry to one another.

Nothing pisses me off more than seeing valuable assets being misused. Losing != having a good time, and I sure don't like making an effort, only to see everyone else sitting on their backsides discussing a Hamlet passage.

If you're incompetent in air vehicles, why not practice elsewhere and leave the assets for people who actually know what they're doing? You can still help and have fun capping flags. It doesn't take extensive practice to do that.

I fly solo, without the damned tv, and I can take on most competent chopper pilots/guners. It's surprisingly easy to avoid those missiles if you know about how long it takes for them to recharge. I see people doing this rediculous barrel roll... sure it works, put it tends to put the other chopper at an advantageous altitude. Tv's just spoil the fun of choppers imo. It doesn't take half as much skill as killing a chopper from the pilot seat.

I'd love to see you kill me with hydra missiles from your pilot seat when I'm 445m away taking a shot and backing up at the same time.

                        PS: I never miss.

                          Exactly.

You can't fly into someone who's backing away, keeping you at range and simultaneously taking TV shots he seldom misses.

You know how they say it's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt? TAKE A HINT.

We know what we're talking about. You don't. Accept your position and go cap a f*ckin' flag.

one thing if guy can shot down something once in a while, another thing if you see he is not even aiming close all the time. I would get pissed off and rather fly
                              jet.

Also Recently i have noticed high increase in wannabe gunners who always switch to gun once their are in the chopper, but can't gun for ****.

Lack of decent pilots is sad nowadays. Everyone wants to be a gunner but they are so bad thats its creates this very negative situation.

If you can't gun, fly piloting and leave other part to better players.

The way I see it, as a long-time BF2 player, not skilled at the level Sloi is (people, please put your egos aside and admit it, or at least do some research, this guy *IS* really good. There are amazing players out there), but not Cpt. Random MacNooblet either, is this:

The subtle, but crucial, difference between the helicopters/jets/tanks and normal infantry combat is simple.

When you buy BF2, play offline for a couple hours and hop into a pub server not terribly experienced and play medic, that's fine. If you die most of the match, that's fine. It'll cost your team some tickets, but it's nothing that a good team can't overcome (at least on a pub level).
Even if you end up with 2 kills and 20 deaths, it's not a big deal. If your team is truly better than the other one, they'll win.
You know why that is? The only resources you are wasting is your own time and 'life'. Everyone has their own time and life, so you're not denying anything to your team members.

Now, when you take a valuable asset like a helicopter that there's only one of and decide to use it to go do barrel rolls into buildings, you are denying your team one of the key things they need to win this match. Please remember that not only are you preventing anyone from using the helicopter effectively, you are also making your teammates die a lot more. Since there's no one around to take out the enemy helicopter, it will be able to kill infantry unhindered for most of the match. Your team will have a significantly harder time capping flags, or even just surviving.

                                --

Maybe this'll explain it: a soccer reference
-When you are learning online 'infantry style', in soccer you would be sprinting across the field uselessly, wasting your own breath and missing some passes that others would have pulled off. It's not optimal, but it's something a good team can cover for.
-Learning online in a chopper is like constantly tackling your own goalie. No matter how good your own team is, the opponent will be able to score again and again and again without serious effort, because you have no real defense to speak of. Most of the time, your team's goalie will be lying on the ground, or yelling at you, or trying to fight you off. While the action of tackling players is well meant, you're doing it wrong and hurting your team to such a degree that they are at a serious disadvantage.

I hope that explains it :)

I sympathise with you and I disliked being 'kicked out' of choppers when I was new to the game, but there is a very good reason for this behaviour.
While some people are arrogant pr*cks that seem to think they are the best pilot ever, you'll find most people have simply seen so many newbies take control of the guns and fail miserably that they automatically assume you will as well.

The best way to fly helis in BF2 is to squad up with someone, and have sufficient practice OFFLINE.
