    ent|ty, i agree with you.

One the other hand, I for one hate being spawn killed in an uncap and I never base rape unless it's done to me. If I get spawned killed by a plane on uncap, I make sure, that once I'm in the air, that that guy/gal will never get off the ground.

It's put a dent in teamwork, creating players that only care about one thing - getting more points.
If you didn't care about competing, and only cared about your own personal fun in the game, then you wouldn't care about teamwork. Unless of course you find it fun to compete as a team against another team.

Notice I used the word compete instead of the word play? Thats because it fits just as well in that syntax, since they both mean the exact same thing in that sentence.

Even when we have other bases to spawn at, most of the team will continue to be in the uncap fighting over planes and choppers... It's a phenomena that has occured much more when these uncap rules were set in place.

These uncap rules, in many cases, have discouraged teams from trying to win the round, and instead encouraged them to sit back and fight over planes and choppers.
Point taken, so we can all agree that the problem therein lies in the player, and not the rules? Can you blame the speed limit for causing an accident when your drive at 90 kmh on a jammed highway/freeway? Logic dictates that you do not drive at the maximum speed when traffic is not moving, yet players refuse the logic of spawning at other flags (if available) when the uncap is pinned.

I admit that I for one will try spawning at an uncap if I see enemies spotted there though. I'm a team player, and keeping the commander assets safe is one of my objectives, as it helps the team overall. As for those waiting for a tank/plane/insert other whored vehicles here...

I never said that I only cared about my own personal fun in the game. I said I play for fun. Having other players that play as a team is fun for me because I'm not getting raped as a disorganized band wanders around a map collecting points. I do not consider playing a computer game as competing - Plain and Simple. Competing infers a desire to determine who is "best" and has an end reward.

There are many holes in your arguement. Especially when I said this earlier.

Essentially what you're doing is nitpicking semantics in an attempt to make yourself sound like a type of player that doesn't really exist in BF2.

We're all competitive players when we play online, and we all compete for fun.

If you wish to define yourself away from the over-competitive people who take the beauty of friendly competition and turn it into a hideous form of poor sportsmanship and unfair advantages, then simply call yourself a, "Casual Gamer."

Make no mistake. You're still a gamer. The word "Gamer" is a synonym of "Competer". Just as the word, "Game" is a synonym of "Competition".

Many of us strive to be the best to our ability. Some of us strive to win. A few of us strive for fame. All of us strive for our own personal amusement.

            How about a Multiplayered Game?

Any game that features player vs player action can be considered competitive, because you are immediately competing against another player to see who is better.

Competing is fun. Fun in a game is usually found in competing.

Re: Server rules a little overboard

I'm sure some players are kidding themselves, you here this a lot from the IO crowd, undertone of 'fight like a man' :p

Same thing here no baserape yeah no rules I must be hard.

The reality ain't like that though, I tried a no rules Oman server last night. Round starts I'm USMC and I know their pilot is probably going to be the same guy as last round. He's fairly decent, takes me around a minute to down him.

Now I have a choice, on a no baserape server I would then go hunting, are my teamates trying to cap an important flag so can I give them cover, a chopper is spotted, where is the bomber all the time mindful of the MIG going back up, ground AA's etc. I know if I do that eventually I'll get taken down by the MIG (if he's decent).

However if that happens here I won't be able to get back in the air as he'll baserape me so I have to stop him taking off.

So then what follows is ten minutes of boring baserape from me until I crash into our other plane (I thought it was his fault but these things happen) and then ten minutes of him doing the same.

Although the other pilot was decent I reckon with no baserape rules I'd have nailed him loads. Which is my point it's actually harder with rules than without so why with all the big talk.

Well, Dairuka - You're obviously the kind that played Football or some other meaningless sport in high school and if you have kids in school, you're probably forcing them to play sports now. I'm not that kind of person. I do not equate playing BF2 with competing. Apparently everything in your life has to be about competition and who is better. There are professionals that have gone to college for a few years that will be happy to talk to you about those feelings.

I've already said my piece, and I did my best to get semantics out of the way.

I've even tried spelling it out for you.

Now you've gone so far as to start insulting me in real life, rather than what I say here on the web-boards, all without showing any indication that you've even bothered to read what I've written.

It's clear to me that you're biased towards competition in general, and not just that which happens during an online multiplayered game. It's clear to me that you have personal issues that wall up the learning process of the obvious. Even Captain Obvious can't save you now. :|:

His attitude towards "competition" wreaks of a loser. Literally!! I think this guy has been on the "losing" side of games so much in life, that he has convinced himself he only plays for "fun".

You're just a competative oriented person that sees everything as a competition and a "Who wins?" situation. Have fun with that attitude in life. It'll get you far.

Another person that has to have specifically defined "Win/Lost" parameters. Good luck to you too.

Battlefield 2 has to be considered competitive, even for the most casual player. If it were not competitive, there would be no ranking system, no scoring in each round, there would be no counting kills and deaths, and there would be no ticket counters next to the mini-map.

Without at least some form of competition... what's the point?

People here seem to be forgetting its about having fun not totaly destroying the enemy. The rules make it so the game is a balanced fight and there fore fun for everyone not just j-10 pilots.

they also make it so the game doesnt advance because ppl have this freedom to hang out at the runway all round without leaving their uncap and it stops the game from actually being played.....

I played last night on a 64 server, and the one side employed that tactic and they slaughtered us, 4 games in a row, with a score no less than 150-0. It got frustrating as some team mates had no squad/team skills and did whatever, leaving their team mates behind and not bothering with capturing flags.
They would get us down to one flag and we were spawn killed so fast, 2 choppers hovering around, jets dropping bombs, and tanks sitting and waiting. It got old really fast.

Also, the hoard of people camping and waiting for a jet blows my mind.
