High point server or unranked. 300-1 kills is perhaps about 1000 tickets.

        Re: 50 kills in plane

        You people crack me up.

The air imbalance in BF2 is the worst in FPS history. Once mastered, and I'll give credit to those who can get that good, it's unstoppable. That doesn't justify the imbalance, because it took a lot of practice to get there. There's no piranha to the jet's shark, like there is for tanks ,apc(s) or other weapons. Every other weapons platform in BF2 no matter how well mastered, has it's Achilles Heel , except Jets (namely the J-10).

There is no paper to the rock of jets in BF2 (once mastered). There's not a smaller weapon when used cumulatively as a team that can down a great pilot. Believe me I've tried with communication and everyone manning the AAs. The most we achieved was a minor inconvenience for the the very best pilots. All they had to do was be a little more careful which airspace they flew threw, or made sure they targeted us first.

When you have to start making up rules about who can attack what to make maps playable, that's a sure sign something is wrong. Of course those rules lead to squabbles and temper tantrums over all the gray areas they created. This coupled with the frenzy for points, is what has not allowed BF2 to be better then it is now.

EA/DICE doesn't change it because many children play this game, and only a child would see satisfaction in that type of gameplay. Mostly the trophy soccer mom generation who feel it's their god given right to be great at every thing, even if it's just an illusion.

I couldnt disagree with you more disfigured. I´ll try to put this in as simple picture as possible.

First, a STA site will ALWAYS be at a disadvantage to a jet.
Secondly, it takes more than one STA manned, to cover the part of the map that counts.
Thirdly, there are only a LIMITED number of people who have put even a fracture of their time into STA, compared to pilots.

Which means, you can ground enemy air force with teamwork, and youll also need experience to counter the jet.

Point me a newbie Anti Tanker who can take out a professional tanker solo.

I agree with disfigured on this one. A tank can be taken out in so many more ways regardless of how skilled they are. A newbie anti-tanker can get in a TOW and take out even the most experienced tanker. The domination a plane veteran can achieve is unmatched by any other class/vehicle....period.

300-1? lol, can I get the link to your friends stats then?

Also, it's against CHOPPA for you to be on these forums, the owners can get in big trouble because of you.

                  ++

Unless you have a good jet pilot in the air, you may as well keep suiciding. AA doesn't do much since most decent jet pilots include that area in their bombing route. :)

You can get about 16-30 with a single bomb drop on a Wake server with baserape allowed on a good day

I got my kill streak of 33 in a bomber on Kubra. I only started flying that round because no one else would.

When you are uncontested by the fighters, a bomber is an unlimited license to kill.

Even better when you can actually down a few J35's with it in the mean time.

You can disagree with me Chris but it's going to take more then that to not make me scoff at your argument.

Always at a disadvantage? That's an argument for my point not yours.

Not enough time spent? That's a facetious argument, sort of like "stay the course" while your getting picked off over and over again, I don't buy it. It's no wonder your third argument holds even less water, no one's tried it long enough?

Your not really expecting me or anyone reading this to believe that because the same hours aren't spent in STA as in flying that's the reason for the difference in effectivenesses between each weapon? Oh boy that may fly in just fell off the turnip truck teenage forums, but it won't fly with me. But I'll keep trying.

I think a similar dynamic is going on. People spend time in STA and it doesn't take long for them to figure out they are pretty much useless against great pilots so they don't bother. That's more likely the reason for less time spent, not impatience. I've never seen a core niche of players who excel at STA, why is that?

Games and their weapons are pushed to the envelope, why not for this particular weapon? Where are the forum threads saying "me and my buddies are awesome with STA". We have threads about knives, shotguns, tanks, apc's, jets, sniper rifles, support, chucking claymores, spamming grenades, but not STA? Seems odd, that out of the thousands of players who play this game you'd be hard pressed to find any that have taken this route. The very fact that the jets are so powerful, and people wish to combat them would usually result in this sort of thing, but it doesn't. I thrive on the David vs. Goliath match ups in this game. I excel at anti-tank, anti-chopper, defense, you name it I try patiently to get good at it, as my K/D drops like rock. Yet against almost all pilots except the most inept, I just consider myself a target, nothing more, nothing less.

Or are you suggesting that the difference in time spent in the actual weapon is why there's imbalance? Sort of like, people are always flying but no one is manning STA. Well no one is manning them because it's more then likely not going to result in any benefit. They figured that out very quickly.

The only people I've heard make the claim that the STA just takes more practice and once mastered can be useful, are pilots. That seems kind of odd.

Point to one newbie who can take out a great tanker?

Your looking at one. And any kid who played an FPS that used missiles (hundreds of thousands) , only needs to map his keys in BF2 and he's off and running. It's a basic slow traveling FPS weapon that's been used in many many games. I could wear boxing gloves , go as engineer, lay mines, and take out tanks. Even the best tankers miss mines. How would pilots like it if nearly invisible floating mines dotted their landscape? They'd probably lobby for their removal.

Jet dominance isn't insurmountable, its just extremely imbalanced. There's no piranha to the shark that is a jet in BF2, and there should be. But I don't see the STA in BF2 providing that against the best pilots. I agree it should take incredible team work and not be a "one shot wonder" thing. For the sake of gameplay it should. Even ladder leagues would benefit, I mean do you really think teams want to spend so much time worrying about air strength? It should be top priority, not the only priority.

I respect your knowledge of flying. But, if you have any other secrets for STA other then "try for a longer time" then I'd really like to hear them.

Typical. Youre the kind of guy who has made up his mind a long time ago and will not be changed however objective the arguments may be. Fact is- STA sites provide you with missiles that dont miss. So whats the problem? The problem is you not willing to push that far to use them to their fullest potential.

Always at a disadvantage? That's an argument for my point not yours.
But have you even considered WHAT ARE those disadvantages? The experience part of the necessity for good STA usage, is to come up with methods to overcome those advantages.

                            1) If you occupy the STA, its going to disappear from the map. As a pilot, I check the map often
                            2) If you occupy the map, its going to light up in a pilots HUD, from 375 metres away. A pilot can now blast the STA site, while the STA operator has to wait for a lock and deal with flares, also 375 metres away.
                            3) STA op has to align himself to FIND the jet

These are the main 3 problems which are solved by "skill" and "experience". I noticed that all you did was complain about the unfairness of the jets, and really didnt go into details as why its so.

I accept jets being overpowered, but they have a counter. Ive also listed about 10-15 tweaks that would lower their impact on the field and make them a little less potent against STA, so Im not what you think I am.

However I always get a grin on my face when poor infantry players complain their hearts out in a post which is essentially a "JETS SUK AS5, NURF EM!!!!!!". Yours aint any different, but probably looks better.

Not enough time spent? That's a facetious argument, sort of like "stay the course" while your getting picked off over and over again, I don't buy it. It's no wonder your third argument holds even less water, no one's tried it long enough?
Which is just proving what I mean. What happens when you jump into Karkand action as a newbie? You get killed and mauled. You get better, and eventually get effective.

                            Apply to STA.

Ive got a 3:1 KDR in air defense, and I dont expect my odds to kill a jet to be higher than 50:50, and that, my friend, is very high expectancy. Youre a David, against a Goliath. But youve got enough to kill the Goliath. What bugs me is the 3 shot kill against a jet, but thats an entirely different matter.

Anyway, teamwork aspect comes second to experience. And I dont think I have the time to explain it more. Rushing to catch a bus, and looking forward to continue this in 3 days.

Why do 63 when you could do 64? Fly straight into the air, drop bombs, bail, and have a race to the bottom.

To interject into Chris and Disfigured's conversation.

I agree that inherintly, the STA is at a disadvantage to the jet, but I am certain that when used appropriately, one player can change the course of an entire game.

I had a natural knack for AAA to start with, and it was my first expert badge, so I consider myself above-average in an anti-aircraft role.

But, long before I got there, I found I could effectively ground all but the best pilots quite quickly with a single STA. Give me even a marginal partner on the other side of the map, and good pilots will fall too.

BF2 allows people to get into any vehicle and operate it with only a few minutes or hours (for helos) practice, and they will meet the basic competencies required to get kills.

The STA is no different. An expert pilot/tanker whore is devastatingly lethal, and can change the course of a game. An expert STA operator may not get the same kill count, but they can have as significant an effect on the game by essentially nullifying the effectiveness of the air force.
