I have been playing sniper seriously for only a few weeks, but boy with a little common sense, it is a direct route to a high kill rate.

I went from an average 1-1 kill/death ratio, to easily 5-1 in a week or two. most rounds where I play patiently I am seeing 20-30 kills. I found the Barret really helped me out at first, and made those longer shots easier (I earned my Veteran badge with it in my first two rounds at Wake). Now, I love the L96a1. It doesn't have the power, but for some reason I just can't miss (well, not much anyways).

As for favorite spots. I like to move around and play the roof tops and mixed brush around the edges of the cities. i do find however, that I get the most kills on the Sharki Construction crane. A little strange since the first place i scan for snipers is cranes and tall buildings, but i guess most folks are too busy to notice me.

One little trick i started to do recently as well:

I grab a MEC van, and find a good camping spot in the bushes. I jump up on top, and use the van as a shooting platform. It gets me elevated just a little, the gun turret provides some protection against counter snipers, and all I have to do to haul *** away in an arty strike is press E.

Again, you would think I would be a huge meatball target, but the vehicle doesn't show up as an enemy to most since I'm not actually in it.

To the argument that snipers are worthless.....In CQC with my pistol and knife I am a challenge and at 75M+...pure killing. Sounds dumb but I made a sniper only account....Never gets old being called a hacker.. lol

The only time I even use the kit is when I kill one, take his bag, drop his claymores (if he has any) and swap back to my kit.

Aside from that, I can't stand having them on my team.
I just view it as the most worthless do-nothing class in the game.

A skilled medic going from flag to flag on his own will kill 10x more people than any sniper will, not to mention he will assist in flag caps unlike the guy sitting under the tree for the last 45 minutes.

While being a sniper, there are lots of maps where one sniper can defend two or more flags. I constanly get 15-25 kills per round as a sniper. While playing defence, my K/D ratio is usually something like 20/2-5. I don't consider myself being worthless.

About sniper talk, last night was pretty good. On round on a 64 player of Road to Jalalabad K/D=25/0 + 7 defended flags + No. 1 of our winning team.

Also last night; I dropped 4 times the driver from moving jeep. 2 was moving sideways, 2 attacking direct against me. Made me feel like I could castrate flys with my rifle :laugh:

well, ill point out that my best spot is o the road to jalalabad map and for some reason, i NEVER get killed there. the only times that i rarely get killed is by artillery, probably because the commander is getting kinda pissed at me so he cranks up the arty. but for some reason, no matter how many times ill kill them, they never seem to find me.
id love to tell you guys this spot, but as most good snipers know, dont give away ur position. its pretty easy to find and all you need to know how to do is how to use the spot, and patience.
anyway... i think playing commander as a sniper is the best. ive gone to servers that have the worst commanders, who never do anything, and it pisses me off. so i mutinyed him and i got the position and i think its just the best. the snipers sit in a position and wait ( unless ur the snipers who choose to rush and jump and fire and repeat...) so u have plenty of time to fire artillery, do scan, plant UAV's and everything else, but u also must be good with the rifle. dont just get the sniper kit to be commander but suck at the rifle. u have to be good with it, otherwise ull end up getting kicked.
i love playing commander. i get to go to my FAV map, play my favorite kit with my favorite gun in my favorite spot, and play as commander, wihch helps ur team win, and u get points and all kinds of stuff.

The only score i care about is kill:death - logic being that on a battlefield once you are dead you tend not to resurrect - so I'll always be happier with an 11:2 than a 35:34.

Obviously the way to do this is be a Jet whore - but I buy flight sims for that sort of thing and I like the logic of being good with £3000 of sniper rifle than £50M of jet.

Snipers aren't worthless, if i can't be bothered to aim properly i'll pull out the SVD or Type 88 and go Assault like that. Easy stuff.

see thats what i dont get about some snipers. they take out a SVD or Type 88 and start rushing. as a sniper, ur supposed to be hidden, or at least far away. unless of course ur going to a different spot. otherwise, stay back or lie down and wait for ur shots. but if u like to rush with a SVD, thats just you i guess, but you mine as well just get an assault or SF kit.

SVD is a beastie weapon, and is my preferred gun whenever I sniper.

Cant say the same for type88 though.. I think the scopes are off :s

i love sniping, over 1/2 my time in game is as a sniper. when i first started i sucked, but i got better and now i think i'm decent. snipers aren't worthless, i've helped out tons of people by spotting enemies coming up on them, etc.

my favorite thing as a sniper is to take out other snipers. especially when they have no clue where i am and they keep going back to the same spot.

I think Ive killed more snipers then ever been killed by them.

I only pick sniper to screw around, they are pretty much useless to everyone but the guy thats being a sniper. With heal packs and revives getting shot from a mile away is of really no concern of mine.
Plus I like action and taking flags, so that kinda voids the abilities of the sniper.
Now theres always the ability to play like a noob and spam claymores...but until my attachable vagina comes in the mail Ill stay away.

Interesting but rubbish at the same time. Snipers that sit in one place the whole game and get 4 kills are a waste of time. Snipers that spot enemy, claymore alleys and heavily populated areas and know what they arer doing are invaluable. I've had kills of 60+ in a few maps and often get gold ahead of medic whores.

Every class plays it's part, you just need to know how to do it. By the way i have my Expert sniper and expert explosive (with clays) so i wouldnt class my choice as sniper as a waste of time

And that probably applies to every class so what's your point?

Also to the person who posted about the L96 being the quietest sniper rifle I think you're kind of missing the point. Although it is the quietest it is also the highest pitched, most destinctive and in my books the easiest to realise is being fired at you, especially in a heated battle.
