Well, as much as I seem to voice opposition to this and that, I do agree there needs to be some leveling for all players. I hate zero tolerance policies and black/white thinking. I feel that we should have a ROE, though at times I fight it mostly because we do not have a clear picture of what the reasoning is behind some of their policies.
EA, whom does not seem to do a great job reaching out to the community, did a horrible job informing the community. I have seen a lot of advertisements when I jump into the game to see "Download Patch 1.22!!!" Well, you know, I have seen the AF ad for several weeks now, and think we should get a link to ROE every now and then. They should be switching out the ad every few days.
In my mind, killing someone's year of work because they spent an hour on a k/p is just overboard, not an eye-for-an-eye. I think there should be repercussions, along the lines of, well, you padded for Knife and pistol points, well, we are going to wipe all your Team Points, and remove all your badges/awards, whatever rank you are at now based on the loss T.Pts, is your new, demoted rank. Or, based on your actions, like you are a notorious baseraper or TKer for planes, they demote you two ranks or knock you down %50 of your Global Score.
Society has gotten soft and weak and like easy policies/laws to enforce. People like to take the path of least resistance, and just clearing a whole table in a database is easier then going into certain fields of SQL to cherry pick what to null.
The accused is not provided the evidence, time, date, place, logs, and screenshots. I have seen some of the descriptions of what people have done and I have to say, well you had it coming, but I don't like the fact they got knocked on their *** for it. Sometimes, a nice hard punch to knock the wind out of you is better then having your teeth broken out.
I am not an advocate for K/P servers by any means. I don't want to encourage it. But don't think nailing people to a cross over it is the right way either.

Rev, you are my favorite mod here, but I have to disagree with ya here. I think the CD/hardware bans should be reserved for the scarlet letter people that hack servers and use aimbots, people that go way out of their way to alter legitimate gaming.
There are levels to breaking the law, and dropping a gum wrapper on the ground should not be grounds to have your bank account cleaned out by law enforcement. But if you rob a bank, you should not get the death penalty, but a fair sentence term. I think Hammurabi had it right in some cases, even if his code is handed down 4000 years ago.
When you purchased BF2 and made your account, you selected "YES" to the terms of agreement. If you had selected "no", then you would not have been able to create a legitimate account and therefore would not be eligable for stat tracking (points/ranks/unlocks/ribbons/medals).
Just because you did not have a 4ft x 8ft laminated copy of the Rules of Engagement hand delivered to your home does not mean you are not bound by them. You agreed to abide by the ROE when you selected yes to create your account.
EA/DICE is under no obligation to provide you with the ROE if you checked "yes" in the terms of agreement. By checking "yes" you told EA/DICE that you have read and understand EVERYTHING mentioned in the terms and that you AGREE to abide by said terms. The ROE were mentioned and referenced and it was up to you to find them and read them BEFORE you agreed to the terms. If you did not, then it is not EA/DICE's fault. I would strongly suggest you not sign any other agreements/documents or contracts without reading everything first. You could wind up in a giant heaping mess in real life.
Bottom line is that if you have a valid account, you agreed to play by the rules. Even if that means you have to go and find said rules on your own.

To be honest, I think the harshness that people feel when stats get wiped for playing in a Knife/Pistol only server is there by design. In order to try and give the whole concept of BF2 and "earning" points for advancement some degree of Reputableness, EA does come down hard on those that subvert the intent of the game. We all know that you can't legislate morality and that there is no honor umong thieves, but if there is a hint of propriety or fairness, then people will compete. Nobody plays any game if they know that everyone else sitting at the table is cheating.(well, Las Vegas ain't closed yet so maybe that theory is off a bit..)
Wiping someone's stats is a great use of the Public Example method of deterring bad behavior.
I am not saying I agree with the methods or motives or results. I am just saying what I am saying.
ok heres my opinion its a story so.. yeah, One day little jimmy went to EB Games to get battlefield 2! he installed 1.3 patch ef and af and away he went! he went into a karkand server. he was on the lil building ext to hotel. his evil commander Commander.Meow dropped a car on it. he thought he could probaley bring it down to to street but it went inside of the building. he found himself in the hotel glitch. and he was a colonal (O_O) Then. he got an email saying ur stats have been erased. ty for giving us ur 190 bucks for the exp and the game and sf now leave. Im sorry Im confused. I see a lot of people who in one statement say they "don't care about the stats" and in another say "Yeah you should get wiped for playing in K/P servers". This is quite hypocritical. You may not care about your stats, but you sure seem concerned with someone else's. I mean really, all this debate is stupid. K/P servers cater to people who may like that type of game play, lose the rank crap and would you still be complaining about it? I doubt it. Matter of fact you would probably be inclined to join for a round or 2, to test your ability with those weapons.
Some of you are saying "Play unranked", well would you play unranked if EA said no more Bombing infantry with planes? I doubt it. How about they take away med bag spamming on ranked and you could get reset for that, would you play unranked? You all with tis answer seem to be missing a crucial point. If it was your desired way of playing would you play the same or move to unranked?
This whole argument is completely absurd. The ROE says you cant limit gameplay, but yet enforces limits on play. A K/P server is just a server, so everyone is using K's and P's and its balanced as long as everyone is using the K's and P's. The only problem with it, is the assumption that people are earning poins and stats that are "unfair?".
So the next time you complain about it, maybe a second look at your motivations are in order. If you are truly uncaring about your stats and ranks, then why dont you play unranked?

If you press the "Play now" button and a K&P server loads blame EA, Dice, both. These servers shouldnt be legal (they are not actually) but it is stuped to punish the users, EA/Dice should take action against these servers not the users. "Ranked" means guarantee that this servers protected from any abuse.... or at least it should mean that

I never have hit the "play now" button. If a knife/pistol server did load up, then that would be bad. Never really thought about that one.
I also am reluctant to believe that EA/DICE won't shut down k/p servers just because of the loss of revenue. I really think that it has more to do with time and manpower. The title of a server is not a good indication of anything as the server owners can use any name they wish. To truly go after those servers, someone would have to join the server and view the gameplay and scores to really know. That is why it is easier to go after the individual players. The stats are kept by EA and if a player gets reported, a simple look up can be done and the stats scrutinized. If the accusations match the stats, bingo!
I do think that if a server gets too many complaints for ROE violations that the servers should be dealt with quicker and removed from the rank system.
In the end, I just think that EA feels that placing enough people on as server police is not fiscally responsible when those people could be doing somthing else like working on BF2142 or Madden 07.

Windows, BF2, CS, etc, once you OK to their EULA, they own you. LOL
As it is, unless you created the software yourself (and this depends on what you created the software with), you do not own it, you have just purchased the right to use it until they say otherwise.
Just use the software to have fun. If you are not having fun, find something else to do.
Getting stats wiped is clearly not discouraging the use of Stat-Pad servers... drawing connections between this and real life is simpe.

He never practices tactics, never learns the dynamics of the game, cant shoot moving targets, doesnt know the maps beyond the Hotel at Karkand, and simply isnt a threat to me.
I played on a Warlord server last night with a 2-star general and a few "Majors" and I could tell which ones were true players from the stat padders who got their ranks the easy way... some of them couldnt shoot their way out of a paper bag... no threat.
The symbol over your head means nothing to me if you are inept... Only time it pisses me off is when one of them gets Commander over me, lol
i personally think it is BS. like ive said before they should target the servers themselves but they wont because the monthly bill buys them a pass. like i said before it is one of the things that is killing bf2. there so many other ways that the BF2 police could deal with u other than reseting ur stats with no warning and no chance to explain urself. cheating is wrong but i can live with it. if u obsess about people who cheat on an online game u should really find something better to do with ur time.
