Re: My opinion on sniping in Bf2

Snipers have a powerful kit which is obviously balanced well w/ the other kits, or you would not see every 1, "& their uncle" using the kit, & that is already over abused

There are already too many snipers, if you make sniping any easier, & make moving across the map any harder than it already is w/ planes, choppers, tanks, APC's, arty, mounted guns, & 'nade spamming......then who is going to take flags?

IMO sniper rifles are not "broken", they work just fine, what really doesn't make sense is that it takes 4-6 bullets from an assault rifle to kill an enemy @ "point blank range"

If any high powered rifle in BF2 could kill w/ 1 shot to the body, then they all should kill w/ 1 shot to the body (w/ sniper rifles having more range, & accuracy of course)

Re: My opinion on sniping in Bf2

Sniping and every other aspect in this game that takes precision are bull****.

I have always been a good sniper in every game i've played, and even in BF2. I should be good... but whenever I snipe someone, I get a cloud of dust on their face and nothing happens. No hit detection.

That, and I could be aiming at someone 100m away, PRONE, SITTING STILL, and line up with their head.. and shoot, and nothing happens. Just a puff of smoke and no kill... hell not even a registered shot...

So I try over and over again, by the 3rd shot they realise where it's coming from and then out-snipe you with their G36E/AK/PKM/"insert random commonly used weapon here"....

I hate sniping, unless it's with the M-95 and some noob is in my seat.

Stop spreading false information and confusing the smurfs and nubs SB.

Especially for you a revised version of the drop table ...

From my experience it seems to me that it has changed, I don't think EA/Dice lists all the details of their changes

I used to have to "hold over" @ long range, now if I "hold over" @ all I miss, if they didn't change the bullet drop, then they had to have tweaked the sights on the L96 (my choice in sniper rifles)

If I am wrong maybe it is just me, everytime I go back, & try an old weapon that I didn't like before it seems to have improved, maybe it is just me

You're right it does seem like they have changed the bullet drop, but for some reason i'm seeing more and more snipres. And 2 claymores per sniper + about 20 sniper = CLAYMORE FEST

Get PRM and you will enjoy some real sniping and get high kill counts, none of the fake sniping like in vanilla BF2.

If you are talking about poor hit detection on a moving target I understand, but on a non moving target I don't "get it", I have failed to get a kill w/ a shot to the head (of a non moving target) w/ the sniper rifle only showing a cloud of dust twice since I started playing this game

I do remember a couple of patches back every knife to the body was a kill, but then they changed something, & quite often now you have to stab a guy 2, or 3 times

                  snipers are balanced? lol

you should see how many snipers i can take out with ak101,ak47,g36 before they even hit me. a bolt action rifle needs to make up for the fact you have to wait before firing again.

it takes 3 bullets from an automatic gun to kill or just 1 bullet to the head, which is pretty damn easy to get when close up.

so why are players able to survive a sniper the majority of the time when they go down way faster with a gun that should be less powerful ?

the whole game is full of poor hit detection, its common to get no hit indication when you blatently see smoke coming from the model.

yes sniper rifles were adjusted in patch 1.2 or maybe 1.21, there is now quite alot less bullet drop than there used to be, but its still there.

its not point at head and get a kill serialbutcher, maybe on karkand where sniping is down to like 50m distances...

People, for the last time. Bulletdrop in this game is effected by the weaponspeed. The weaponspeed has NOT been changed during any patch I have seen. In other words the bulletdrop is still the same as it was on day 1 of this game.

You can argue what you want but this is a cold hard fact. If you choose to ignore it for whatever reason it is up to you. As long as you put behind that post the IMO.

                      1. A sniper kit shouldn't be superior to an assualt rifle in CQC (it is as it should be), & yes, I too kill a lot of n00b snipers w/ assault, & support weapons

                      2. I agree when you speak of hit detection on moving targets, but I have never had a problem w/ non moving targets

                      3. Hmmm....I am glad some ppl agree

same.. every other game i snipe in i get perfect headshots for a good 90% of my kills. bf2 is just nerf everything so some little penis can run around and not die, yet vehicles mash people up instantly why is that ok?

im just waiting for the fags at dice to nerf the AK's and pkm and when that happens im gonna smash my bf2 dvd with a hammer and send dog **** in the post to ea and dice with bits of my disk in there.

this is a war game, it shouldnt be a game of flipping a coin to see if your bullets will reg and hit someone, i want guns to be deadly, i want to be afraid to run across a road.

Yeah, sniping in BF2 can be a bit mad at times, but at least it's not as easy as it was in 1942 - all you had to do then was bring the scope up, wait for it to steady (a pause of no less than a second iirc), then put the dot on-target and blam!

I remember killing players as they came out of the radar bunker (second land flag on the Midway map), from the wooden huts near the runway, which was a great laugh for me but didn't require any skill.

The most enjoyable sniping I have ever had in gaming, was using the original SVD rifle on Operation Flashpoint: having to measure the target using the 'height markers' and then pick the correct 'arrow' to place the round (there were 4 of these arrows each for 250 meters iirc).

                          Edit: found a piccy http://www.impactguns.com/store/medi..._ret_1000m.jpg

why shouldnt a sniper be able to kill someone in close up fighting ? if you can shoot them and get the bullet to hit, then its perfectly fair... and i do kill with the sniper rifle close up, i was deadly in cs at doing that and i can still do it in this game, because although the zoom is ****, its enough to be able to headshot someone stood right in front of you.
but the main thing is they should be superior at distance, as thats what they are designed for, but here in nerfy bf2 land, they dont do their job.

so youve never been <100m away from an afk player and headshot them and they dont die? despite it being a perfect headshot.

BULLETDROP IS THE SAME FOR ALL WEAPONS IN THE GAME

This has allready been confirmed 7 months ago by the people at DICE

It was discussed ages ago on the Total BF2 forums. It began when somebody did tests on bulletdrop on Gulf of Oman and the thread got a lot of peeps replying to it. I think the OP finaly came into contact with somebody at DICE which confirmed the bulletdrop ingame. I found the thread --> Bulletdrop Thread - Total BF2 Forums.

Results after testing were as follows ...

Testing again was done by Black_Duck_1.

The results were measured in a level firing field. Ingame you will have to compensate for being either on an higher or lower elevation than your targets position.

A sniper weapon does do more damage to the body than the assault, or support weapons do, & not all assault rifles kill w/ 1 round to the head

But in most cases the assault, or support player will "point shoot" you first (as it should be)

I have "point shot" (w/ out zooming) players w/ the sniper rifle about 1/2 dozen times, it ain't easy

The sniper rifle is superior in my hands @ distance, I have no idea what you are doing wrong, maybe you are not putting the crosshairs EXACTLY in the middle of their head

I have made thousands of kills w/ the sniper rifle, & have only shot a head, & seen a "puff of smoke" maybe 2, or 3 times

I usually only snipe other snipers, they are extremely easy to kill, becasue they don't move, & think you can't see them lol

im just waiting for the fags at dice to nerf the AK's and pkm and when that happens im gonna smash my bf2 dvd with a hammer and send dog **** in the post to ea and dice with bits of my disk in there.

this is a war game, it shouldnt be a game of flipping a coin to see if your bullets will reg and hit someone, i want guns to be deadly, i want to be afraid to run across a road.
Hmmm......If I die while sniping it is not because I missed, or because the bullet "failed", it is because I got shot by some 1 quicker

Shouldn't a running target be more difficult to hit?

As a matter of fact I do get sniped while running, I guess some ppl got it figured out, & have a nice ping too lol

Guess we all have our failings, but I don't see how EA/Dice's is to blame for ppl not making kills w/ the most accurate guns in the game

Maybe I just don't "know any better" because I have never played any other game, & haven't been "spoiled" by the nice sniper rifles you guys speak of

But I do see you point, I wish all the weapons were more deadly (realistic), it would slow the game down a little, & would make BF2 less "arcade like"

I will accept your evidence as fact, however I do believe that there is some other factor in play that has so many ppl coming to the same wrong conclusion

                                Any ideas?
