I hear some people find it quite fun.

Put BF2, dumbed down gameplay mechanics, Tribes 2/Planetside and spyware in a blender and you've got 2142.

Care to elaborate on "dumbed down gameplay mechanics"?

And as for the "spyware", good God people, how many times do you have to hear/read EA say that no personal information is being collected? Do you get mad when retail stores sell their sales info to marketing firms for the purpose of demographic research? I guess tin foil hats never go out of fashion.

That game is worth nothing past a cheap laugh slamming the transport in to the defenseless mechs.

I'll admit the Conquest mode wasn't exactly the best experience I've had (mostly because we had 32 people on a 64 sized map), but Titan mode is hella fun!

I'm glad to see the general gaming community agrees with me too because BF2 still has over 200%-400% more players online (currently 20,000 in BF2 and 10,000 in BF2142) than 2142 at any given time and I believe after that number of people peaks within the next couple of weeks it will begin to gradually slump as people quickly get tired with the dumbed down/poorly balanced gameplay in 2142 and either leave that game or migrate back to BF2.

Well, BF2 has been out for well over a year and a half, and BF2142 has been out...24 hours. Give it time.

Spyware/adware is exactly what everyone thinks it is. Please don't use the rank tracking system in BF2 as a comparison either. THAT information is server side and not "mined" from your PC. And Yes, I do request to opt out of all information sharing programs, even to the point of not doing business with companies that do not offer an opt out program. This adware/spyware WILL snoop around on your machine and gather demographic information. If it didn't, then there would be no purpose for it. Dynamic ads could be inserted via the server side and changed periodically based on consumer response. What difference does it make as to what angle you view an ad from or how long you view it? Pish Posh. The ad program that will be running on your computer is a data miner and THAT is why EA put that piece of paper in the box that says if you don't agree to letting EA mine your data, then don't install the game. If this program did not mine data from your browser cache, then it would be worthless. Your position to an ad or how long you look at it are not considered demographic datum.

Lest we all forget, the EA Downloader does the same thing. As soon as I found that out, I uninstalled it and removed all of that program's permissions from my anti-adware/spyware programs.

Finally, I have my machine set to delete all cookies/cache and NEVER check the "remember me" box for sites I have to log into. I try to leave as few opportunities for bad guys to find an advantage as can. I would like to remind everyone that the ranktracking system was hacked, EA downloader was rumored to have been hacked and I am sure that the dynamic ad system will be hacked at some time in the future. After all, it will be far too tempting for hackers to insert pornographic ads.

Ok so there are adverts in game, hell it could add some realism into it. Only one thing, are the adverts made so they feel and look like you're in 2142? Tbh, from the demo everything except for the vehicles and weapons looked like ordinary modern era stuff (eg: Most statics etc..)

It would've worked well for BF2 (adverts in game on billboards and stuff) as you could relate to them and it would've made the atmosphere more realistic instead of seeing DICE-Cream on every bloody billboard. I doubt companys would bother making their adverts seem futuristic and i'm guessing that you're gonna get 21st century adverts in a game that's supposed to be set near the middle of the 22nd century.

wait a minute, that is what I want to see when I play. I think that would be gold for EA if when you sign-up you had to give your age and sex (some verification process needed), then you would get decent ads!

Hell if it is like some Bud Light commercials, you might watch the billboard instead of playing the game! Just make sure your body dies in a direction you can keep looking at it for the 15 seconds till the respawn!

The superior population in BF2 disagrees with you. Make no mistake about it if 2142 was a better game or even an equal game to BF2 it would have more players online right now. BF2 is almost 2 years old FFS.

If you'd like my elaboration go dig up my full BF2142 review on various 2142 forums. Suffice it to say after being in the closed beta and demo I was highly unimpressed.

Did you hear when the President told us Iraq had WMDs? Don't believe everything you hear especially when it's from a faceless corporation who only cares about the bottom line. I'd think if the President can lie to billions of people and get away with it then it wouldn't be too difficult for a gaming company to lie to a couple thousand people about something much less serious.

It's laughable because in the DICE statement they say they collect no personally information yet in the same sentence they admit to collection your IP address. Give me an IP address and I can have your name and you address courtesy of your ISP. But who knows what else they are collecting and won't admit to (tracking cookies anyone?). I have no doubt that people who bought the game off EA downloader have their name and address tied directly to their CD key and thus when you're online they tie the marketing directly to your real life name ect.

Unskilled Karkand n00bs will have a bang up time inside the Titan. Toss grenade, sit proned in the hallways and set up claymores/RDX packs for easy unskilled point whorage. That is of course until someone flies a transport in to the titan or the titans collide and lag everyone to hell.

Meaning what exactly? 2142 has been out for three days now... Battlefield 2 reached peaked population about a week or two after the release? As I said after the initial spike 2142 population WILL drop because it is a shallow and ultimately boring game. I know if I wasted 50 bucks preordering the steaming pile of dung I'd play a little bit to justify the purchase.

EA knows many many biased players (especially the ones who don't visit forums) will buy the game, and chances are, make it a very successful launch.

They have succeeded, because so many people have bought the game. Even the ones who said they wouldn't.

Honestly, how do you expect the average player to get word not to by it? Have a water-cooler discussion at the POW camp after a round of Karkand and all the players talk about their feelings of EA?

Of course people are going to buy the latest and greatest. It is really the activist editors at magazines that have to spread the word, not just sig banners.

Let's just say... any given PC user connects to a TeamSpeak server to talk with his clanmates. TS Server Admin checks connection info of user, user's IP address is revealed. Oh noes!111!11!!shift+1!11! Like, now they've obtained all kinds of personal information about this guy! I don't think so.

The same user visits a website running the popular E107 plugin. Admins of the site check the visitors region of the page, a guest is seen, and an IP address is fully displayed. Ok, so... now what?

Give me an IP address and I can have your name and you address courtesy of your ISP.

Name? Give me a brief process description of how you collect such. Address? Alright, so you'll find my city... now you've got it narrowed down to 213,000 residents. Good luck! Plus, AOL users' IP differs from the one often provided.

In one day, I earn myself well over 30 tracking cookies just through reading some webpages. Who gives a crap? Certainly not me. I run a Smartscan with Ad-Aware and quarantine them (even though they perform no harmful actions as they are). And that's something I only take the time do when I scan for viruses, which actually deserve to be considered a threat.

You BF2 players need to acquire some intelligence, and just play the damn game. Being a coward because of a small white slip of paper in the 2142 box is the last thing on my mind. I've had a great time with this game; there are twice as many awards, several more unlocks, purely awesome maps, vehicles are highly realistic, weapon selection range is decently increased, the menu layout and function is of a far better design, now in existence is a buddy list and message communication ability, and there's a news ticker at the bottom of the menu to keep players up-to-date on recent changes and events. BF2142 = BF2 modification? I think not.
