The key to this game IMO is all about having the better position and having cover. A bf2 video on youtube that always gets me juiced to play is called "Duck and Cover". That type of play style has been nerfed incredibly, but it still works. Always try to have an elevated position too. I have a really good idea on how to predict how the game will go depending on base location, but ill save that for another thread.

great! I want to thank everyone for yor replies .. I was seriously thinking about folding the bf2 game cd into two pieces and throwing it out the window. However now that i know there is body armor ,, now i know why i get the jump on guys shoot them numerous time before they start on me and i still die first. Im the kind of guy that would rather throw th 50.00 game in the garbage than continue to get ripped off. But thanks now I have a little hope that thing will get better when i get to do some unlocks . thnx again!!!!

some of those basic weapons are nice, i like the anti tank one, and the assaults, well really there all good , just get down anytime u see anyone (prone i mean) and aim at there HEAD, LOL 1shot to head is kill
use burst

when u learn game good play a mod, no unlocks there

As for being slaughtered, you just have to learn when to run away and when to engage the enemy. Most new people try and go into every firefight, and thus die quickly, a good player knows when he is out powered, and therefore will hide and set up some kind of ambush etc...

U will eventually wonder how you owned so many people in certain circumstances or how you made a particular shot from 800 meters away. PRACTICE!

This won't help you at all, but I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only player who gets slaughtered ! I've had BF2 since December 06 but only have around 40 hours of play in total . . . I'd expect to be better by now. :cry:

My wife laughs at me when I say "I think I'll have a game tonight", she just knows that very soon I'll be trying to ram my index finger right through the keyboard in anger when I hit respawn again and again !

I'm also one of those who seems to empty a crate full of ammo at the enemy and then get killed with just 1 or 2 shots. I've tried the 'prone & shoot' thing but the other guy often seems to roll in mid air, go prone and get me with a single shot . . . . WTF ! . . . how do they do that by the way ?

Last night I played on a 'Road to Jalalawhatsit' server with around 60 players, I was shamed into being bottom on 2 rounds.

What's the best kit to go with for a lesser experienced player ?

have u checked your ping? hit that tab key when in game & look at your ping, if its above 100 find another server. if you screen laggs or "chopps" this is probably nutting more than a connection problem + your a old fart like me & reactions are slower than these teens that majority players , old farts= sniper kits, lay down & pick off peep. you cannot out draw a 15yr old.

What's the best kit to go with for a lesser experienced player ?

A) Ping.

B) Full auto fire is bad, use 1-2 shots and get a feel for how the gun returns to 90-100% accuracy (takes a second or so between bursts).

C) There's no way to fix the "Empty a clip but die to 1 shot" except... killing them first.

Anyway, use the G36E (Medic, 2nd unlock) or RPK-74 (MEC support gun). Both are superb and will hit what you aim at.

playing relatively smart makes the total difference.

Simply, if you fighting from two sides you will die quick than fighting one front... So do not run into an area that is too far into enermy or you will be attack from multiple angles.

Always go prone when shooting.
Single shot for longer ranges.
Never be afraid to run if you think you'll die.


Also staying with a group tends to make sure you dont go too far into enermy lines to get slaughtered.


This is very simple stuff that will not always apply the better you get in the game, but for now it will stop you dieing so much.

press the number as the key you set the gun on.
If you have main gun/rifle set as key number 3... press 3 once it already out, your gun will click the gun. There is a small '1' or 'A' at the bottom right of the screen under the amount of ammo left in your clip. 1 means single shot A means full auto (constant fire).

Only certain guns can be put single shot, some have full auto or 3 shot burst it depends on the gun.

yeah the number at top of your keyboard, not the number pad on the right. usually #3 is default.

i think there is a couple old fart clans, & i think one =dam= clan i donno jsut seen it "dads & moms clan" i thought of checkn into

i like the youtube help alot, you can search out battlefield 2 sniper & find vidoes on those, but being over 35 reactions slow down & over 40 way down , try not being point man & try a support or sniper i think might help.

I am in this same boat! I am far from a newb with about 150 total hours played and 14,000 points. I get sick of coming up behind someone, shooting and HITTING then with a whole clip only to have them turn around and drop me with one shot. There must be more to this. I have tried headshots, I usually shoot prone with bursts, I have tried all the guns including unlocks. How do I drop guys with one shot like they do to me? Practice yes but practice what??? What is the secret to the one shot kill?

no secret, you might have lagg or a high ping , allways check your ping, if its high leave, find a lower ping sever im tellin ya it helps so much its unreal. i mean think of it, if your computer takes 5mins to tell serveer that you shot a bullet, and reverse it takes joe smo's computer 1 minute to tell server then the server is where the kill truly happens.
im old fart, between ping & slow reactions i get owned alot too, i have trouble holding a 1to 1 KD ratio , but i also only play on vehicle mapps so lotsa raping goin on.

use short burst, use the G3 if it dont bring em down then u ether high ping, or outgunn'd & no secret to headshot, hit them in head they die one bullet:salute:

The difference is they are moving, when your prone there's not hitbox that could be somewhere else, they spin around and hit you np. Always shoot from a crouch position from behind someone, that way the second the spin around move and shoot, let them go prone then finish them off :)
