Seriously though. Discussiing realism is not pointless, people like their games to be realistic, and although perfect realism will never be achieved, the games themselves can try to be as realistic as possible, simply making them better.
Like RugerDog implied, there needs to be a balance between realism and fun.
There is nothing stopping games for implementing the realistic rules that I described, but they will be utter failures because real war is not fun.

People like their games to feel realistic, like in Hollywood realistic. But they will not like them to be realistic.

Very well put, you beat me to it. I'm sure 80+% of the fps world agrees on this (forums aren't the majority).

I Stand by my first point, Cod 2 was a great WW2 FPS, but it did'nt have that WOW factor, Cod 4 has done the same if not worse, its a wannabe BF2 game thats worse, how do they expect to compete. Only reason the Cod 4 numbers have gone up is because people want to be Hip and up to date.

People who want the game more realistic are just those who die too much and are looking for something they can blame their lack of skill on. Aside from the jumping 6 feet high and all the jet imbalances and glitches the game is at a preety good point between fun and realisim.

I don't see what the big deal is with the hit detection it seems to work fine for me.

            I disagree.

              Tadaa!

The rest, I agree with too. Balance doesnt mean the 50/50 mark, it merely means that the game has an optimum mix between the two. And it does, otherwise it wouldnt be played.

IMO the health system should compliment the game. The best games in the world are as "free" and "fluid" and "dynamic", as humanly possible, sacrificing as little as possible to the shackles of real life. When it comes to videogames, inarguably the rule "fun over everything else" should apply.

Well, then we have different oppinions. I like more "complicated" games. Why are we even arguing then...?

No it doesnt. Youre applying your own limited and immature point of view as a standard to all games. Amusingly enough, games you recommend are played by less than 500 players each. While there are morethan 200000 PC FPS players online at a time. Needless to say, the general majority disagrees with you. But then again, youre 17, and "common sense" isnt filed in your vocabulary yet.

And why do numbers matter..? Is metal better than indie rock just coz more ppl listen to metal?

Youre missing the point and the sarcasm. Youre the one crying after realism. So why not total realism? You know, Hideo Kojima wanted to actually design a game, at which when you die, you need to buy a new one (some Metal Gear title). Would be perfect for a "realism buff" like you. So what do you want? Realism or teamwork? Flawless fun or realistic shackles? Youre jumping from wall to wall, so you dont even know what you want yourself. And a class named "medic" hardly promotes "teamwork". SWAT4 doesnt have medics, and it has a very high level of teamwork. In CS, you can have a high level of teamwork, without "medics".

Relative realism is much better than total realism, we are after all talking about games here. And medic class doesnt promote teamwork in BF2 coz its a "rambo class". Dice kinda messed up when they made a supportive class so effective and powerful. Right now, assault class in BF2 is not even needed coz a medic can do everything the assault can (exept GL) do and then some more, Take a look at PR or ArmA. There you have medics, but they are not powerfull at all, and therefore need protection from other players, and therefore promoting teamwork and kinda force ppl to team up.

Generally, when people state their opinions as facts, and fight fiercly over them, they are "experts". In other times, they just know jack. In this case, you missed sarcasm.

Well, then we have different oppinions. I like more "complicated" games. Why are we even arguing then...?
You tell me, youre the one telling that regen sucks, which means you cannot aknowledge the simple fact that different things work for different games. The real question would be, why are you arguing? And COD4 health system isnt any less complicated than throwing medic bags. In fact, it adds a whole layer of tactical offensive gameplay which Ive already desribed. In order for a player to keep the advantage, he has to press on and keep the initiative. This offers a whole breeding ground for exciting tactical possibilities ending in uncertain ways, whereas throwing a medpack on the ground behind you, before engaging in battle, gives you a possibility to recreate status quo any time you want to.

And why do numbers matter..? Is metal better than indie rock just coz more ppl listen to metal?
The numbers say this much- people disagree with your fanboyistic hate and rage.

Relative realism is much better than total realism, we are after all talking about games here.
Im glad, it only took you 3 damn days to grasp the concept.

And medic class doesnt promote teamwork in BF2 coz its a "rambo class".
Right. When Im a SQL in BF2, I exclusively play Medic. It gives me the chance to rely on my teammates in case I die, and gives me the chance to revive my teammates if I see the situation call for it. But thats not the point.

The point is, you have no clue. Its not the "class" that does the teamwork, its the player. Medic class is only a rambo class in BF2IO and even then, its only because the class uses assault rifles and instahealing medpacks. Doesnt mean the class offers any less teamwork. Thats a stupid notion, youll hear frequent IO players praise IO all the time, saying 6Xmedics squads in Karkand IO are perhaps the most teamwork-able groups in the game. So no, YOUR opinion formed on limited experience and unlimited prejudice does not really count for much.

Take a look at PR or ArmA. There you have medics, but they are not powerfull at all, and therefore need protection from other players, and therefore promoting teamwork and kinda force ppl to team up.
Blah blah blah PR blah blah blah ArmA.

Take a look at SWAT4. No medics. But in certain gamemodes, theres specific goals to meet, and people will cover each other, leapfrog, flank and whatnot else in order to meet the objective. And it doesnt have a "Medic class".

It is much easier to coordinate an infantry squad on Karkand or a tank column on Highway Tampa than it is to coordinate room clearing on COD4, as by the time you try to issue an order most times you are already dead. This is easier if the server doesn't have many players on it, but then you lose the whole scale of the battle , as 5v5 infantry just doesn't have the same feel as 32-64 people duking it out on a wide open battlefield.

Would help a lot if the servers and people used ****ing voip. I get the feeling most don`t even know about it.
But I see that being useful on on 3 maps.

I hate shipment, it makes me want to bang my head against the keyboard every time I see that it is being switched to. With 32 people it is an absolute free-for-all.

OMG I still don't understand why people want to play shipment with more than 16 players...

Shipment is imo perhaps the best map in CoD4 as long as there's around 6-12 players. Very compact and it requires you to think logically, fast. I like it

But I really miss the huge maps (compared to CoD) you find in any BF game, from 1942 to 2142.

Oh, right, this is the BF2 forum... You may now continue to flame each other, waaah and chris

Headquarters. If there was any game, ever, that made you think faster than act, while the latter was at sonic speed, its COD4s HQ gamemode.

It always puts my creativity to the ultimate test. Which is why I always carry C4 with me. Jump the HQ, plant C4 and bugger out. Stay if youre alone, jump if youve got help. Noone excepts C4 nowadays, so I get my airstrikes and chopper calls in pretty much "notime". The balance between offensive, defensive and stealthy gameplay switches so fast in HQ, that it really does require somewhat inhuman skills to be good at. Notably mental skills.

As such, no. You wont get the desired teamwork off a 30+ match. Theres really no room and no time for it. However, smaller matches are a godsend. I myself enjoy the rather awesome pace. COD4 literally switches my brain off from the daily troubles and provides the unequal fun factor to my gaming. At least its a worthy successor to SWAT4 and BF2.

Yeah hq is the best game mode, too bad that there aren't many good/small servers with decent pings that run it.

Don't dare put words in my mouth. Quote me where I said "realistic games are good, non realistic games suck".

You won't be able to, because I didn't say it, but you simply assumed it.

Realism makes games better. That's my opinion.

I'd like to play a game with guns, jets, and tanks, than a game with magical flying mushrooms and tomato armor.

The same applies to literature - maybe you like reading un-realistic, childish fiction, but personally I believe realism makes it better.
