                Re: BF2 Freezes

I started having the same problem a couple of days ago, game would freeze after a few seconds, forcing me to hard reboot. But then it got worse, I hard rebooted and it came up with a message: 'boot from CD' and there was nothing I could do to make it boot from the HD. The only way I could get my comp up and running was to format the hard drive and reinstall windows. I decided to give BF2 another go, thinking it would be fixed now that I'd reformated. The comp crashed again, and the same message appeared when I tried to reboot and I was forced to reinstall windows.

Can anyone suggest what could cause this? I daren't test BF2 now that they say the problem is fixed because its not just a simple crash. Help would be appreciated.

Well I am very impressed with Evenbalance , I just tried it there and all was good .

Did they give any indication as to what originally caused the problem ?

                    Re: BF2 Freezes

I tried playing last night - 7/26 - at 8pm and the problem remained. Has this problem been fixed since then and if so, is it an automatic hotfix that will be pushed to the client?

                        Re: BF2 Freezes

Gimpy, you dont need to download anything by the sound of it, just try a PB enabled server & it should work now.
The problems where somehow linked to the latest PB update that happened Monday

Capt Hides, you tried any other games, both single player & multiplayer? and have you reinstalled upto date drivers for Directx, graphics, etc?

                          Re: BF2 Freezes

All my drivers, directx, etc. were all up to date the second time I'd tried it as I had just reformatted and installed all the new drivers. I tested out Rome Total War on fairly high graphics settings and it worked fine. It seems like I've been having the same problems as everyone else, but something extra has gone wrong.

Just tried mine out and it worked like a charm I am glad the folks over at PB fixed this fairly quickly.

Dont need to download anything just start playing on a PB enabled server

I would say your issues may be beyond what BF2 could be causing. Sounds like perhaps you have some hard drive errors. Either some bad sectors or the drive may be failing. Run the windows scan disk to try and repair it, and I would also run a diagnostic tool from the HD manufacturer.
