    Re: BF2 Freezes

It seems that, yes, the problem has started happening to us since monday the 24th of july. I'm still waiting on EA to call me back but here is the Email they sent me in its entirety:

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Technical Support.

Please try first to refresh your profiles for the game:

Go inside My Documents and look for a Battlefield 2 folder
Right click on the folder and select Cut, and Paste the folder on the desktop
Try to run the game again, this time the game would ask to try to make a new account or retrieve it
Click on Retrieve Account and type in the E-mail address that you used to make your BF2 account.
Try to go into a server

Please also send us the information about your computer. Please send this information from a program called dxdiag.exe. To do this:

    · Go to Start -> Run.
    · In the box, type the following: dxdiag
    · Click "OK"
    · Click the "Save All Information" button on the first screen of the application.
    · Then on top of the "Save As" box that pops up, select Desktop (if it's not set to save there already), then click Save.
    · Finally, attach the dxdiag.txt to your email reply.

After we receive this file we can continue troubleshooting the issues at hand and hopefully come to a solution.

      Re: BF2 Freezes

I already sent them my dxdiag output, as well as tried to run from a fresh profile directory like they asked you to do. They emailed me today and gave me the next step in what is an expected line of steps for general troubleshooting, to disable all unneccesary services and try again, blah blah blah. Eventually we'll run out of steps and they'll have to actually adress the problem...I hope.

I've been doing a little more digging from my desk at work and It seems that a punkbuster update coincides with the freeze and disconnect issue quite nicely. unfortunately as of right now there is still no fix, can some one test this by trying to play on a multiplayer server that is not running punkbuster and tell us if it freezes still? I'd do it myself but I'm at work. thanks in advance.

I read in another thread that someone tried this, and in fact can play on non-PB enabled servers. I think it's fairly obvious at this point that this is a PB problem.

            Re: BF2 Freezes

I have started another thread ( in just about ervery BF2 forum I could find ) about this issue . It does coincide with the punkbuster update and to check this you can join the ']GOD[ multiplay server' as it is still running the last version of PB and you will be able to stay on the server .

I have a support ticket in with evenbalance since yesterday but no reply as yet .

Finally it looks like we hit the nail on the head, and it does in fact appear to be Punkbuster, thanks for clearing that up infiniteloop and [BTC]Jonski. I had a feeling looking at the date of the update on PB's website but wanted to confirm it before saying that was what it is. question now is what are they going to do about it? and what can we do about it? Just FYI, Manually updating punkbuster wont do a damn thing, we are talking about the latest version for those of you who did not read this thread in it's entirety, well, I guess we will just have to sit and wait now for them to pull their heads out and fix this

                Re: BF2 Freezes

Maybe we could try to find the common denominator that is stopping us from playing while others can .

                netopia 3347 modem
                gigabyte GA-K8N-sli
                onboard lan
nforce4 chipset drivers , including lan driver .

Yeah there has to be something similar between systems with this problem, since not everyone is having the issue. Could be rather difficult to nail that down though

Of the 4 things you listed, I have none of those.

List your routers maybe? I have a d-link DI-524 router.

Don't have a router, using the dsl modem that came from my provider. Will update with model number when I get home.

I have a lynksys router but I ran bf2 without it hooked up, It's the PB update, It could be a multitude of things, I'll be more than happy to help with input but I anticipate a fix by punkbuster to be released very shortly, probably making this effort unnecessary.

                          Re: BF2 Freezes

I just wanted to chime in with my problem, like all of yours.

                          My System
                          AMD 3800+ NewCastle
                          3gb Corsair XMS
                          6800Ultra
                          74gb Raptor sata
                          250gb maxtor sata
                          SB Live! soundcard
                          Winxp sp2 all hotfixes

What happens with mine is after i choose my gun and actually get in the game it freezes. Locks the computer and I have to power down and restart. What happened with me is my comp crashed and I did a new install. After the install it was not working. After updating all the drivers it still didnt work till I installed the drivers for the CPU and it was working and I played for an hour. I just got Special Forces and installed that, then reinstalled the patch and got the game working, but once I choose my gun and got in game it froze.

Seems like there are 2 different problems. Some of us are getting froze in game and have to power down, others freeze for a minute and get kicked out of the game. So frustrating when you spend money on supporting a game and it doesnt work.

I have this problem ('connection lost') and can confirm that I am able to play in non-punkbuster servers.

24th? Hmm, I am not sure about the start of this problem but I eagerly await to hear what MOBB finds out. Because if he spoke to a rep and they know of the problem being more than just a few of us then maybe he can kick something back when he finds out. I was tempted to call support before but wanted to see if anyone else had anymore info. Thanks. Hope we all get this worked out.--Just nice to know we're not alone.
