I'd like a few things. First, on each chopper, can you show us where the rockets land and where your default TVM curser is positioned? It will help a lot in solo flying. Also, I'd like to see some good ways of using your agility, or useful tips like don't show your broadside to the enemy, as you've already brilliantly demonstrated. I think that's all for now.

If you want to see where the rockets land, just get up in an empty server and test them out. Best tip I ever got in helo dogfighting, get higher than your enemy, the rest is history.

Thanks Sloi, I'm kinda getting tired of ground pounding and thinking on buying a joystick to start flying more. Thanks for making that Vid, Very useful.

I am going to watch the second when i get home.

The techniques and comments shown in this video are presented to help the pilot who is either unable to find a gunner to fill the seat or cannot enlist the aid of a competent one in times of need.

Armed with the knowledge and ability to fill both positions, you may end up giving your team the edge necessary to win (not only can you perform both duties well, but you also allow your team another infantryman to help capture flags).

Finally, it's just plain fun. I suggest you lighten up a bit
Did the video show you C4ing the area around the heli pad so you could hog the helicopter? Tsk. Cringe-worthy.

The hydra shots are mostly practice and depend mainly on speed + angle. :)

Unfortunately, you are wrong: they do and I routinely prove it on FHM and other servers when I get one for myself. The problem is, you RARELY CAN acquire a helo for solo flight in full servers, which automatically stops me from making this video. In order to do it, I have to find a...

              1- fast server with
              2- a 64 player map and
3- a moderate amount of people to increase my chances of having a solo heli.

              I hope you understand.

Your tactics ONLY worked due to the large map and sparse population. Had there actually been a sizeable amount of people playing, you wouldn't have been able to pull off even a quarter of the shots you demonstrated. IGLAs, FAVs and those J10s would have been all over you during those TV shots.

FAVs, IGLAs are routinely trying to take me down during shots, the trick is to FLARE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE doing your TV shot. Once taken and if necessary, take evasive action. J10s or other jets ? Unless they can take me down in one or two passes (which is usually only when my team has no jets in the air), it won't happen. More often than not, they ram into me...

I can't convince you that what I do there works everywhere else, but if I ever get the chance to solo in a full server, I will gladly film it.

Don't get me wrong, you demonstrated control of the copter and decent strafing ability, but hovering 2-300 ft up and simply spamming Hellfires (Hellfires are TV missles, Hydras are the 8 unguided mini rockets, a mistake you made during your commentary a few times, you got the two mixed up) is far from combat flying.

I was told about the naming mistake and I apologize for it. I would like you to define "combat flying" for me, as it seems like (according to you) I'm not engaged in combat or appear to be flying. Are you saying a sniper isn't engaged in combat because he's doing so from afar ?

Really would be interested in seeing those TV shots made when the server had a full team, rather than 15-16 people on a 64 player map. We'll see how good your situational awareness is then

The only difference is free time in between things to do. In the video, I was often aimlessly flying around with nothing to do BECAUSE of the low amount of players, but this is easily remedied in busier servers. My techniques/patterns don't change: only how many evasive maneuvers and repairs/reloads I must do.
              My comments are in bold.

Correct me, but isn't it harder to change from pilot to gunner and shoot TV-missiles if you're using joystick?

Re: Heli crew: I want your input.

first: good video. mad props to you for not editing out your misses/bad choices and just giving us all your perfect stuff. i get so sick of those. this i think is the first video i've watched all the way through.

second: did you speed it up at all? i'd swear it seems about 10% faster, tvgms seem to fly faster, hellfires seem to kill a bit quicker, etc. a side effect of fraps? or did i just drink too much mtdew this morning?

third: how do you switch to tvgm mode so fast? for me it's F2, right click, left click. even if i spam all that quickly, my game doesn't seem to catch up. it takes me a second or so, you seem to almost click once and bam your tv is out and going... wth? is it just you have a $10K computer and it all switches fast enough?

fourth: i agree with finding more peeps to show a more realistic pub. sure your tactics will work on a larger scale too. however, seeing them in action with more people will show just how much harder it is to track 32 enemies all at once. decisions end up being more of guesswork/artform based on probability versus full situational awareness. i liked hearing you talk out your decisions and what was going through your mind in this video though. but i want to see/hear similar in more complicated scenarios also.

thx again sloi. good to see a realistic video out there.

oh a last minute comment: about your evasion tactics. it's cool you can do flips and all, but seriously i don't notice the difference between when i flip and when i don't. do you seriously claim flips help improve your odds? i just flare and go to target that which fired at me. i almost always get them first. i've still got a personal opinion flips are for people that think they are better than they really are :P i have yet to incorporate them into my technique for lack of proof they are worth it. they seem more chaotic and uncontrolled than a simple flare and reaim. you didn't do anything to nutso, but still, seems overkill?

Its not, for him. Hes using an old, ****ing old 3 button mouse you were using when you were 5  . Man, I have one of those in my cupboard, and playing with them truly is a "WTF stuation".

Hes also using an old PS2 keyboard which blocks with 3 key presses. I just recently used one of those and it was a B*TCH!

As for switching from JS to mouse. Its not that bad, you just have to keep the target more to the right.

Great video, I really liked it, I have never really seen any solo pilots do well. One question though, whenever I go from pilot to the gunner seat (in cobra) so the pilot seat is left empty, the chopper takes a pretty hard right and starts spinning right, I can leave the seat perfect level and it still does it, any suggestions?

You know some of you little kids need to quit criticizing him. He made this video as an informative piece for others; not be be bashed upon by you immature 10 yr olds, "Let's see you do that in a 64 player server, etc etc" Grow up man, he made this video to show people different strategies on Dalian with an attack chopper. There ARE people out there who do not know how to fly choppers very well, me being one of them, this video was fantastic.

THANK YOU! You have my support for any other upcoming vids.

It's all original speed. Perhaps fraps and the encoding program sped it up?

                            Practice. :)

I'll get my friend to capture that video: I basically press F2 and right-click simultaneously, with the latter just a fraction of a second after and then I left-click frantically while re-positioning the crosshair accordingly.

Yep, I completely agree. My next video will be on Dragon Valley, so what I'll do is try to play on BOUNTY HUNTERZ: 32 players (usually almost always full) on the 64-player version, so I should get plenty of action in return for a good chance to get a helo to myself depending on the players there that night.

thx again sloi. good to see a realistic video out there.

As for the evasive maneuver, well... in my experience, jet pilots usually get confused when you spin around like that: couple this with the fact that you lose altitude rapidly and what you get is a recipe to make the jet pull out before making another pass. Basically buys you time, but you're correct when stating that it isn't necessary.

It will always begin auto-rotating, so don't worry about it. If you want to avoid rotation at the cost of losing altitude and (possibly) heading towards the ground rapidly, just tip your nose bottom-left before entering the TV screen. Just be mindful not to attempt it in low-altitude lest you will kiss the ground...
