I think base raping should absolutely be allowed, not spawn camping though. Because the team being raped almost always has defenses against the enemy. Though, they only want their precious little points that don't count for anything. Just say a tank or APC is in their base, they could spawn AT and have them out in less than 30 seconds. If an airplane is strafing their base then they could get on the AA, and after two or three shots he's dead. Then the team has time to get a flag, they never do, they decide to stay in their base and wait for a vehicle to respawn. It's 100% the team's fault.

I've been playing a lot of gulf of oman servers lately and this has become a big issue. If your a smart pilot, you should be helping out your ground pounders in the middle of the battlefield and not way out to one side of the map, far from your actual attackers/defenders, trying to get kills for yourself. Then, when the enemy pilots do come on over, you can just shoot them down if your any good and then go right back to actually helping out your team. I see base raping as nothing more than a cheap trick for inexperienced pilots to keep the enemy out of the air since they are a threat. This be the case, then they should practice dog fighting to the point where they can take out another jet if needed. Also, on maps like gulf of oman, those defenses are static and are extremely easy to take out before even seen, if you have both jets raping then in one pass the entire base is left vulnerable. My advice, practice more and don't rely on cheap tactics.

But you see, I dont even look at it as base rape. If you dont get in a plane or helo, then you are safe to do what you want and go where you want. Stay out of plane and helo = hours of good safe battlefield play for you and your armor whore buddies.

If you want to baserape go to a wake island server, get an f35b, and rape the chinese airfield OR go to Kubra / operation cleansweap and get a f18 or f15. Problem solved. Sure the f15 and f35 suck balls, but if you fly 900 feet, dive stragith down, and pull straight up back to 900 feet you will never have any jets behind you.

I personally clash with the Lame illogical rule of Uncaps being untouchable everyday. I even got banned by some powertripping admins for simply c4ing some guys at the MEC airfield who were trying to kill me after I had to bail from a burning jet.

The servers who enforce this so called "rule" with an iron fist are typically servers run by people who lack reasonable skill and couldn't fight their way out of a plywood box with a 12-gauge.

MY best advice is to find some of the few servers out there that actually disregard the asinine rule and allow uncap killing. TPG (the perfect General) is one for example and their admins are very cool and only kick/ban for issues that actually deserve attention.

How is keeping the Mig and SU grounded so they can't make pass after pass dropping bombs on your infantry not helping the team? Or keeping the Havoc grounded with it's deadly cannon? Like the OP said, Air superiority is a key achievement in this game. But Lame admins insist on keeping the aerial aspect of the game in some kind Top Gun context to where everything should be a balanced Dogfight.

the game is supposed to be fun. no one wants to play every round being capped out with planes raping their main base. without the ability use a plane/chopper/tank, infantry is not going to be able to defend themselves and they are going to get no where.

The rules state server admins can make their uncaps protected and if your being kicked that much, maybe you should re-think how you play.

Squad members in anti air are probably dead by this time so spawn on squad leader (suicide if needed to get there quicker) and join other three taking flag.

Now enemy jets have nowhere to reload (unless a supply drop was provided to them)
That sort of thing takes the organisation of a clan to get going, you'll be hard pressed to find pubbers that coordinated unless they know eachother quite well.

As long as I can remember, you got a good 2 min to get your jets/choppers up in the air, before the enemies jets/choppers get up. Also, you have an essex.

Not true if the chinese take control of the air early (which is easy when they have J-10s they can easly prevent all boats from reaching the island once this is accomplished most of the time tanks sit at the edges of the islands waiting to blow up boats that try to leave whilbe oth j-10s constantly destroy the essex guns and strafe the carrier.

It would be their fault if the jeys were balanced however in this game they are not. if on wake island the first F35 pilot to get in the air is a noob and cant fly then the round is about over unless the rest of the team is full of profesional gamers. Its not TEamwork that wins wake island its air superiority.

I dont have a problem with base rape unless its with a chopper or against a carrier since on a carrier almost people have no where to run to.

Re: Server rules a little overboard

Devon, my friend, you've been playing on the wrong servers. You need to come play on my clan's BF2 servers. http://flotserver.net.

We used to have the traditional "No Base Camping/Spawn Camping" rule. It caused the admins to have to kick and ban all the time, leaving little time to play. Players that were pubbing wouldn't know our rules. We had all the usual rules - Don't bring armor into bases, don't hover over spawns with a helo unless your teammates were capturing the flag, only spec ops in the base and only if they are destroying assets, no stealing enemy vehicles, snipers must be at least 100 m away...

We eliminated the rules mainly to make it easier to play without constant arguments. Our philosophy on base camping was this - Why is it fair to tell PLA not to camp the carrier on Wake, but yet the US can slam the last remaining PLA flag without penalty? This argument can be raised against any map in which one side has a base and the other doesn't.

When we eliminated those rules, we had a few clan members leave because they didn't agree. Amazingly instead of making things worse as "no good base campers" destroyed the game, players learned to adapt. Anyone that brings armor into a base finds themselves quickly dispatched, or finds no one spawning there, instead selecting other spawn points.

With spawn camping, we eliminated that rule without much discussion. In BF2, when you spawn, there are several areas around a spawn point that you appear in, so spawn camping isn't such a big deal.

It is true, that in a perfect gaming environment, players would obey all rules and play so that everyone enjoys the game, but that doesn't happen, so server admins need to adapt. I personally tend not to enter bases unless I want to destroy assets or steal vehicles simply because I don't find it fun going into the bases just because I can. I rarely play on BF2 servers other than my clan's servers, but when I do, I obey their rules. If I don't agree with their rules, I'll go elsewhere.

Let's not even talk about the TA Wake Islad server. Too much idiots are there. Too many racist. I have been called "nig**r" all day today on that server. I have been invited to "nig**r" squad all day. Admins who are do nothing. The people call me that so everyone can see. What have I done to them nothing. I politely ask the admins to deal with the situations and they ignore me by being quiet. I will start a thread soon about this with the screenshot.

Re: Server rules a little overboard

Devon, I agree with your actions in keeping the enemy's air assets on the ground and concede that this is a key aspect of teamwork that should not be overlooked. There are, of course, certain game terms that need to be addressed.

Let's take uncappable flags as an example. I do not agree with (hypothetically) bringing your Armour or APC into the enemy uncappable to do what you need to do. Most players have a few seconds before getting their bearings after they spawn, and it's ample time to shoot them down as you're on your way to destroy their assets. (Let's face it, if you see a guy spawn, you're not gonna let him go.)

Most uncaps have a TOW or two to counter this, but they're easily destroyed.

What I do think is acceptable is infiltrating the uncappable flag on foot or in a transport vehicle (but not using the .50 cal). From there, it's up to you how you take down their air (C4, AT Mines or the good old SRAW).

This is much more acceptable as it is your stealth, deception and just plain skill that keeps you alive as you keep their vehicles grounded.

When it comes to being on foot, I would disagree with taking more than two people (for a 32 player) or four people (for a 64 player) with you. It is too much of a loss to the front-line and can actually be detrimental to your team's success.

Carriers are a different kettle of chips. I understand the necessity and logic of bringing the fight to the enemy, but this is a game, and in pure gaming terms, being carrier-raped by air is not fun. I'm against using choppers and jets to TV Missile and bomb the enemy carrier, as without full team cohesion it's near impossible to get off the damn thing.

I'm fine with bringing an APC or an RIB into the lower decks and advancing up on foot, or parachuting on to the upper decks, much like the land-based uncappables. The only difference is, it's much easier to die on an enemy carrier.

In summary, good work for carring out a gritty and none-too-glamorous aspect of Battlefield 2 that is a genuine help to your team, even if the ungrateful bastards don't realise it.

Exactly. I never have a problem getting killed at the uncap in any game. I'm always outside of it capping a flag... Only players who are lingering and milling about the uncap waiting for choppers and planes whine about this. They want their cake and to eat it too. On some servers they'll even shoot at you from their uncap and then complain to the admins that you're breaking rules if you shoot back at them.

Indeed, why did Dice include AA stations, armor, and every other weapon in the game at uncaps? Gee I wonder, maybe for something called "defense?"
