Are you up for a challange? You and buddy with joysticks and my freind and me with K/B?

You need to explain 'why i need to grow a brain' to fly a chopper with k/b and mouse!

i never said i was any better than anybody, i happen to suck in helicopters so you can stop shoving words in my mouth.

I do not want this to become an argument over whats better just like the other 1900 threads. I take back everything i say, mouses are better, your 1337, i suck.

Never used a joystick myself, I'm good enough with a kb & mouse.

Well, I'm not sure what all the arguing is about but hey, kids will be kids I guess. Just to put in my two cents worth, after playing years with a joystick, and only days with a mouse/keyboard, mouse/keyboard is a little easier as far as being able to control the heli. With joystick, I could very seldom land on the exact dot that I wanted to. Mouse/keyboard, I can do this 9 out of 10 times. Or I could hardly hover just over the flag. I would always turn my joystick just a little and I would start to slide away from cap. Keyboard/mouse, I can sit right on top of the flag. After going to youtube and searching for battlefield 2 helicopter tutorials, I'm starting to get the hang of the strafe in the helicopter. All though my diameter is big enough that it circles around the entire carrier, its still a start and will only get smaller the more experience I get, i'm sure. Only reason I wanted to switch it up from joystick to mouse/keyboard is cause I see all these people with 30, 40 thousand kills in a heli and i'm like, know fukin way can I do that with my joystick.

So now, one more question. how do I change my heli keys back to mouse axis, without reseting all the default keys? I tried just moving the mouse when the key was selected but to no availe. Anyone know?

And Skaggy, thanks for the link. You seemed to have been the only helpful one that replied. Everyone else decided to turn this thread into an "I'm better with my mouse/keyboard then you are with your joystick" flame session.

Heres an idea. If some of you have not got anything that is helpful to the question, or purtains to the specific thread, dont reply. I, and i'm sure along with everybody else, do not care who thinks they are better then who, and with what method they used. Everyone is best in their own way. No one certain person can GUARANTEE that they are better because of a certain method. Everyone is entitled to their own methods.

I say it. When it comes to choppers, KB+mouse owns Joystick BIG TIME.

Nobody's saying you can't become a well-rounded pilot using a joystick, but there are techniques you won't be able to do well (or at all). You'll find that the vast majority of well-known, talented pilots use KB+M.

There's a good reason for that. :)

Nobody's saying you can't become a well-rounded pilot using a joystick, but there are techniques you won't be able to do well (or at all). You'll find that the vast majority of well-known, talented pilots use KB+M.

I play with 2000DPi setting on my mouse with a Helo, that far excels any sensitivity upping the game or using a joystick will allow.

Why exclude everything but soloing as a reason to support joystick for flight control? Why include only soloing as a reason to support keyboard and mouse for flight control?

The simple fact is, a mouse offers more control and maneuverability options than a joystick. I really don't feel like elaborating on that, so unless someone else comes along and expounds on it for your benefit, you'll just have to experiment and find out yourself... or take our (experienced) word for it.

I have flown with mouse, and i don't see how it offers more control.

I admit my argument loses, most of you seem to know for a matter of fact that keyboard flying is better than joystick. I just don't see how, but if the majority think so than i must be wrong.

Majority opinion has nothing to do with the validity of any given argument in a reasonable society.

However, our significant experience and experimentation with both control options have lead us to the conclusion that a mouse offers more to the seasoned veteran than a joystick.

The joystick is to the helicopter what the mouse is to the jet: while it can be used, it isn't the optimal solution.

Significant experience with all control forms says this- to each his own. Its really that simple. If youre good enough, you will not even lose time by soloing.

The main difference between the two is not maneuverability options but maneuverability STYLE. Joystick is "Logical and smooth", mouse is "illogical and jerky". Note that its not saying which one offers more control or whatnot.

Personally I fly with a stick because I like it. I used to fly with a mouse and didnt.

There might be a difference in RESPONSE TIME of the controls, which is natural, and which is why joystick is "smooth" and mouse is "jerky", but as Ive said many times in the similar threads regarding jets- DXTweak2 is an answer.

Note that I didnt develop my chopper skills to be on the top bench, but Ive got about 300 hours in the vehicle as a total.

QFT! Seriously, KBM is better due to the fact that with the joystick, you control a stick with two axes, and keeping an exact position with it is a pain. With the mouse you just keep your mouse on one spot.

Just open your controls.con and replace what you have in the
ControlMap.create HelicopterPlayerInputControlMap with the above.
