    Re: EA flamers, STFU!

Having played this game for 2 years, theres two ways to not to get dragged into being a statwhore- either play unranked, or play with a clan.

    Congrats.

But I disagree on the squad-up rule, as I havent seen it create any results. Statless game with motivation to win = greatest gaming experience

I am sorry to side with EA, but have you ever stopped and thought, actually maybe this is a pretty serious problem with no obvious solutions? Therefore it needs some extreme looking into before it is fixed. Maybe this might prevent that stats system from going down again in the future?
I know you will say "but they are a huge company with thousands of employees and making £millions revenue", but i am afraid to say, you cannot make a problem go away by throwing money at it (Like having a greedy ex-wife).

Maybe you should just stop and think: EA is a profit making company (they are not here to do everything at our beck and call), they probably are trying as hard as possible to look into the stats issue (and it sounds like a serious problem) and lastly they are not some kind of super humans that can do things in an instance. Im sure quite a lot of the employees are not gamers, and when a stats system goes down over the weekend, they are not going to rush into work and spend hours trying to work out how to fix it (Put yourself in their shoes. Could you be f*cked to spend you weekend fixing a stats system? Thought not.)

I also hear a lot of people complaining about how crap the customer service is. I have had to email them twice about problems with installations and EA Link and have had no problems. Sure, they took a few days to reply, but this is the same for any large corporation. However, each reply I got was custom written (IE, not a standard covering letter), and the guy actually referred to my problem and not one given in their list of FAQ’s. He listened to the possible solutions that I thought might work and helped me along the way with them, each time ending in success.

Well, Im glad that’s off my t1ts now. I have been building it up for quite some time. Expect more people… expect more.

      amen brother!!

Have you ever been a regular on an unranked BF2 , frequented it more than you have a ranked server? If not, I feel genuinely sorry for you. Stats are the sole reason why people are being genuine as*holes towards each other. Stats mean selfishness, stats mean "me me me" play. Stats also mean stupid e-penis wars. Its so pathetically sick to watch kids brag about their medals/ribbons/whatnot over the server. Stats make mods limp. If you dropped stats right now, more than 50% of the players would flee, but the experience on the servers would be better, and thats a quarantee.

You will not appreciate the damage the stats do to the game on a daily basis, until youve played statless game and seen how far will players go to help the team win the game, and how much simple humanity in game can make you smile and enjoy the fragging even more.
My experience in BF1942 and Vietnam and many of its mods, despite not having stats, is quite opposite: people were still being *** and selfish to each other. I don't believe it's stats themselves that create asses, instead, it simply "filtered" and "attracted" asses. To be more precise, many of the idiots were and are attracted to the stats system and so play in ranked servers while feeling alienated toward normal servers. If the stat system goes down, then these idiots, if they still want to play BF2, will browse the rest of the servers that were originally unranked. I don't believe in the hypothesis that stats turn players into imbeciles because other games that have no stat systems also have their share of imbeciles. The only difference with stats, as I said before, is that it attracts these imbeciles to certain servers and provides them even more motivation and incentives to commit unsportsmanlike actions.

As for kids bragging, isn't that the point of stats? To have a sense of accomplishment and enjoy from it? Isn't that the reason why players capture flag, kill enemies, and try to win the round? I think this applies to other games as well, trying to feel accomplished and enjoy from it. From this, I don't see it as being pathetic, but enjoying and taking pleasure from playing a game, the reason (at least for me) why we play games to begin with.

Man back in 1942 i remember going into servers and playing straight for 4 hours and never having to be hostile to anyone at all, players would always give you lifts players would always apologize if tked you players would always help you and so on...

If i go in a bf2 server i will only ever be able to go for a good 30 mins without someone pointlessly tking me or w/e, its bs the stat system just brings a whole side of arrogant selfishness.

I wish EA/DICE would just stop dragging this dead horse's corpse along the ground(bf2) while all the fans get stuck under it then throw rocks at it ( flamers) just sort the ****ing game out, if you cant fair enough, but tell the community not to hold our breath for a fix.

hes right though. the amount of emails for support EA must receive, its not like every employee of EA works on customer support to reply to them.
and maybe the stats being down is a serious system error, and can't be turned back on by flipping a switch

My experience doesnt span through all the BF games, however it spans through

                    BF2 Demo unranked
                    BF2 Demo ranked (ABR)

                    BF2 ranked
                    BF2 unranked
                    BF2 unranked ABR ranked

Heres the difference, in the well established servers where you see mostly the same familiar faces, you will see the difference between ranked and unranked play. Granted, there are assholes everywhere, no matter what circumstances, and for instance teamkilling for certain assets takes place everywhere. But the whole squadding up, teamwork element and my most favourite- selfless gameplay (how about suiciding intentionally just for a specific task on a moments notice?), you will see a lot more in unranked server where theres nothing more at stake than victory or bragging rights. People will not hold themselves back just because it will harm their specific stats like Ive seen on ranked (not a rule, but not an exception either). You will not see people use "speshul" tactics in unranked server to increase their score, but genuine and true outplaying the opponent using every means necessary.

The whole concept of stat padding (players lost because they do nothing on both teams) and glitching (very rare on unranked) is something you will raise your eyebrow at.

I don't believe it's stats themselves that create asses, instead, it simply "filtered" and "attracted" asses.
I can tell you with a 100% cetrainty that stats indeed "create" assholes. Or bring out the assholes in people who would have the tendency to become one. I noticed changes in my philosophy of gaming when I started playing on servers where stats were being recorded. Theres definitely something I liked- my constant improvement that was fueled by keeping a specific goal in mind (KDR mostly), but I didnt like the fact that I had less fun in general and I often didnt play for the teams victory but my own personal goals. Thanks to a certain bunch of fine gentlemen I met this cycle broke.

I don't believe in the hypothesis that stats turn players into imbeciles because other games that have no stat systems also have their share of imbeciles.
Bingo, there are assholes everywhere. Take CS for example.

But BF2 is a totally different game. Ive been a hardcore player of BF2 and SWAT4, and for example in SWAT4 you will see selfish play very rarely and it will not depend on ranking system, but on the level of establishment of the particular server. In BF2 its much the same. In CS 1.6, the cracked (pirated) Russian servers in the country I live in (used to play those) had such a minimal level of assholes that it was amazing. No stats whatsoever either.

The only difference with stats, as I said before, is that it attracts these imbeciles to certain servers and provides them even more motivation and incentives to commit unsportsmanlike actions.
Assholes and selfish gameplay have their differences, totally different topics. There are assholes in each game, but it is my claim that stats create selfish gameplay.

As for kids bragging, isn't that the point of stats? To have a sense of accomplishment and enjoy from it? Isn't that the reason why players capture flag, kill enemies, and try to win the round?
"I have a veteran knife badge LOL, took me just a few weeks!"
"LOL you noob, I got it in 3 days"

Proceed comparing stats to measure the e-penis.

What kind of accomplishment is that? You dont need a sense of PERSONAL accomplishment, its a wrong kind of a motivation. You need to promote a sense of accomplishment across the whole team.

Good arguments, you bring in, padawan. :)

Being in a clan i find there is plenty of teamwork that goes on, and in our server, one of the rules is that everyone has to be a member of a squad which encourages teamplay. Anyone who plays with a "me, me, me" attitude gets kicked.

Look, I too have issues with some of the things EA has done in this game. What bugs me alot more than that is the kids who always complain and complain about EA this and EA that. I agree with the orignal post, accept BF2 as it is or move on to something else.

That is part of why I briefly tried to explain, in another post, that the people who try and repair things are the unsung heros. I should know I do repair in an industrial setting. All I ever get asked is "Is it working now, why not and how long". When Im finished I dont get a Thanks, I get a new work order and the process starts all over again. I would guess that its about the same for the people working on this problem. Give 'em a break.

Just a side note, If you dont like EA that much go buy another companys game and play it. What did the orignal post say. . . . . . . . . . . . .Red

*oh and I have been in the game and here since July 2005

Both words there are key. As you've no doubt noticed there's been no major news on the situation this weekend guys, I wish there had been just as much as you guys do but there you have it. I should add that it's no fault of the server guys who have continued to pursue the trouble shooting options open to us here.

I'll be doing all sorts of chasing once I'm back in the office on Monday and, as I've mentioned before, we'll be roping in some different expertise and approaches on this too since it doesn't look to be an issue with the stats server itself as initially thought.

Again, I sincerely appologise for the frustration and inconvenience here, I know you guys want your stats and we're doing what we can to get them running as normal again.

So you're saying a company that's making 2.951 billion dollars isn't going to spend time fixing up problems for a large supporting community? Don't tell me that's how businesses work, because that's plain stupid. They would get much more support from the community, and more sales in other games, if they spent time to fix up the one they crapped on. What put me off from buying 2142 and any future EA PC games was BF2. They ****ed up a good game so much since the beginning.

Look at Valve. CSS and HL2 were released 3 years ago, yet Valve have still been maintaining constant free updates to better the game play and customer experience. They've released lost coast for free, they took the time to make a great deal of gameplay changes for CSS with new radar and gameplay features. The community whined for a good 2 weeks about the CSS changes, but eventually realized this change was for the best. Valve didn't need to let the rampant whining 12 year olds from the gaming community influence their decisions, while EA has ****ed up a great game doing the opposite.

                                That's my slightly sensical rant.
