What's the point of the Ghillie Suit if you can't hide?

All the hype surrounding the Ghillie suit was BS it seems.

Today I playing overgrown with a ghillie and a Dragunov. Got a few kills, great. Then I thought, "Hey it's a Ghillie Suit, why don't I blend in and hid in the grass and snipe from there?"

This is where the suit f41ls. If you lie prone in the grass you can't see squat! If you get up into a crouching position you can see and start shooting, but people can see you because your upper body and head are visible.

This sucks. I was hoping to snipe camoed in the grass where no one can see me but it turns out the grass is too tall to see anything. Also, the only map where the ghillie suit is helpful is Overgrown...

    Does anyone agree with me?

    hmmm, to an extent.

I see where you would have problems in a prone position. Now I am not the greatest sniper by any means, far from it in CoD4, but what I do if I want to crouch is find a nice mossy tree and be next to it, to cover my outline. That works well.

As for prone, what I did, and it was great, the guy said it scared the **** out of him, was I proned in a grassy travelled area. As the enemy walked by, I SPRANG UP and struck with my knife.

Also used prone crawl to hide after I was found out and they started hunting me. It worked.

So, I think you just need to look around you a little more and use your surroundings. I say that because it worked for me and Im not that great at sniper.

damn, i wish it wasnt like that in real life too...

but you can always get up on an elevated spot, move a few cm's to move the grass from the view etc...

        Yep, thats what I do.
I also kneel in bushes and shrubs and around the mossy trees for cover. Granted, the maps are so small, you really can't hold a good hiding spot for long, especially in servers that have KillCam on.

I just lay down next to a tree like some said, or get a high ground. But yes, the grass needs a little cut..

I guess the fat dude forgot to mow the grass again

Use camo smartly. Damn, you can be unseen when next to a wall at times without the ghillie. All about what you, your gun and what your surroundings look like.

I play with a few good snipers who always wear their ghillie suit. They all run around with R700's and silenced M4's and I never, ever know where they kill me from when they kill me.

Well, practice is all I can say. I can hide/snipe fine.

And blank, use UAV, even if they have the jammer there shots show up.

Sparklet, but when they have UAV up, UAV Jammer only protects you when you're not firing. And when you're sniping and fire, it gives you away. It's hard to win.

Does anybody else see the little white/yellow tracer when you fire? That gives you away as well.

I'm too noobilicious for Hardcore mode. Give me a little more time to learn the game, then I'll probably be a Hardcore junkie looking for another fix.

I found a hardcore server within the first 2 hours, and can't stand non-hardcore servers anymore.
