You've used that argument before, and I've already responded to it. It doesn't mean that snipers are on the front line in close combat.

If he was, he wouldn't be called a sniper anymore, as in the widely known definition, The traditional definition of a sniper is an infantry soldier especially skilled in field craft and marksmanship who kills selected enemies from concealment with a rifle at large distances. Typically and ideally, a proficient sniper approaches an unaware enemy presence, uses a single bullet per target, and withdraws without being seen. The word originates from the snipe, a game bird difficult for hunters to sneak up on.

On a related note, medics are not found on the front lines either. Not because they're not able to perform assault functions, but because that is not their role. After all, if they're on the frontline and get wounded and killed, who's gonna do the healing to everyone else? Oh wait, says DICE, I'll just add medpack ability to the engineer class.... oh look! It's BF 2142! Let's noobify the game! YAY!

Next we're going to see the Undead Rogue in World of Warcraft possess a party heal... Prayer of Meditation (allows health regeneration over 15 seconds, 10% dedicated to party members) Noob!

You clearly don't play support enough, otherwise you'd know.

Personally I prefer the Type-95. It's like a 100-round automatic assault rifle. Which is kinda funny to say because: that's exactly what it is.

a sniper that moves with the squad is a designated marksman(normally with a scoped semi-auto)
the other type of sniper sets up a hide and waits, gets a few kills, relocates and repeats.
a bf2 sniper on the other hand bounces around and likes to toss claymores and alot of hand grenades.

            NZ

ps-funny no one mentioned the M4 or SCAR, theyre basicly marksman rifles on single fire...tap tap tap..quiet an accurate

Battle for Berlin. Russian Squad Snipers. 1945.

Do your history homework. You could also rent the video documentary, "A World at War, Volume 6: End of World War II"

Squad Sniper's are still called snipers. They're also called Designated Marksmen.

The type of sniper that you've described is Jemme's favored, 'Scout Sniper.'

Blah, blah, blah. This doesn't relate to the topic, so I'm just going to ignore it.

Moreover you shouldnt take in everything the TV dishes out. I have one of the books on Hathcock here on my bookshelf. Notable differences are about the location of the incident (either Laos or Vietnam); the distance covered (1500 yards over open terrain for a 800 yards kill); he made the kill on the 4th day; he didnt run straight to the recovery point, but crawled via a gully to the jungle's edge; he hooked up with a platoon that brought him to an extraction zone.
in the documentary it said he was on a field with high grass.. and he walked alone to the extraction zone.... ow and i found it on Youtube

I'm probably what you can define as a sniper who runs while shooting. Only sometimes, not often, I lie down and wait for my enemy.

It really depends on the map, and the situation with flags on the map

On Karkand, playing as MEC, I tend to spawn at Suburb and snipe any little buggers that try and sneak their way round

Really? I don't think snipers and assault are similar, AT ALL.

As for the rest? Meh. All die before my might.

And both medals were acquired on the same server the two videos were filmed on.

                            ICONZ #3, karkand 24/7 IO.

No vehicles to gain gold medals in means that getting them at all implies I know what I'm talking about.

I'll let you evaluate what kind of sniper I am. I know locations to set up shop when the map starts and I move quickly to them. In my mind, I have the battlefield broken up into several areas. As the core of the fighting moves from area to area, I move to spots I've located within these hotspots. When I stop seeing people dying in my scope (friend and foe) then I evaluate where I need to be. If the battle moves too quick, then I adjust as best as possible. So... the only time you see me upright is when I'm moving quickly from one spider hole to another.
