I dont see myself buying 2142 TBH....

I do however like the "booster" pack idea they came up with.... I would rather spend 9 bucks on an add-on to the game then 20 or 30 on a "expansion" that you cant keep playing from one map to the next in a free flowing manner (ya know playing Warlord then going to Karkand)...

Too bad 98% of people say they will bu 2142 even if bf2 isnt fixed.

I wont either unless bf2 IS fixed.

MOD support is a huge undefined blob of a problem for BF2. I suspect all or most of those issues will evaporate once the final (read 1.4) patch for BF2 is out and BF2142 is released.

You lost me when you talked about BFV going dead in the water....

EA/DICE did in fact release extra content and maps with BFV and shame on you for not mentioning POE for BFV more, they gave us the taste before BF2 came to the scene...

While I agree with much of what you wrote and found the reading to be pleasant, I will say that the BF series is far from dead however I ma a bit perplexed about them moving into the sci-fi genre...

Their is still plenty of conflicts and wars to make games off of that have happened in the past 50 years....

The BF series really has fueled the fire of a new genre in video games, that of the First Person War....Since the BF games, Operation Flash Point, and all associated mods bring more to the FPS table then, well FPS....Quake, Hal-life, Doom, and so on are real First Person Shooters (I'm talking multiplayer) since they have a lack of a huge environment in which to duke it out with guns, tanks, trucks, planes, choppers, and more....

Bottom line the BF series will always be great games....

With over 26 thousand servers in the US alone I dont see this game dissappearing anytime soon...

Oh and I'm a proud admin/supporter of a UNRANKED custom maps server....

Miss it, it's still around and free up until rank 6

I like these ideas but they begin to make it more MMORPG like, something I don't know if I care for in my FPS menu.....

Very well written, I mostly agree with what you said. I look back at BFV and miss that style of gameplay and its MODs.

With BF2, i dont know, but its a different feeling. Its been more than a year now and no mod has come out with a total conversion. And now that 2142 is going to come out in the fall, MODs such as POE and FH2 will not have that much of a player base.

Look at USI. When it first came out, there were a ton of people playing. Servers will always full, but once AF booster came out, it died. I really do think EA is doing this on purpose, not supporting the MOD community and deliberatly trying to attract the players back to the original game.

Look at the time line. BF2 in june, SF in November(not too sure, but somewhere there), EF in March and AF in June. Any mod that could have come out during that time spawn would of died. And now 2142 in the fall.

Moreover, Its genious, the game is RANKED. Buy the booster with new weapons, and guess what that is ranked too. People love to play all night long for an unlock or a badge. I think this primarily killed the MODS.

But i hope i'm wrong, since i want to see POE and FH2 prosper and stick it to EA.

for all of those with the "im not buying 2142 till they fix bf2" attitude you better wake up because once 2142 is out all attention will be on that game and bf2 will not be forgotten but i expect support for it to highly decrease so i dont think they will be making more "fixes" for it and there for if you wont buy 2142 or play bf2 until they "fix" it then you better forget about it. besides once it comes out im sure more thatn one of those " i wont buy 2142!!!" guys eventually will. lets not lie to ourselves, EA is like a hot slutty girl, she keeps cheating on us but we still insist on loving her.

MMOFPS along the spectrum of planetside with BF2 graphics(or hell BF:V graphics) would be ground breaking. Planetside was great, but I just cant find myself to get back into it as it seems....outdated, the gameplay seems no longer fun for me. The one thing though I would request that the game not go...too far into the future as I would love to play it but Im not the biggest futuristic fan.

Oh and PLEASE make it moddable, I know that making a game easily moddable is not the priority of most game developers, but I think in the long run it would make you customers respect you alot more and maybe even enough to continue buying your products....ya know

Also I want to see the mod that has all the big aircrafts in it that most mod teams said were too big for BF2 style maps :)

    Topic bumped :P

I say "2142 will be a Joke" not for the theme (pew! pew! laser guns :P ), I say is a joke cause is a mod of a handicap game... so I might be stupid if I complain all the day about BF2 and then, next week I buy BF2142 on the stores next to my house..

For me is a Joke because they are sellling the old cow as a brand new stalion. I hope the community is not that stupid.

If the futuristic theme is not your tasts, dont buy it, but dont hate the company for doing something you dont enjoy, that strikes me as unreasonable. I respect your opinion and the last time I checked, you will be given a chance to voice your disapproval by not buying it.

While we are off-topic can you bump this topic for me?

I want to see if this kid got his game workin with my suggestion but I cant double-post...

    Thanks.

Also, making an MMOFPS based on an actual period in history leaves too many dead ends.... the war only lasted X years, and time on an MMO is typically compressed a great deal... then you run into the political issues surrounding a simulation of a war based on such things as the holocaust... what if the nazis "win"? fictional MMORPGs are much more doable because the conflicts are either imaginary (the Pan Asian Coalition) or fantasy (Orcs and Gnomes). At least, thats my opinion.

My money is on a 2007 release of BF3, The MMOFPS.

Take Planetside and BF2 and BF2142, mix em in a blender till the lumps are gone and the masses will flock.

Charge a subscription fee, around $9/month and give us a semi-fictional world based on the BF2142 globe/territories and we will be battling with the enemy for land that persists across time...

BF3 won't be "Just another BF game"..... I bet that BF3 is a serious shift in BF paradigm [sic]
Planetbattlefield.com thinks that too.. (planetbattlefield ==> Gamespy), for me is preatty sure.. but the theme is no clear yet (that's why im hoping to get a new WWII game... but MMOFPS ...)...

I dont want to THINK what kind of problems the community will encounter on BF3... programing a MMO game is far more complicated than a plain FPS, more variables, more ways to cheat, etc...

But, back on subject, FH2 probably will be THE mod (along with pirates) that will keep BF2 on the stores and on server sales... 2142 will be a Joke.

If it only offsets it then the incentive is not there.

They could have charged $50 for SF, called it a sequel and sold much fewer copies and broken even as well...

They arent looking to "offset costs", they are a giant company, they are looking to maximize profit and I bet their stock in BF2 is all but cashed out.

Dont expect patches beyond 1.4 unless some game-breaking bug slips its way past.
