In all fairness, it's not always about the skill distribution on the team: some people (including myself) are selfish at times and prefer to rely on themselves rather than trust another to take what could be the pivotal shot in the round. I love the independence afforded by the chopper and enjoy being forced into doing well, knowing that I cannot blame anyone else for my mistake(s). It's so much more satisfying to operate it alone and know that your personal efforts are rewarded regardless of what others are doing.

I'm not a bad guy... I just like things to run smoothly and since I lose my temper rapidly, I prefer doing both personally so I can't throw a tantrum at anyone. :)

hehe i find it so amusing.

people everywhere claim how teamwork is important and what all are they doing in effort to make their team win, sacrifices and stuff.

I have played 99.5% of my bf2 time on unranked (or private ranked) servers and only a little fragment on ranked lately.

And there is one thing i learned on ranked servers, there is no f****cking teamwork, except among people that know eachother, ei. clanmates going to same servers.

Same ol' public nubfun [read padding, spamwhoring and Vwhoring] is everything what you find anywhere.

That and only that is the reason i [try] solo. Besides in clanwars, everyone wants to have a good soloist, capable of doing some damage, that way you gain advantage on the ground having one infantry more.

Allow me to add my 2 cents into this discussion.

I've recently started soloing after finding it more difficult to find a competent pilot/gunner. Of course, this is when I'm not with my clanmates and am alone.

Today, I picked up a gunner while I was piloting. He continuously fired the guns from the moment we took off until they overheated . I lined directly up with a tank, spotted the tank, and awaited the TV missile kill. I waited. And waited. And waited some more. I was able to type in chat, "are you going to TV him?" His reply: "what's that?"

Same game, different gunner. Flying to take out armor. Gunner shoots 5 TV missiles randomly at nothing as we fly. I spot armor. Line him up, and call out the spot. He begins using the gun on an Abrams. Until it overheats. I type in, "TV HIM". We are getting shot up bad by passing jets. I go back to repair. He fires 3 TV missiles on the way back to the repair pad.

I'm sure Sloi and other soloists can recount hundreds of tales like this. My point is, If you have a two man crew, one skilled and the other not, if they get shot down your team loses two tickets, period. They will not be revived, so you automatically lose two tickets.

The one argument about letting noobs into the chopper to learn is a fallacy. Practice can/should be done in single player. And since 1.3 AFAIK, you can do it with a buddy. Play Coop, and you both can learn together. Practice, practice, practice!

Some answers:

I have never Tk'd for the helo to go solo. Period.
I have never flown OOB to go solo either.

Now, if people are waiting, I'll get in with them. If I am by myself, I do not wait around until someone shows up. I'm not the best, but I have improved greatly watching Sloi's video. Great narration, and he shows what a skilled soloist can do to help the team. I suggest anyone interested watch it. I'm still waiting for the Cobra tip to descend rapidly though Sloi...

I tried it today, and missile lock does not break while seat-switching.

Now I'd venture a guess to say that even Sloi would agree that soloing is not preferred on some maps. IMO, nothing beats a two man crew in the MEC chopper on Sharqi. I don't believe there's enough armor/helis there to make a difference. However, using that devastating gun to pummel infantry is better served with a two man crew, since it is very difficult to switch seats just to gun for a second or two. Open maps like Oman, Dalian, Daqing are more conducive for soloing.

Having said that, if someone absolutely wants to solo every single round, and tk or go OOB to do it, then there's a problem.

For those who feel it is cheating, please submit his name to BFROE, and they'll determine if he is cheating by a stat wipe.

I can't speak for others, but I will not Tk just to go solo. If I have a crappy pilot/gunner, I just take them up high, and bail on them. I politely type, please practice on single player. Ok, not politely!

Thank you for the kind words! I wanted to make another video on dragon/kubra/gulf in order to show the same techniques on different maps along with more flying tips (and I'm so sorry about forgetting to mention the rapid drop) but playing with Fraps on this system is very difficult. Since there is renewed hatred for soloing, I'll try again... :laugh:

Absolutely true: provided a good pilot is in the heli on sharqi, most gunners can make serious points. Since armor is few and far between, the pilot can usually take care of it with hydras, so no biggie. The problem is evident on open maps with a variety of armor available to all...

i have two solutions:

-remove the ability to switch from pilot to gunner

-give pilot a dumb fire hellfire missile

or

-when you switch seats theres an amount of time before the blade stops spinning, how about if they made it so if you dont get back to the pilot seat in that time, you need a full engine revup to get going again.

Upon leaving the pilots seat, the engine gets shut down immediately and needs a whole new 5 second restart. This is the ultimate fix.

as long as the gunner can recover the chopper, i dont give a damn how or if its fixed.
