The reason younger players get a bad rep IMO is that they tend to narrate everything that is going on at all times....such as "i'm getting in a car now" "i'm going here" "i just got somewhere" "i'm going to go as assault with the F2000 I just unlocked" etc etc.
The inability to censor the unimportant coupled with what can sometimes be an annoying voice (though it's not something they can be blamed for) makes a lot of players jaded towards the whole group.
The voice thing doesn't bother me, but incessant talking about relatively unimportant actions can be distracting. I find that very few people actually use the in-game VoIP anyways so it's not much of a problem.6
There are exceptions to the rule, but that is what I have seen. I would tell him to mute you if he doesn't want to listen but I'm not sure if that can be done in BF2 or not. I know it works in 2142 though.
