Why would they give us any news or an update on how things stand? I mean we're only the consumers for Pete's (who's Pete?) sake.

The way they treat their users and fanbase is nothing short of appalling. Almost on a par with M$ but that's another story altogether.

I find it heartening to see members of the Dice team posting though. At least we can say they aren't all ignorant turds. A small update with a brief piece of news in regards to where they are up to with fixing the problem would suffice.

I suppose that's too much to ask for seeing as we've been asking for BF2 to be fixed all these months (2 year birthday yesterday)

Re: EA responds to stats issue

I've been out of the loop for the past couple of weeks building and torture-testing my new system, and then I come back and see all the forums (here and every where) filled with "EA Stat Server Problem" threads. So is this a serious thing and not just the normal laggy weekend stat update chatter?

Let me guess, though. The BF2142 stats are updating fine, right? Yeah. I thought so.

From what I have read, this is just a one-way communication problem, right? By that I mean when I reinstall BF2, I'm not going to be playing as a private with no unlocks competing with 63 other people for the commander position, am I?

Re: EA responds to stats issue

It's really kinda of absurd that it has been over a week, and this issue with the stats system has not yet been solved.

            How hard can it be?

Stats are registered in a central database. That database pulls info from all the distributed databases around the world(the ranked servers) to populate itself. This is a real-time process that is done by software developed specific to accomplish this task. It's not a new thing, and it's well established techonology, so it's hard to understand why it's taking this long for this issue to be resolved.

Perhaps something else is going on?

Are you telling us that you have concrete and credible knowledge of this system and its details and able to determine the difficulty of the problem despite the fact that we hardly know what the problem and its nature is to begin with?

I do not have any in-depth knowledge of what kind of system EA is using, but I do have some knowledge of how database systems, in general, are supposed to work.

There are software programs that are used specifically to pull data from one system to populate another system. If the stats system is not updating, it's most likely because there's a problem with the software that pulls that information from all the ranked servers.

If EA, or whomever is running this system, developed the software themselves, then perhaps there's a good reason for the delay, however, I highly doubt they would go to the trouble of developing something themselves. Chances are, they are using some d/b system from an established vendor. If that's the case, I find hard to understand how can they justify this week long delay in solving this problem.

To be clear here, you're deifnitely not "only the consumers". You're gamers, like me, and like many of the guys busy working on this. As such, beyond the usual business reasons, we totally appreciate the frustration of missing a key part of the game and want to have this problem fixed as soon as we can.

The GameSpy/IGN guys are looking hard at this every way they can to try and spot what's causing such a major issue, the moment I hear anything further I'll update you guys as well as the various other Battlefield communities out there.

No problem. Do also use this thread to suggest any trends or details you've seen, or noticed shortly before the outage kicked in, that might help point to a solution here. At this stage, information that leads to a fix could come from anywhere.

Check for routing through SAVVIS Servers, The day before this happened they fixed a problem that was blocking southern USA players from connecting to our servers (RIP Clan) all of them and only ours, they were able to play all others, by running tracerts we found SAVVIS to be the problem then as they (Our members) were able to reconnect on the same day stats stopped. The ISP was Comcast for all affected members and all tracerts went through SAVVIS servers. Either someone there is against RIP or they sabotaged the BF2 system. I don't believe in coincidences this close apart. Thanks for your efforts Sentience.

Re: EA responds to stats issue

In my opinion, it' s highly unlikely that it is an harware problem. Stats for BF2412 are working, and people are connecting to ranked servers all over the world, and also to EA's central d/b when they login to the game, therefore the pipeline seems to be working. The problem is most likely to be sofware related.

You need to check the software that "pulls" the information from the ranked servers. Did anyone change any settings in it? Has the database of ranked servers ip addresses, or whatever you use to identify them, been corrupted? Has any software settings been changed in the the servers running your d/b? Perhaps the security settings have been increased in those servers and they are not allowing your servers to communicate with outside servers. Are there any patches, fixes, updates, new software, that have been applied to the server(s) running your d/b, that have now made it incompatible with ranked servers?

IS this a fakin joke ?
or did i missunderstand this ???

This is from a EA emploee or something:

As the one person EA has assigned to the stats problem, all I can ask is that you be patient. I'm still working on trying to figure out what is in fact going on. I am also assigned to multiple projects. I get only an hour or so a day for this specific issue.

Please refer to your EULA; we are not required to have this problem fixed for you. If it does in fact eventually get fixed, it should be taken as a blessing.
