I've decided to make an uncut video in a "Director's Commentary" mode: basically, I will take you through everything that I do during solo flight in an attack helicopter, such as patterns, priorities, how and why I do certain things, et cetera.

I would like to know which map you want me to use for the purpose of this video: afterwards, I will get used to flying around with fraps and record it. I will try and limit the length to 20 minutes, re-encode it for size and add my voice commentaries to the track.

Finally, if there are certain things you wish me to do during flight, let me know and I will add them in my routine, along with the necessary explanations. I think this video will give me a chance to better understand why I fly the way that I do along with conveying some of my knowledge and experience to both novice and advanced soloers.

One tip:

GET A DEDICATED GUNNER! DONT FLY THE CHOPPER ALONE!

Two players ALWAYS works better than just one. When pubbing, people get very ****ed when someone take the chopper all by them selves, no matter how good they are. There is a reason why there are two seats in the chopper.

I suggest you use all maps, looking at different tactics in each map.

The purpose of this video is to help increase the skill required for successful use of the helicopter when a gunner cannot be used, regardless of the reason.

Naturally, I will be selecting a 64-player server with approximately 20 players to increase my chances of finding an unused helicopter to record this video. As for your suggestion, I'm thinking that it might be a good idea: I can make 5 minute segments, basically giving me a chance to cover the entire area before moving on to another map.

Sloi, dont pay attention to people asking for a "crew" video. Its way too hard, and requires actually two people talking in the same time, plus recording of the audio conversation and a split screen mode, so you view the gunner and the pilot at the same time. Plus the narration from both sides (BTW- its a hint for an ULTIMATE chopper video).

If you solo, and talk, you give us a perfect perspective from a chopper crew through one players eyes. Looking forward to the video.

So far, I'm thinking Dragon Valley will be the best map for this video: easy access to helos, medium/hard TV shots through the fog and obstacles/cover for use during flight. I'll get the necessary stuff ready...

Any advice on which settings to configure for Fraps prior to recording ? I want as smooth of an experience as possible to help make this video properly. :)

As long as there wont be much heavy stuttering its going to be OK. I dont mind if you set graphics lower. Im more interested in watching the technical side of the video, rather than the scenery. Just talk sense, talk simple, and talk sexy, and its all good.

Run it at 100fps, and then, half-size, or full-size. doesn't matter.

Just make sure to record to another HD that the game is loading from...
Preferably on another IDE or SATA channel...

My hardware isn't as good as I thought for Frapping, but I've managed to adjust. I have 15 minutes of Dalian Plant footage as a Chinese helo: not my choice of spawn, but I manage to get good footage for you guys.

I'll make the commentary track tonight and put it through adobe premiere, see how it shrinks down: as it stands, I have 3.2 gigs of fraps but in my experience, it drops down a good 90%. Would google video accept a 300-500MB file ?

What's the best video encoder?
