But rather than having to learn to play the game as designed, they can now opt out (or is that cop out) with IO mode.

I've always felt that the stats were undermined by the huge differential in the spm between maps. It didn't particularly bother me until IO, a game mode designed that yet further enhances this differential. IO has made a play style available that some may genuinely like, but it has worsened the problem of the generalisability of stats and rank.

The spm differential between maps is worsened by the inadequate balancing of points for team actions between classes. For example an engy on an armor map gets 1/3rd the spm of a medic on an infantry map, thats not the fault of the engy or medic, but the game / points system.

Getting uptight about it may seem pointless, but I for one would like DICE to know they're pandering mainly to point farmers.
id call armor a means to stat farm points, and its easyer to do if youre engy.

      youre weapons stats.....
      kills 13,158 deaths 17,493 (0.75) (17.34%) 527:55:57

      now veichle stats......
      kills36,173 deaths13,653 k.d (2.65) (roadkills) 3,749 701:42:04

now obviously youre mutch better in a tank than on the ground.

or is it beacuse you know you can score more points in a tank?
you have 170ish hours more in armor/ect but have 23,000ish more kills.

im not going to suggest youre a armor whore or a stat whore you play the way you play beacuse you enjoy it,long may it continue.

i agree with you writings about spm differential between maps is worsened by the inadequate balancing of points for team actions between classes, i should know i play sniper most of the time, gold is rare but worth it when i get it.

      now my stats for weapons..
      kills 7,022 deaths 5,057 kdr (1.39) acc (36.86%) 204:58:06

not the best but ive only played 3 rounds of IO that is all standard bf2 with mainly a sniper rifle ,pistol ,a few nads, and clays to use.

      i havent used the other weapons as mutch(maybe i should :) )

      my armor/ect stats
      kills 2,651 deaths 1,248 kd (2.12) road kills 243 59:46:15

total time online with weapons and armor/ect 265:37:05

as you can see my style varies from your's but even if i played IO to match youre time of 1318:48:14

      i would not gain 50,115kills.

but i would get close if 701:42:04 out of 1318:48:14 was using armor/ect

IO is differnt from standard bf2 but instead of giving 1-4 players a high score (like standard bf2) it will even it out a bit more.

yes hardcore infantry players can probaly get over 150 or more points iar,but thats nothing new it happens on standard bf2 servers alot to.

im not going to give up playing standard bf2 due to IO mode,i like to play somthing differnt from time to time, and as a avid sniper to another avid kit(engy) you should apricate dedication to a kit, youre kit fits a tank better in standard bf2 (i.e you can maximise it's abilty there and gain good score's)

where as my kit(sniper) in standar bf2 doesnt always shine, but in IO at least i can get a few points for my time and my role as a sniper is vital from a teamwork perspective, the prase "enemy sniper spotted" bring fear to squad mates in IO more so than standard bf2(most players hated snipers and called them usless, and they never help the team ect)

      its oposite in IO.

p.s me taking youre stats from formitron was not intended to flame or anything, more of a comparison between each of our game style's,hence why i showed mine.

not every one plays medic/support,yes alot do but not all :)

Hard-earned? Hmmm... perhaps you should try doing that without the armour then.

Mate, I have nothing against armour-whores. Or jet-whores, or chopper-whores. Better having a couple on our side, than having them on the other team, if you know what I mean. Hell, sometimes I get frustrated that there aren't enough of them, so the enemy comes up and steals our tank. The only time I EVER use a tank or APC (and my armour kills are predominantly APC... at 4:1) is when I spawn and no-one else is using it. And I do THAT, because I know that if I don't use it, an enemy is just going to come along, jump into it, and kill me with it. But most times I'm a squad leader, and if that is the case, I usually just give it to the person that spawns on me first.

But ya can't complain about 'point-farming' in IO, when you have 27,000 kills as an armour whore. Fact is, you would not have the rank you have today, if you didn't use the armour as a preference. At least in IO, everyone is even.

        Hence my comment... pot-kettle-black

Well, yeah I specialise in armour / engy. Those stats are based on Zatar etc and not infantry maps I don't play engy or armour on infantry maps, excepting rare exceptions.

I suppose not switching to the winning side and staying with the losers doesn't help either, but hey I like the challenge. It screws the stats but I really don't care. I enjoy going for medals and badges etc, but pretty much don't care about the rest.

No, it's because the team always needs somebody who is willing to start at the main, check (for enemy), protect (with mines), repair any assets, and move through to the front going through the flags looking for enemy, and laying the odd mine to protect them. That's my routine. Sometimes I'll give the tank to a teammate at the front and return to the main in a dpv (or whatever), and then bring the next biggest asset forward (AA or APC), fix up anything that needs it, and repeat. It's my secret winning formula.

I'm not a conventional player, when I go infantry I go crazy, I go against any odds and usually for the most treasured and difficult goal (control point). When I'm playing infantry I always find myself isolated and alone way out in front of the team, last night as squad leader I was so deep in the thick of it squad members wouldn't spawn on me. Not sure maybe they were quite happy just clicking up points. So as far as my kdr goes, couldn't care less, winning the round is the goal, not kdr.

Another thing about stats, they're worthless unless you now what map they were scored on. For example a chopper 30:1 ratio on Oman would be pretty awesome, but a chopper 30:1 ratio on Sharqi is just ok.

Just more symptoms of broken balance.

Last night I posted IO score sheets, 1st and 3rd as assault. I can also get 1st as AT on vBF2. Support and medic: easy 1st on IO. Sniper; couldn't do it. Spec ops maybe.

I don't NEED to use armour I CHOOSE to.
Fact is my rank would differ little if I chose to do something else, none of my best round scores are in the tank. My engy / armour / start at the main strategy is low scoring, but I believe it's a need overlooked by most teams.

                  edit:
Back home from work and I've uploaded score sheet playing as AT and only using FAV as transport. Kubra Dam 64 player. Since being labelled an "armour whore" I've been taking a few of these lately.

i dun understand how ppl can say fighting without tanks and apcs and humvees is unrealistic. not that u can compare anything to RL to the fullest extent in this game, its also that if you do have to do a comparison, there is heaps and heaps of situations where in RL the military or sas or sbs or anyother ct task force has gone into areas of conflict by travelling on foot only. and to compare karkland to rL, i really dont think the big *** tanks really suit the map, there should just be apc's and humvees, and i think there should be a blackhawk for both sides, or maybe just usmc <-- this would make the rounds alot shorter as the us can go far into the map and start applying supressing fire from behind the mec's. which mind you is what happens in modern times in rL. something like 1000 middle eastern soldiers to 1 marine sounds about a right ratio to me, well didnt this happen in iraq?

if u and others hate tankers so much then why dont you become excellent at antitank and put them in their place. yea tank/apc may be a extra advantage over Infantry, but an infantry placed in a TOW has a MAjor advantage over a silly old tanker. and a AT, can take out atleast 1 tank efficiently, until they run out of rockets, where the resupply comes into it. plus if theres a medic or two in your squad, you can put infront an amazing opposing force towards a tank, in a lot of cases him jumping out then u or other gunning him down.
tanking is great, but for every means of "stad padding" (which i dont believe it is) there is a way of defeating this. you just have to stop whinging and get some major kills ur self. if u have already done this then u shouldnt have any reason to b i t c h about it.
PS: turnip, seriously nothing personal intended towards you, merely ur post caught my eye and was the first to "quote".. no sweat.

Reading threads like this, I can't help but think that the root of all this objection to IO, is that people (not referring to anyone in particular) take their stats WAY too seriously.

With non-IO BF2, the high scorers (typically, my experience only) at the end of most battles are inside vehicles (though support/medics do decent). Their scores tend to be significantly higher, sometimes obscenely so.

With IO, scores in general are higher, but are closer together. It's almost as if there's anger at more people being able to get good scores at the end of the round instead of the lucky SOB's that grabbed the T90, J10, etc. I think it puts the balance back in the game. Almost every IO round I've played was the opposite of a typical BF2 round, with nearly everyone squadding up. Coordinated attacks on enemy positions, intense firefights, and a few grenade wars (well I guess that would be typical ), no artillery to break up those sniper wars on the karkand bridge, some of the best squad battles I've participated in. The coup de grรขce is that eerie silence.

It's fun and, last time I checked, that's what this game was supposed to be about. This forum should have a medal system for whining...
