Re: EA flamers, STFU!
When I was in the US Air Force, and working on an air craft waiting to take off, one of the things that bothered me the most was a pilot asking me "How much longer is this going to take". Im sure it bothers the people working on the stats server issue also. In my case I even developed a standard answer that got the pilot off my back "another 10 or 15 minutes, ok". After two or three times giving that same answer they would get the message and wait, knowing I would get it done ASAP.
I would guess the people working on this feel the same. If you have an Idea thats great but a complaint is real useless at this point. Speaking of Ideas, I dont mean to keep bothering you guys but Microsoft has issued several security updates lately that are designed to prevent people from gaining access to a server and inserting code to allow the outside user to have unlimited access and the ability to redirect in going and or out going info. This is supposed to be something new, the hack, similar to what the US-CERT thing was. According to what Ive read the software to do this is available on the internet so just about anyone could do this, as it might not require much skill.
I realize there are a lot of if and mights in what I posted but to me it makes a lot of sense that the stats servers are waiting on the stats to arrive, nothing wrong with that. Also the servers that we play on are probably sending the stats, nothing wrong with that. The stats however are being intercepted or something and are never making it to the stats server to be recorded. Although this sounds like a simple thing to find I believe its really not that simple. I worked on a similar problem in the plant I work at and that is why I thought of this. What we found, we found it by checking the lan cable for distance, was someone had connected another computer between the lan hub and the computer controlling the equipment (a press). The newly connected computer worked great but there was no through put to the equipment. Internet access was great but the controll program (it timed out) appeared to have lost communication.
Sorry to be so long winded but I had to get it off my mind. I often spend a lot of time off in left field and may be doing it again. Anyway thanks for the updates. . . . . . . . .Red
*aftr reading this post I have realized how useless it probably is but decided to leave it here. . . . .Because that maybe just maybe. . . .Comment

Re: EA flamers, STFU!
Its not useless redrider. The thing is, people wouldnt even be b!tching if DICEA came out straight and said that the problem is serious, whos working on it and how far is the progress.
After patch 1.3, when someone from DICE says "were working on the problem", I personally nod and say "yeah, whatever".Comment

Re: EA flamers, STFU!
From what I read, it boils down to either team-oriented yet unrecognized gameplay or individual-oriented yet recognized gameplay. To me, both are a source of enjoyment which is the purpose, or at least one of the purposes, of playing games at all. I know how much pleasure team-oriented play can offer after playing Battlefield 1942, Vietnam, and participating in 21st Century Warfare/Total-War. At the same time, I get the same pleasure and fun from playing a game where my achievements are accounted for and sometimes rewarded in-game. This sounds selfish and evokes the sense that I'm a no-life who cares nothing but stats, but that isn't the case. There's something about recognition that makes this game enjoyable, even if it's personal, fictional, causing selfish actions (I'll agree with you on that one), and no doubt to be gone in the next few years or closer when EA/DICE decides to pull the plug. I guess you could call it "investing" your time in a game that will reward you with something.
Recalling back my first 100 hours of Battlefield 2 and comparing to my first 100 hours in BF1942 and BF:Vietnam, my experience in BF2 seems surreal since I knew every goal or accomplishments I achieved would be added up to something greater (even if it was virtual and artificial). Even the smallest achievements like flag captures, I would be more gratified from that in BF2 than the previous two Battlefields knowing it would be recognized and bring me closer to that next promotion :)
Now, for the past six months, I've been getting the best of these two now that I'm in a friendly clan and a server admin of a ranked server.
All in all, both methods provide me the same enjoyment and fun which is the reason I play games in the first place.
This is only part 1 of 2 of my response to you Chris, I'll type the other one about people caring stats and how they show them (stat padding/selfish actions or bragging) later since it's 5:35 A.M. and I had no sleep at all due to a friend z_zComment
