Re: Why is Engineer class so under-valued?

I think the topic title is misleading. The Engineer class is not under valued, its point system for point whores is under rated as mentioned by the many posts above.

The Engineer is still my #1 played kit. Besides the obvious of repairing tanks on the front lines, it is by far the best defensive kit in the game for flags that are vehicle accessible. And with the shotgun in hand, it is lethal in its flag defense against infantry; especially when they have to dismount to get to the flags that have been choked off from vehicles.

It brings me great enjoyment knowing that I can choke the obvious choke points from enemy vehicles and or create my own choke points by strategically placing my mines. While choked up, the AT kits in my squads rack up the points in nice squad play while on the defensive.

I have nothing wrong with not collecting a million repair points by now. It gives me more pleasure knowing that I have extended a tank drivers playing time so that our team can win the round by keeping him repaired. I have nothing wrong with not collecting a million repair points for hauling my tired arse all the way back to the main inorder to repair the commander assets when requested, cause without them we have lost our arty punch and eyes in the sky and more than likely the round.

The Egineer class is not under valued due to its lack of getting points, it is under valued because no one thinks to thank the engineer who has been successfully defending the key flags nearly single handily while the rest of the team has raced off to the next flag in their forever flag leap frogging race to see who can cap the most flags.

      1) More points for repairing
      2) More rockets for AT
      3) More smoke nades for assault

Engineer points are pathetic.... EA let Dice rush the game and as im thinking they should of spent a little more time on engineer.

        1. threats like at mines claymores and c4 should give you points when you remove them, +2 teampoints... as that is a team job..
        2. repairing anything from over half damage should give you +2 team points and +1 combat point.
        3. repairing anything from under half damage should give you +1 team point and +1 combat point.
        3. repairing the Commanders assets and bridges should give you +4 teampoints for assets and +2 for combat for bridges.

i like the engineer as it's a True team player kit, but Dice made him pathetic

I value it a lot, that's why most of my hours are playing engy.

I am not going to go through everyone's stats, because it seems logical for a thread that has Engineer in its topic will draw a lot of people saying "my fav kit is engi!" But it leaves me wondering how much coorlation there is between vehicle time and shotgun time. Do many of you people really run around the map as engineer on foot? I know I see them now and again in a round...esp on Iron Gator...but still?

Totally wrong. You need to learn where to place the mines. Think about it, the maps with tanks, most of the flags have 1 or maybe 2 roads from where you can get to the flag. Place 2 mines on each and collect the points. I get lot of kills as engy and most of them are from from AT mines. I still love my jackhammer and mp7.

Very true indeed. I suspect that most, like myself, spend most Engineer time in vehicles, and thus have little shotgun, submachine gun & AT Mine time/kills.

I love playing the engineer kit, hate AT though. This will defiantly sound weird but being engineer on Gulf of Oman is the best!! You get bombed by a jet, get out and repair the vehicle. Spec Ops is the primary kit in Oman (from what I have seen in my 150 hours on it). They are always driving jeeps, APC's and tanks are too slow for them. They always hit the AT mines, and when you do encounter them it is almost always within shotgun range. Sounds weird but give it a try sometime.

anyone who undervalues engineer is an idiot, ALL engi stock and unlock weapons rock in cqc, the ability 2 fix a vehicle is insaley useful and despite the lack of the use of the mines, they are so valuable in stoping apc whores from rushing your last flag and off loading a squad.

I too agree with these two above statements but consider myself to be different from the norm.

I offer my stats(LINK) for viewing as evidence.

From there you will see that I have:
                              179:13:53 hours with the Shotgun
                              127:30:16 hours within Armour
my next most played vehicle is the Transport with 126:09:35 hours.

I am also certainly not always an engineer when driving armour. As an added note, I also don't use the DAO as AT as I prefer the Tier 1 weapon so the shotgun hours are 99% pure engineering.

To go slightly off topic, the stats as we get them are flawed and shouldn't have been done they way they are. This leads us to the wonderings as mentioned in the above quotes. No kit should accumulate points or stats except for doing exactly what that kit is suppose to be doing. What I mean is, I shouldn't be getting Engineer kill stats when I am driving a tank, they should strickly be armour kills. A sniper shouldn't be given kill points when they are flying a jet. They are a pilot not a sniper.

This is why the badges/medals truely mean nothing. How many people actually achieved their badges by doing what that kit was intended to do?

More often than not, we all got them by scoring large in our armour, jets or some other aid, rather than actually using our handheld weapons.

I aplolgize for the going off of topic - just felt I had to add it is all

I love playing engineer. It's a HUGE asset to the team, what with being able to repair vehicles and infrastructure. Mines can be highly effective as well--it's not too hard to sneak up on enemy armor capping a flag and drop a mine or two in its path. The downside is all the TKs--and punishments--I've racked up due to dufus friendlies driving over my mines and then punishing me for it. (Hint: Friendly mines are clearly marked.)
