Re: Would you play a Medieval 'genre' MOD?

I would give it a go, after all, if you like it, then why not try and see what might get out of that idea? Just know what you want and go for it, take in consideration the fans and players ideas and start (pretty much like you did here, but extended).

Anyway, i would definitly try it, althought im a ww2 lover, from time to time i like to try something diferent, that happened with Siege, i tried it with some clan mates back then and had a really fun time! The horses! Man i had a laugh with those, the way the people fighted, the man to man fights (no prone and fire headshot ********... hehe), pity that Siege stopped the development, because i would still playing it just for the fun.

For example, did you tried the Pirates mod? (for bf42), it´s a really fun mod, and it´s the most similar to a medieval thing, althought it has alot of firearms, but still, the swrod are kinda fun, and that´s the key word: FUN, make your mod fun to play, fun to be just axing everybody!! FUN.

      And now some ideas.

Some people will probably say WTH?? But anyway

Dragons, i would like it, they would "shoot" fire, it would be the mod plane, it could even have a rock that he would throw just for the fun of it. :p
For example the "take off" could be vertical (its a dragon damn it!), you could use the american jet fighter code for this) all you need is a good wing animation so the dragon don´t look like a stick in the air lol.

Hand to hand combat, like it was said before, one key to swing the weapon and the other to raise the shield (this shield would defend him front frontal attacks of arrows and swords for example).

You can have Castles with destructable doors!! Lke Pirates 2 is making, imagine the last stand on a map would be a castle, the main door is shut, so you get your big ramming machine and start pwning it until it´s destroyed, the other team all it can do is fix it from time to time, delaying the inevitable destruction of the castle door (teamwork to take the biggest amount of time to destroy the door by the other team).

Arrows and stuff like that, well, it would depend on the code, but make them have to crouch atleast to get some accuracy, like the deployable mg on FH, if you are standing and running you just don´t hit anything, if you are crouching it´s better, but you must wait a small period so the gun gets steady, this system will make the players not running around like maniacs, that or make these just pick up kits, all other kits are from the menu and are swords, axes, etc, non shooting weapons.

You can have catapults that could shoot fireballs like in the medieval times, or rocks or whatever.

Horses... hehe, you need to work on a good animation so the horses doens´t look like the siege one, but it was still fun to use them, and since you can use your weapons on a vehicle in bf2, you can code the horses so you can use the weapons on it (sword and spear attack, hehe).

Oh, don´t forget to take the parachutes out, that is the only thing i don´t like in pirates... :p

Now it´s imagination and designing the look you want (more realistic or more "Lord of the Rings" style).

      Just make it FUN. :)

if there every will be a medievil game i would play it but i think it may be more suited to a console like the wii were you can actually slash and pull back arrows etc. with realism.

although if you make it for bf2 i wil play it...

Yes, only if done proper and realistic. That means no dragons, knife can block and axe, 3 stabs to the face to kill someone, etc bs.

I really enjoy playing Pvk2 mod for Hl2. Has a very good combat system, weapons etc.
          Doesn`t have that repetetive click-to-swing s*it.

            I think that'd be awesome!

I love going to the King Richards Renaissance Faire in the Fall down the road!! So why not immerse myself in a medieval genre Battlefield?

It'd be cool to have the different classes with their individual weapons and skills. I'd love to mount a horse with a shiny suit of armor and gallop into battle!

Re: Would you play a Medieval 'genre' MOD?

The problem with this type of mod is the amount of custom animations needed to make is successful. The close combat would be a little tricky to get right, but could be very effective. You have to think of other ways of balancing the gameplay otherwise each 'nation' won't have a unique identity. We've got some very interesting ideas being thrown about currently, it will be a mod based on a fair amount of stealth and will be very different from vanilla bf2 in terms of gameplay and appearance.

If anyone would like to help out, then just give me a yell through PM. I'd like to note that although we are using a medieval genre setting, the mod is actually based on a very popular mythology

Is that for the Medieval mod we discussed here?

No idea, i was pointed to the video by Woodrow. All i know is it looks pretty good, although the textures are pretty woeful.

I think for this to work we would need some different game modes other than conquest. I am not sure what but I think something would need to be different.

thats a game in its self

                              Question to all forumers:

Would you be happy with a sword and shield release to allow you to get the hang of the new combat system? Or would you demand more weapons?

Be careful about releasing a mod with small content. Even if it is extremely fun, it will get boring if there is not much to do, and you will lose a lot of your initial fanbase. People will be willing to try the mod once when it first comes out, but not too many will try it a second time if the first did not live up to their expectations. Look at the BattlePaint mod or even BF42 Pirates for example.
