    The God Damn Grid

Lately I have been increasingly aggravated by the 'grid effect' when sniping. If an enemy only shows small portion of themselves over a hill or around a corner ect, it sometimes becomes impossible to hit them because you simply cannot put the crosshair on them.

Does anyone have any development/programming knowledge, and know why and how of this method? I cant think of another FPS where its so blatantly annoying.

I'm not very clear on what your talking about... are you saying that you cannot get your crosshair on them because your cursor feels like its snapping past them or something ?

I don't know if this is what you are talking about but:

Sometimes distant terrain is not displayed properly e.g if you drive around in a buggy and look at the terrain, sometimes it remodels as you approach - like small hills growing up. Anyway, sometimes i have clearly seen players prone on a ridge line and cant hit them. On approach the terrain remodels slightly and they are in fact behind cover, hence no hit detection. I think it is the way BF2 models the terrain to reduce system stress (by simplifying/reducing poly count on distant terrain)

Yes thats it. When sniper and looking through the scope, move the crosshair very slowly. You'll see that it isnt smooth, but moves in distinct and discrete fractions. Many times, say when sniping from Arty island to the shore on Wake, if you aim for a head shot, you simply cant aim at the head, because one 'grid' to the left is not on him nor is one 'grid' to the right.

I hear ya. I hate it.

My buddy always tells me to put the sensitivity down real low when you're sniping. I tried it and it worked ok. Takes a while to get used to though.

Never keep up much with changing the sensitivity to a lower setting when I snipe nowadays. I suck anyway. Lol.

Yup. That's probably it. It looks like a clear shot, but if you advance on that enemy you will see something pop up in the way... a small hill, sandbags, trees (shrubbery), etc.

Or you could be laggin like a mo-fo. That would be bad though.

Actually, that has nothing to do with it. Bronx even replied, quoting doc as being correct. It is not that he doesn't hit when he fires, but rather he can not even put his cursor on the enemy.

He is saying that your crosshair is basically on a grid and can only move to points on that grid. Making it impossible to aim on the lines in btw the grid spaces; therefore, ones crosshair will appear to skip the space where the enemy is exsposed.

I don't believe I have ever had this problem, or heard of it for that matter. Seems like, you should be able to aim anywhere without jumps.

I've never had that problem where there is a "grid", my crosshair goes where I point it. Are you sure it does that? And it's not just the fact you got a cheap mouse or mouse pad??

Check it out, go sniper, zoom in and move it slowly, you will see it. Its very apparent when aiming at th enemy from distance. The only thing I can think of that may cause this is resolution, however I dont know of any other game that does this.

Yea, i get that. Even with my MX518 and Steelpad, i get the grid. It sucks, especially when your trying to snipe someone at the chinese arty from southbase. You can either shoot left of their head or right of it!

i think its a product of the resolution you run too, not only the mouse. id bet hes running a lower resolution.

Yeah I get this aswell, really annoying when sniping from distance. Try to make the slightest of adjustments and then it just 'clicks'. Can't think of any other FPS where this happens.

Why the heck does it happen to everyone but me???

I do plenty of long range shots without problems.

Maybe it's cause me resolution is realy hiigh and my mouse/ mouse pad is realy good?

                            Try putting resolution higher.
