I have the 2142 beta, but I haven't seen any ability to taunt and I definitely haven't done it automatically yet. Maybe it won't work until the retail version is out.

You have to OWN the game, not the beta...That is what the official EA link I posted said very clearly. Have a look yet again:

That would be correct, you have to own a copy of BF2142 and since it is not out yet...Read for yourself:
"As a reminder of your heroic efforts in Battlefield 2, we are pleased to announce that you will also be awarded an exclusive Veteran indicator next to your name in Battlefield 2142, so other players will recognize that you’ve had a tour of duty in Battlefield 2. You will also receive an immediate promotion in Battlefield 2142, which will let you choose an unlock. Finally, you will receive a new verbal taunt to use in Battlefield 2. "
And yet in another thread users are reporting hearing laughter. Suggestions are to spot a dead person if you shot them to initiate the laugh. Will chickty check this out.
The taunts are for BF2, I heard them frequently online tonight. Not when I got killed or anything, a squad member was just using the taunts, evil laughs.

This is why I was confused. Either it can be done now or it can't. I haven't had a chance to try things out for myself since I got this new information, but I'm going to hop on right now and see if I can do it. I have everything except I obviously don't have the retail version of 2142.
The taunt is played automatically when you crash to the desktop or get disconnected from the server - it's EA laughing at you. Unfortunately, the code is buggy and you don't get to hear it everytime you or the server crashes.
I just had to roll over and laugh at this one. It's so true!
i heard the taunt1.ogg lately on masthury city as our team was about winning edge over, firstly i thought it was a squadmember but when i recognized that i am on a voip-disabled server. I never heard that taunt before i got my x-fi though i am playing bf2 since its release. So i think its only available with ultra-high sound settings.

These people are possibly schizophrenic and having audio helucinations. It's just these voices.... telling me..... to hurt people....
BF2142 is not out yet. So nobody can OWN a copy of it at the moment. It must work with the combination BF2 and BF2142beta. I heard the taunt twice on Jalalabad.
I only have BF2 installed and the dead-enemy-spotting-thingi doesn't work. I tried it many times.
Maybe the people who produced the taunts that many of us heard are DICE-programmers who try to fool us ;-)
