Don't:
Ever shoot at a tank with a machinegun.
Spam grenades on a FF on server
Play on a FF off server - it's full of grenade spammers/RDX bunnyhoppers
Use the gunship as transport (although now that there are more gunships this is not as bad as it used to be)
Routinely ram ground targets with the transport
Routinely use a sniper rifle unless you are really, really good with it
Cheat

Using the accipter/being a bad SL
Standing while trying to res someone
Standing infront of friendly APMs (and then punishing for it)
Punishing any and every TK even accidental or "ok" TKs

DunNa's Protips
-When trying to knife someone aim for the legs, for whatever reason it has better hit detection there.
-Aim for armor weak spots, this is huge if your playing engie or using a rosch. APC wheels, tanks back or even there tracks/hover jets, Walkers butt or vents. These are the places to aim for if you can and you will generally drop any of these peices of armor to half health or less from a shot landed there.
-Before capping a flag make sure to destroy all "flamable" objects around it before your teammates/you get there. Afew bullets or a nade can set those off and kill most/all of the people on the flag.
-Crouch around contested corners and such this will greatly cut down on your APM deaths in pubs.
-Flanking is your best friend, learn the maps and try to flank your enemy. This is probably the best tip in the world, if you are shooting them in the back they arn't going to shoot you. Bypassing "cluster****s" will really help your KD and you'll do alot better score wise as you will most likely get more kills.

Had this game not even a week yet. But, I can tell you all this from well, being a Noob in BF2142.

1.) Enjoying the scenary, large maps. (Wow, look at the sun set!). Checking things out (What does this do?)
2.) Running in an open large fields/openned areas (eventually alone), where the dogs (enemy) can see you, and possibly laugh and say to themselves "This guy is a gonner and mine!"
3.) Parachuting from Playing BF2 and Special forces, I had the habit of using the other key "0". How little I knew the space bar would be a default setting, but all else (keyboard settings) is the same in BF2 and SF. Jumping from high places (titan) wasn't my thing. Now I know.
4.) I never be a pilot/gunner of gunships or other flying vehicles, and only lifted to areas in transports. I leave that to the pro's, as long as I am being protected from air assualts. We can work together nicely. Falcon 4.0 is my simulator, and my flight sim for now.
5.) Trying to get into places that are inpossible. For one, thinking you can jump higher than the last jump to get on a building, a good hiding place or over box's. I was able to in BF2, in some areas. Secondly, doors that do not open, thinking they do, because other ones do else where like the one near by. Just because "E" specifies "Enter". Yes, I done it a few times. Trying to find that secret room/path on a map, thinking that their is secret room full of consoles and goodies, that can possibly win the game. Now that is a laugh.

Such an awesome game. Now all we need is a good hand to hand combat, instead of knife dancing.

That's not so bad, i usually use guys i just revived as baits so i can kill who is shooting them easier, and then revive him again.

For me APM is the biggest noob thing in 2142.

hm well i dont find APMs much of a prob cos i used to be recon myself. it's quite amusing how a recon sees me and starts hopping around dropping APMs, and i'd kill him and rdx his corpse and the APMs.

anyway a newb tip, APC grenade launchers have an arc and a HUGE splash.
i saw some hapless corporal get kicked cos he fired grenades too low and instead of hitting the enemies behind the wall he ended up killing a WHOLE friendly squad o.O and you know how most people punish for APC TKs

I think the major things have been said, just a few hints for new "becoming" players:

1. Situational awareness: use the minimap, look around every few seconds, see if your teammates wear dark (PAC) or light (EU) outfit so that you don't waste time waiting for the red square to appear before shooting.

2. Don't thing you have a better weapon, if you get shot back while shooting, duck for cover. It will save you a lot of damage. Instead, shoot at unsuspected enemies or, if spotted, never shoot from the same spot twice because they will probably waiting for your head to pop out right there.

3. Learn your weapons, know their pros and cons and when to use each one. If you like one, stick to it and learn it exceptionally well, you will be more valuable to your team.

4. Combat is not just shooting. Learn how to use revives, health kits, resupplies, repairs, sensors, mines, beacons. It may seem a simple shootup game, but winning a round takes a lot more that good shooting.

5. Finally, play unpredictably. If there are more than one ways to do something, choose the the least common one, provided it's not suicide. This way you will probably avoid easy traps like snipers, mines, campers, etc.

1. Not joining a squad and actually sticking together.
2. Not reviving / Not using unlocks properly (APMs facing a wall is an example)
3. Not using cover
4. Not looking at your minimap
5. Not using the vehicles in your base
6. Accusing someone of hacking, glitching, cheating, breaking server rules and so on. All it does is make you angrier and not have as much fun, while the accused is probably laughing and having fun... It's just a game!
The maps are huge, adjust your playing style, kit, strategy, etc. to adjust to what's happening. If someone's bothering you (eg. always outsniping you?), do something else.

1! Leaving the walker when being shot at. I have seen this a couple of times, most of the time it's someone from my own team that is leaving the walker in the middle of the battlefield. No need to say that soon the enemy will take the walker.
If you take the walker, you die with the walker. That's how I do it. Only exit it to repair in a safe place.

no place is safe for emp/orbital on most (non titan) maps.i just walk to a friendly walker. let him repair me and let him in(if no1 is in second seat). always be in your walker you can never know if an enemie broke trough the lines and sees you repair. and decides to kill you. never leave the walker. espacially if you are alone and there is an enemie even if you arent shot at and he's taking the last flag. get another.

Teamwork is a lot of fun. But it's not always that easy to find a good squad doing some teamwork. So most of the time you end up in a squad with no teamwork at all - partly why my Lone Wolf time is so high, I don't join random squads. Sometimes I do, just to leave it again and do my own thing.
But of course, on several servers, you can see which squads do good teamwork, and luckily they invite me faster than I could join manually.
