All DICE needs to do to keep the pilots happy.

    *Equal missile hit capabilities
    *Smaller lock cone
    *Longer lock time

      Re: Dodging missiles

It's possible to dodge missiles 90%+ of the time in all aircraft with the exception of the F35 (can only dodge at very high alts, hard to do consistantly), you just have to know how. The maneuvers just involve manipulating the hitbox advantages of the particular aircraft you are in.

          Re: Dodging missiles

This really isnt rocket science staying alive in an F35. If you fly over 350 to 400 feet. when he starts to lock on to you, break in an upward motion, get to 850 and punch the after burner, youll take off like a rocket, try to point yourself so you go across the map so you dont go too far out of bounds. once you get to 700 and start after burnering, you dont even have to look back, youll dump the missles every time. It does take some practice but you can do it consistantly every time. I use my flares to buy me some time if need be, but if you drop flares at 850 witha missle in pursuit youalways lose them.

I usually look behind me alot, so if I get in a turning battle with a j10 I'll start gaining altitude so even if he does start to get a lock it's above 500 feet. at which point I usually dont even have to use flares I just pull up and away, cruise at 850 with after burner, and then reengage the enemy, lather rinse repeat till you get a hit. You have to use hit and run tactics with the F35, and the Nose cannon. On another note your ping affects how well your missles track the enemy jets, and also how long you have to shoot your nose cannon to kill anything. I try to play in servers where I have below a 65 ping, seems to be the magic number for me, also you turn a little sharper the lower your ping is... hope that helps.

Honestly, I really don't have any special tactic. I'm usually very focused and very aware of my suroundings and the situation on the battlefield. Only tips I could give are as follows:

            1. Check your six allot!!
            2. Vary your angle of attack.
            3. Look at the mini map frequently.
            4. Be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the particular plane you are using. It'll come as second nature with time.
            5. Make your own squad and talk over voip with the commander and any other squad members that need assistance.
            6. Obviously, be a medic.
            7. Defend flags!!
            8. Don't be a pr**k and spawn camp uncaps (most people hate it) unless they are shooting out of it or they have spawned killed you.
            9. Last but not least, make sure to thank (hey thanks!) the nubcake who forced a tk b/c you got the jet 1st.

those are good tips, thanks. i think im getting the hang of it, i used to be all about bombing (and missing) now i cruise at 300 looking for enemy aircraft first, and take em out before looking for ground targets. I seem to stay alive more frequently now.. im getting better by the minute. Thanks for everyones tips, they are great too.

What's helped me the most is developing more comfort in flying in the rear camera view. Now I constantly check my six and when I hear a tone I go to the rear camera view (if I'm not already there) and hold my break and flares until the attacker has fired missles.

Comfort using the rear riew also helps considerably in developing bombing accuracy.

yea im pretty good in rear view, aint a problem controlling my plane. to be more specific, what would you do after a missile is fired at you? (and locked on) what maneuvers are most likely to dodge em?

I break in a direction that will take me out of their field of view the quickest and away from my flares. I'll typically reverse that, which amounts to a double Immelmann. Depending upon how close they are to me and what I'm in I may also reduce power.

                            Re: Dodging missiles

while looking behind you, you want to break one way, then when you see him commit to your turn the other direction, usually by the third time hes far enough behind your turning regiment all you have to do is turn one more time and carry through with that turn and hes off you, the trick is to be able to fly in rear view and check your six alot so you catch him trying to sneak up on you, he can easily counter any reactionary countermeasures by just gunning you down, first pilot to make the other one smoke usually wins, reason being you know he wants to fix his precious jet and all it usually takes is one more missle hit and he knows it.

Pay attention to what the opposition is doing if he is skilled, does he not repair after you hit him once? does he continue the engagement? does he bolt for the airfield and actually cut his throttle? does he just dump the jet and get another one? watch the enemy roster to see if he is dead timee to time, especially if you cant find him for a while, fly by his airstrip, is he sitting there waiting for a new jet? strafe him and let him know bailing wont help. does he break off when you take him up to the upper limit of altitude? find what makes the other guy lose composure, set the tone of the engagement, constantly enage him, dont let him engage you. Lets say you engage him six times with missles, first time all miss, second time one hits, third fourth and five all miss, now the six time you hit him, hes down. You have to compensate quantity for the lack of accuracy of the missles sometimes, especially if you have a ping over 65. now, lets say he doesnt look behind him but he sure as hell can outmaneuver missles, start in bombmode and hit him with guns, a very good time to do this I notice is when enemy pilots are engageing other targets, they tend to not check their six, another time is when they rearm or repair, but try to drop down on them so they dont see you in rear view.

THE F35, unique in every way. If you get locked up by ground aa drop flares imediatly and try to keep them between you and the ground aa, by this I mean if its right behind you lighting you up dont drop flares and pull straight up, he will be able to reaquire lock quickly and still fire, instead just drop flares and pitch your nose down slightly so the flares stay behind you directly a little longer. you can tell the difference between ground aa and jets just by the time it takes for the tone to lock. now for jets, if you dump altitude in the F35 just so your flares stay behind you longer, your just prolonging the inevitable. Instead, ideally you want to spot him trying to get on you, if so start buying time by turning yet climbing with your rudder or a quick loop, if he starts to get tone you should easily be over 400 feet, now dont drop flares as soon as he get lock, wait a second or two the missles take time to get to you, buying you more precious time, now when you get to around 600 feet straighten out and hit after burner, dont worry if you got lock now it wont matter so dont even look behind you might go too high and lose control. instead get to 850 feet and hold that height, hit your after burner and listen to the missle drop off you, if you can get to that 600 feet number and not have to drop flares all the better, but if you do drop flares at 850 the missle will drop off once again but the best part is you lose the other jet because he cant keep up with you. make sure to turn slightly while maintaining altitiude to lose him incase he just followed the same line of travel you just flew in. In the F-35 you MUST engage the other enemy jets, you are all offense and very little defense in the F35, same goes for the MIG but in my oppinion the F35 is much better since you have an evasion method the mig has difficulty countering. As for throttle cutting, even in the F-18 it might work once, but once you let that cat out of the bag I for one, will be waiting, actually hoping, for you to do it again and just gun you down. The throttle cut might work against lesser pilots but it's a bad crutch to get dependant on.

Those of you that flown against me and had me do this know what I'm talking about, this is by no means an easy technique but once you can do it consistantly you will find your time in the air much more enjoyable.

It's pretty cool to see in action, watching a Mig dodge missiles with ease similar to an F18 or EF. Quite a while back, I remember meeting a BF2C guy who isn't too bad at this, Argameno I believe. If you come across him, ask for a demonstration. It's interesting to try, I could never get it work consistently enough. Keep in mind this ability does not equate to good dog fighting skills e.g. you can dodge all the missiles you want, but this isn't going to save you from the guns

Well hello! This is Argameno indeed. I found this post by accident. Nice to know I'm at least a little bit popular  in places I don't even know about.

Well I just signed up so I could respond to this thread. If you want to know how to dodge missiles here it is in brief. Keep in mind all methods explained here are without the use flares.

                              1. Every Jet is different, and requires relative tactics. Some are just easier to evade with.
                              2. There is 3 different kinds of missiles: fighter, bomber, stringer. They vary in tracking ability. Stinger is strongest, fighter is weakest.
                              3. Altitude makes your jet lose responsiveness and increase speed. the higher you are the more likely the missile will hit you.
                              4. Bombers retain their maneuverability better than fighters at high altitude. So they can evade fighters.

J10: The most over-powered jet in the game. Better than all other jets in dogfighting. Nothing can really challenge it. fastest turn rate, slow response rate. Unprecise movements, bad for gunning and bombing. I never fly this, it is over advantaged and frankly a crappy jet. Newbies love it. Most of my discussions and comparisons of jets will exclude this jet because it is just out of the league.

F35: Very accurate movements, fastest response rate, slowest horizontal turn rate, excellent vertical loop turn rate, highest speed, highly maneuverable at high altitude, highly vulnerable to missiles, extremely difficult to fly without death. Only for experts.

I have seen people evade missiles with it using full rudder and full pitch back given some distance, however I can't do it. A very sudden and sharp move with the 35 right when the missile is about to hit you also sometimes does the trick, but again I can't seem to get it down. The F35 is simply missile vulnerable and you simply have to avoid getting locked on in the first place and also by running away from the enemy using speed. Climb to 800 and hit the After burner (AB). Your speed will reach 3000, you out run the missle and reach the other end of the map in mere seconds. F35 is not for newbies. Expect death if you are not an expert.

MIG: Outstanding turn rate with full rudder and pitch vertical and horizontal. Accurate movements, medium response rate, vulnerable to missiles. Powerful rudder.

Second most missile-vulnerable jet in the game, however it can become completely invincible if you learn how to evade missiles with it. It is an very difficult and tricky tactic and you have to be an expert to pull off. It involves full rudder with a 10% pull on pitch and a mild roll. you have to be looking in rear view to see the missile. And you have to adjust your jet to the path of the missile to make it miss. Another simple tactic is to simply let the missile get somewhat close and then do a full pitch back and suddenly let go of the joystick right exactly when the missile in about to hit you. The missile should suddenly fly away while you are moving perfectly straight. The MIG is a low altitude jet. Keep it low, below 400. Flying higher requires expert skills. The MIG can be the most powerful jet, outdoing the F18, if flown by an expert. But to become this effective you need to be an expert. I fly only the MIG and that's why. IMO it is the most maneuverable and skill-requiring jet to fly, which makes it a very fun jet. It has the perfect balance of vulnerability and skill requirement. I am an expert on the MIG and I basically evade missiles with little to no movement. I haven't seen anyone else do this, yet. It's kind of my trademark :).

F18: Easy to fly, accurate, precise, fast response rate, high turn rate, poor rudder compared the MIG.

Easiest way to evade missiles with it is to simply pitch forward and keep at it. Use rudder if you need but is not required. every missile fired at you by other jets will miss you guaranteed. Only bomber missiles and singers are a threat the the F18. A simple full pitch back also does the trick for the 18. Just don't roll too much. Loop is ok. IMO if you think you are a great pilot in the F18 then you aren't a good pilot at all because the F18 is the most missile-invulnerable jet after the J10. requires little skill to stay alive.

Eurofighter: Slowest speed, fastest response rate (to the point of losing control and becoming unprecise), hard to make little adjustments because of fast response, fastest pitch turn rate, slowest roll rate, invulnerable to missiles (the just don't hit it).

the chances of you getting hit with a missile in the EF is the same as the chances of you evading a missile without flares in the F35, so extremely low. No more comments on evasion, no effort required.

F14: Fly inverted, Pitch forward and use rudder. Another tactic, use rudder and pitch back and change direction just as the missile is about to hit you by switching to the other side rudder and perhaps using roll. Comes with practice.

SU34: Pitch forward, with a bit of rudder or roll where necessary, will do the trick. Also full back pitch, when the missile is near engage the rudder.

I hope this has been informative. I will create videos of my moves and perhaps post them sometime on youtube.
