Approximate time it took for me to get to 2:1 KDR average in BF2- about 300-500 infantry play hours.
Approximate time it took for me to get to 2:1 KDR average in COD4- about 30 hours.

Take it any way you want it, thats how it looks to me. However, the reason why one will find it harder to master BF2, is because you need to circumvent the random cone of fire. In COD4 its simple, if youve got the "game" and the "brains", its not hard to learn through the maps and start getting good results. In BF2, maps are HUGE and the weapons are unreliable to say the least, which means that learning the fine quirks, insides and outsides of firearm combat is harder. Now, one may think that this means BF2 is less noobfriendly. On the contrary. COD4 directly rewards those with better aim, better situational awareness, and better thinking and maneuvering. While BF2 does not reward those until theyve invested considerable ammount of time into the game to learn, what many gamers would say, the useless things (like engagement distances, firing mechanics). Basically, it takes longer to master BF2, because its pisspoor in all of its infantry aspects. Seeing someone does not constitute as a kill, being out in the open does not mean youre making a tactical mistake. But in COD4, people slip, they pay for it.

I guess what I wanted to say was that seeing and shooting someone accurately first SHOULD be a kill. If I sneak up on someone and knife them in the back of the head in most games, they're looking up at the sky feeling stupid for not paying attention. It should be like that in BF2, but a lot of times they hear the "chink, chink, puff, puff" of the knife, or gun for that matter, and turn around and get the shot off. Luck should very rarely trump skill. The only reason it should ever trump skill is so people of lower skill think they have a chance. "Yay, I killed the uberpwner of the server! If I practice I might end up as good as him!" And it should be a rare occurence. In this game most people get to the high ranks by playing more than everyone else, not by being better. Sure, they learn a lot in that time. But a guy who spams grenades on Karkand for 2000 hours will never be as good as the guy who can use cover and squad tactics to out maneuver the enemy. Even if the grenade spammer will usually have a higher score and therefore rank than the tactician in BF2.

I've also been comparing the ways I die in both games. Here's what I've found:

          - I rarely get "out shot" in COD4, as more often than not, it's bad timing and luck on my part since people spawn or appear near a place I've been covering and deemed safe prior to moving to another location. In BF2, this rarely happens... but we could attribute that to the large maps.

          - In COD4, if I spot you, have a clear shot and you're within 40 yards, goodbye. In BF2, no matter what the distance is, I always hope the shots will register... regardless of whether or not you're stationary and all that good stuff.

I might think of more to add, but I want to get back to Portal mapping... later ya'll.

            lets also brake this down

map size - there is about 500 million more things that have to regester when there is cars, jets, tanks, swiming and parachouts in a game, so the game takes time for this to process. Cod 4 maps are TINY and the hit detection reply's to it, it does not take much skill on cod 4 when people spray at you, you can not be good at cod4 you can just have luck.

By your logic, I should be given straight A's all through my educational period because there are so many things going on in my life that I can't possibly concentrate on those classes alone.

              Please...

If you're going to do something, do it right. The truth is, COD4's infantry is vastly superior to BF2's.

You know why COD 4 is poor? Noob friendly, its only noob friendly because all of the hacks people used to do, wallhacks and such, well they've just put them into the game as a feature.......WHAT! its a game for noobs, easy points for point whores.

Do you automatically get healed in CoD4 or something?

Actually he's right, and what you just said didn't really apply at all.

<Using your analogy> CoD 4 is like somebody taking advanced mathematics, and Battlefield 2 is somebody taking a broad range of 10 subjects.

                    Personally, I'd prefer BF2.

Health generation and the tiny maps are the only things I *snip* hate with passion. The fukers had to please the console crowd and do it like Halo does.

It`s sad how BF2`s broken infantry gameplay has twisted players`, who have never played another infantry game in their life except for CS WHICH IS TEH SUCK LOLOLOLO, view on how infantry should be played.
Some even go so far as say that cone of fire makes you think tactically (you are forces to move closer, etc,), which is complete bs, and accurate guns are for those who can`t aim.
FFOW forums is turning into another recoil vs cone of fire depates.

Yeah. This is how it works. You have 100 damage hitpoints, and different weapons do different damage over different range, with different equipment (as such, a silencer breaks a weapons damage down by 30-50%, and reduces its range by 50-70%). So if we take weapon A, which does 40 hitpoints of damage at close range, it does 30 hitpoints damage over X range (as bullet loses energy over distance). So if you hit someone, theres a 5 second pause before they start regenerating, and they regenerate in 2 seconds. This means, that you HAVE to keep pressure on your opponent. Every time you even slightly damage your opponent, the regeneration timer (5 seconds) resers, and since you can shoot through most walls giving variable levels of damage (95%, 70%, 30% out of the damage), you can keep your opponent pinned down, or even kill the bastard.

Regenerative health keeps focus on the firefight and opens up a lot of cool options.

And from realism point of view, no different than magical medipacks.

BS. Mods can pull it off just fine. POE2 and PR for example.

Why do you have to break my heart and say something like that?

Ive played all types of the games. With healthpacks, with no regeneration/healthpacks and with regeneration. Out of them all, SWAT4 is the harshest. You get hit in the foot, you limp, you get hit in the hand, you lose your accuracy (thats painful), you get hit in your gun, you lose accuracy. You get your helmet/head "scratched", you lose accuracy. And theres no way to get back, so it definitely pushes you back, a lot. In BF2, magical healthpacks offer your victim (or you), a safe heaven in case a firefight breaks loose. In COD4, at least you have the option to continue the fight, and in the same time, you have a chance of keeping your opponent low on health and keep your tactical options open for aslong as you want to (or be able to).

The health regeneration is retarded.. After you get shot you should loose health instead of magically healing yourself. IMO it would be alot better if you would start to bleed and had to use a field dressing or whatever to stop the bleeding but not get any health back

Its not retarded if it works fine. And it does work fine. Far better than healthpacks, dare I say.

Have you ever treated a gunshot wound to the gut?
