Re: The Death of a Legacy - Battlefield 1942 - Battlefield 2142
I never said BF2 was not a success. I believe it is a huge success but could be even greater. If EA/DICE opened up BF2 to the mod community I assure there would be thousands and thousands more BF2 copies sold.
I guarantee the money generated would offset the actual cost of development to do this.

You got a point in there...Originally posted by stephensolfonot when u make a mod and chrge for a full game.
But should the community buy this mod? thinking on better made games like Quake Wars? or even on the incomming FH2 for BF2?
So EA is betting on getting the same sucess of BF2 on 2142... I think that wont be the same thing... so probably, 2142 will become the new "BFV" of this era... and we will moving on to BF3 (I hope something WW2 related again)...Leave a comment:

lol, my point in saying that was that EA is a much bigger beast than BF2 or its piddly mods (Full conversions excluded).
They could sell more copies, how many more? Enough to make their profits swell a noticable amount?
Say..... 1000 more copies... would that make any significant impact?
What would it cost them, in man-hours to make the required changes to BF2 that would adequately support the mod community (in your estimation?)
40 hours? 80 hours? Compare that raw cost to the added benefit of a few thousand more copies sold?
I promise, with all my heart, that Electronc (freaking) Arts has teams of business analysts determining ROI (Return on Investment) for making such changes, and if they havent made them there must be a reason. Be it priorities, profitability not being there, something...
In many ways, the fact that these big companies DO ignore the minority of their customers assures that they continue to succeed.
Like it or not, BF2 was a success. Also, BF2142 is almost guaranteed to follow suit...with or without the mods.Leave a comment:

Consultant01,
BF2 is not the only contributing factor to EA's stock performance. If you actually read that article then you would know the following:
"Net loss for the quarter was $81 million as compared with $58 million for the prior year."
Again, I stand by my statements that they could sell more copies of BF2 if they would fully support the mod and single player community.
Seems to me like you need to pull your head out...Leave a comment:

That must be why their stock price at the moment, is within 75 cents of a 52 week high and is up over 7% today alone.Originally posted by FFOLKES

When will those business school rejects in charge of Electronic (Freaking) Arts get their heads out of their butts and realize that 500 people who give a rip about Billy's Blue-Bell Mod can turn their company around...after all, ERTS (EA's stock symbol) is on the verge of collapse...

I liked the post - it reads quite bluntly of the mistakes that never get fixed every single time DICE goes through a new production iteration.
The problem is that we care about this game, how it should have been so much better in so many ways. That's why people post and debate and request change and progress.Leave a comment:

The executives at EA/DICE fail to realize the more they support the mod community the more money they could actually make.
Think about it...if EA/DICE would give full access to all the things the mod community has been requesting since 2005 there would be so many more mods and the number of BF2 copies sold would skyrocket.
As stated in the original post, it's EA's failed business/marketing decisions that have caused the BF2 to suffer. Not only have they allowed/forced DICE to release a game riddled with bugs but also they failed miserably in supporting the mod and single player community.

The Battlefield series is not dying and most definetly will not unless 2142 is absolutely awful.Leave a comment:

The author has done a great job, even though I tend to dissagree with the conclusion.
There seem to be many ppl here who have the same opinion. I think I'm also going to get me one BF2142 even though initially I was opposed to the idea of future warfare and would have preferred something like the Pirates mod is introducing to BF2. But since I became my clan's news editor and have closely followed the news releases, I've actualy grown a fond of it and can't wait to (al least) try out the demo version.
So many seem to be demanding perfection however what is perfect in one's eyes could be total bull in another's. I don't think that there are many things in the world that are perfect for everyone (I can't think of any at the moment so any input is welcome).
I haven't had any major problems playing the game and I like it, maybe too much since spending 400 hours on a game does sound a bit over the line (i know, i know, many of you have served under the EA rule for a lot longer, but i'm talking from my own perspective). What has bothered me is the gameplay adjustments I had to get used to after the game was patched. I did get a little bit flamed at EA for removing squadhopping (we had to redo our whole clan play) but it seems that has remained optional, some servers have it some don't. The loading screen actually should show more information, i.e. ff on mines and claymores. When I start playing sniper i usually test my own claymore to see whether it has ff turned off or not.
Most of the "problems" in the game are caused by players, others see those acts (whatever they might be) as problems since they cannot match them, C4 chucking for example. I hope that headshots are not removed for that same reason. I never really got a hang of the C4 thing, but then again I like a slower rate of gameplaying.
I wonder what are the constant complainers doing about real life? Real life is full of "bugs" and "glitches" and those who abuse them. (take the legislation for example) Most people adjust themselves to it and well those that don't, well they probably lead frustrated lives complaining. I use the same idea in BF, I just try to adjust to what takes place and not work myself up over it and enjoy the game.
So PPL, get over it! DICE developers are also only human (i'm not one of them, DICE developers that is) and I'm pretty sure that the more popular issues (red-nametag, AT passing through vehicles, etc) have been addressed but no solution has been found.Leave a comment:

The games are still incredibly fun and thats really all I care about. And it really isnt fair for ppl who have hundreds of hours played to claim they were ripped out of 50 dollars, but oh well.
Your thoughts about 1.4 are incorrect, they have fixed the crashing bug and I havnt CTD'd since using it. My gameplay as a whole is a lot smoother. The Beta 2 only improved on Beta 1.Leave a comment:
