Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
Sheeeeesh how many freaking 2142 threads can there be on a Battlefield 2 forum, but I'm sure as hell not getting it especially after the spyware has come to light.
SPYWARE in a GAME!!!! Whoa! That's truly over the top.
So, I pay full retail price for a game and then agree to having spyware installed so all my surfing habits can be tracked and distributed to God knows who??? What other personal information is being collected and divulged?
No way I'll EVER buy BF2142 knowing they've inserted spyware into it.
I am not buying 2142 anytime soon. I will if someone ports BF2 as a mod for 2142 sometime down the road.
As for the spyware stuff. It is sad that this is the beginning. If you know anything about firewalls, you will be able to block ports and servers that the spyware communicates with. What compounds all this, they will be able to update this software, like Punkbuster, to get around your firewall by changing the ports and such.
I have not read anything yet about if it is disabled or circumvented, that the game will not play on ranked servers, but I don't think it would be hard for the to update it to do such.
What you could see though, is that they start sending email ads to whatever you registered your NICK under. It sucks because there could be some day that you need to get legitimate info from EA, and not just the sold information to affilates.
My greatest question, how is this really going to benefit us the consumers? They advertise at the beginning of movies now, but has the price of a ticket gone down? Is the concession stand cheaper? Has the quality of movies gotten better? Are we getting free add-on content or promo products for it?
Are they going to bring the cost of ranked servers down? Will we start to see free booster-packs? Will we see the cost of the intial title purchase be cheaper?
Colin?! How is this going to benefit us? History already has a track record to prove otherwise.
As per the patch 1.01, one of the "known issues" is as follows:
Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update.
Here's what this security update does:
MS06-051: Vulnerability in the Windows kernel could result in remote code execution
To be able to run BF2142 and the spyware in it, the patch have to uninstall a windows critical security update and leave your pc vulnerable to attacks.
$50 for that? NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!
2142 blows. It has spyware, adware, tons of old and new bugs, glitches, crashes just, if not more, often than bf2, and causes conflicts with the latest version of XP. Anyone who didn't expect this from EA and complains about 2142 needs to blame theirselves only.
I will never buy an EA product, including 2142, again. BF2 was the last.

What truly smacks me in the face is that the spy-ware is used to collect YOUR data and help with generating appropriate Ads for the game, ads that EA charges the third party for broadcasting them on your PC. BUT you still pay FULL PRICE for the game. That my friends is call double dipping. Every other softeware program that is ad ridden is FREE BECAUSE of the ads. In order to avoid seeing the constant ads, those companies offer a program you can BUY that skips the ads. NOOOOOOO, BF2142 wants the cake and eat it too. Sorry EA, but I have learned my lesson. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ME. I don't see me smearing ashes on my face while wearing sackcloth.

Well I think everyones interpretation of the "software" that's being installed is a bit skewed, that said, EA has said that the only information that is taken from your computer is your IP and that is to ensure they send the correct packets of ads to the correct people (UK people don't get US ads and so forth). Also, the information and ads in game are the only things looked at, no other information is taken from your computer and browser, they just look at which ads in-game are viewed, for how long and at what angle.
All of that makes me a happier camper.
