You have a point about air vs. infantry imbalance, but not against armour. There's nothing imbalanced about tanks or APCs and their relationship with infantry. There's an entire class devoted to taking them out, and two others that can do so as well if need be, in addition to mounted TOW missiles. That's the reason many people played Karkand, since it was the only map in the game with absolutely zero air vehicles on the larger versions. But for many people avoiding air simply wasn't enough, because now they kept complaining that the tank was killing them all the time. Well here's the thing - if the tank keeps killing you all the time, stop doing the same thing that keeps getting you killed. I used to love it when the USMC tank would camp the hotel instead of driving past to take a back base because it meant he's not going to be capping any flags. This was the easiest vehicle 'whore' to deal with because unlike 90% of the MEC on Karkand I didn't keep spawning at the hotel and spending my whole round in Cluster**** Alley. Spawn at Square, grab AT, tank gone. If he's got a supply box next to him, AT that first, then get to the tank. Either the tank would have to retreat, or he would die. Either way, problem solved - tank gone.

Problem is, most people didn't like doing that because it didn't get them the same l33t KDR that being a medic would or the same amount of points that being a support would. That's the underlying reason for most people wanting IO. The people who bought this game not wanting vehicles in it simply purchased the wrong game. Of all the maps this game came with, how many of them are successfully running IO right now?

Not that I care anymore. :p

Well I suppose it was just an amalgamation of everything. An infantry would have to deal with everything. I felt many times overwhelmed with the amount of obstacles thrown at me. It sucked to over come multiple obstacles only to be crushed in the end by artillery (only an example). I remember having intense infantry fights being ruined by artillery or plane bombings.

I doubt that I was the only person fed up but apparently everyone in seems to think differently.

So youre offended by the mere fact that I am not ignorant about my position as an infantry grunt while you are?

Heh, well I'm biased against artillery because I'm a self-professed artillery magnet. People know to stay the hell away from me because if arty's going to fire, it's going to be on me.

Either way, they shouldnt have released that crap @$$ title, 2142 until they fixed the issues with BF2. EA/Dice buncha money grubbin hoes. A tweaked BF2 engine for 2142, and they didnt even get that right. Fix the problem at hand before going on to another title. Dolphin Diving, and bunny hopping were NEVER supposed to be included into the game. But low and behold here we are.
Iam not buying crap(BF series) from EA/Dice anymore, until they come up with a solid game. BF2, and 2142 are not it.

Okay....how the hell did you come to that conclusion?

Its funny how you can write a 5 page response and expect people to read it (trust me no one does) but yet can't comprehend simple sentences.

Please explain to me how you possibly came to that conclusion from anything I said. You know what never mind....I dont feel like reading one of your essay responses.

Okay, so Chris is saying he understands that infantry is at the bottom of the food chain and gets pwned by everything while Nic is saying he hates that infantry is at the bottom of the food chain and gets pwned by everything.
Can't we all just get along?
The difference is like strawberry jam vs grape jelly. Some like playing as infantry without dealing with vehicles, they're grape jelly. Some people like some seeds and chunks in their $hit, the strawberry jam type, by throwing in vehicles to use or watch out for. I prefer some jam, myself. To each his own.

Except that quite simply, BF2 is not Counter Strike. And by giving an option to people to choose servers where there are no vehicles, makes the server choice for us, very narrow. The reasons for supporting IO or hate for vehicles in general, in every threat there has been in TBF2, has boiled down to KDR and points. Vehicles limit the talented players, so they go to IO where they can rape everything and everyone while being unchallenged. Might sound hypocritical, coming from a jet pilot, however you dont see me going into IO, even though Im raped and killed by vehicles just as much.

People wanting the game to be forged to their liking are today responsible for limited vanilla server options and amusingly, horrible infantry play itsself.

All these claims of theories without observations by statistics...makes every theory stated here a hypothesis : /

Therefore there is no end to this argument unless someone here mines the # of players present before I/O was introduced and find the proportion between vehicle mode / infantry mode servers and players, while at the same time accounting the fact that it's normal for a player to play both modes and that the overall population has been declining simply due to age.

                      As for my stance:

This is Battlefield 2, a vehicle AND infantry warfare game. Infantry only players, GTFO.

                        As of right now:

Total people playing BF2 (including mods): 16917
Total people playing IO: 5517 (32.6%)
Total people on IO playing Strike at Karkand: 3933 (71.2% of total IO, 23.2% of total players)

So yes, people who have stuck around BF2, at least two out of every 3, prefer something a little bit more than just infantry only combat, yet rather than spending time fixing AA missiles or the jet imbalances, they made IO. So 2/3 of the playerbase gets to play the part of the game that's still borked while the vocal minority got their own game mode. And as I said before, IO should have been named KWV, as almost 3/4 of the people playing IO are playing that one map. Granted, the numbers may fluctuate, but I get the suspicion they're close enough to the overall truth.

Edit: Oh, and for comparision, current people playing CoD4 (which, although I've never played it, is focused purely on infantry): 30716. Not even twice as many as all of BF2, and not quite three times as much as non-IO in a game that's almost two years old. So just tell me people don't enjoy playing a game as dynamic as a combined-arms game like BF2. Again, vocal minority.

And I know there are a lot of CoD4 fans in here so I didn't post that to say anything bad about the game or the playerbase, so put away thine torches and pitchforks. :p
