Keeping the enemy helo down from a distance would still be quite easy if you learn to click the right pixels early.

Instead of reducing the TV missile's range, they could just increase the AA missiles range, so that AA can shoot a little bit further than the TV missiles. Then the helos can't always take out the AA guns without any risk before entering the area. Usually your own helo pad is protected by AA, so this could actually help the "who shoots down the enemy helo first wins" issue in competetive matches.

Well, provided they fix the AA at the same time fair enough.

Real life attack chopper range = 3 to 6kms.
Real life AA range = 3 to 8kms.

8 kms is too long for the map sizes so what about 1/3rd of real life range for both?

        APACHE

Ah I'm such a stupid perfectionist wish I never posted this..
        You are a *stupid* perfectionist.

You might want to check out BF2:Special Forces, there is an AH-64D Longbow Apache in it. Odds are pretty good that is what everybody means when they say Apache on the totalbf2 forums. duh?

Just happens to be my favorite helo in the game. :-)

I already know it's in Special Forces.. That's why I'd said "Wish I never posted this" because I already knew that some random guy would flame me and said blah blah bladie blah blah blah about that and then the flaming will begin.. Not intended to hurt you or something or that you will flame me back I just noticed it on wake often..

Were a lot of (usually) privates and some higher ranks will say " Hey let' s get the Apache." My Fav. Chopper is still the Super Cobra fast and the TV'S make it deadly.. but less armor...

You do know that the game isn't 100% realistic, I mean I shoot you in the head with the pistol and your not going to die are you?, and if I jump off a small building, say the construction site building in Sharqi my parachute works fine, do it in real life and see what happens .

The game isn't 100% realistic, but that point im getting at is, on Smoke Screen there is AA at the Wind farm, now no matter what team your on, you can easily be busted up by the AA, for instance I was on EU, and I was gunner but my pilot seemed to just not care swooping down to the AA then hovering above it. So we died, so I took the chopper, by myself and took out the AA, but it can be a pain because it can be hard to hit the AA if the commander isn't spotting it and if you go too close you get killed by it, so if the TV missile had a longer distance, I could fire from a distance and hit the AA before it can even get close to the chopper.

              Re: TV Missile distance

The AA missile range is fine, that isn't the problem with AA. The problem is the target acquisition range, at least when dealing with planes. I think the AA is fine for helicopters, especially in the armored fury maps where most AA sites are overlapping and there is an abundance of mobile AA.

I also think TV Missile distance is fine.

People need to stop saying "in real life", or "realistic", or "realism". BF2 is an action game, one that doesn't even come close to falling in the 'sim' genre, much less accurately model "reality".

In reality, you can't magically sprout from your squadleader's ass after you die and shock paddles don't do much when you're laying in one spot and your legs are about 30 feet away.

No, I am pretty sure the distance is 450 m. Try to line yourself against a flag and fire a missile straight towards it.

Now, AA is already cheap the way it is now. No more nerfs for helos please.

um name one helicopter pilot complaining about the choppers being too powerful. thats total bs. other than the j10's, everything in the game is balanced except skill and knowledge of one thing over another.

Well if you wanna read some different thoughts from people in the CAL just read this thread here:

What about explaining WHY it would be wrong if the AA would have the same range (or even a little bit more) than the TV missile?

yup i got owned. although its only two guys complaining about its power, its mostly the glitching that theyre discussing, tvs double reloading and tvs being duds that just fly str8, and tvs going str8 through targets.

                          Re: TV Missile distance

There are different opinions there, just as there are different opinions here, that's fine. I just wanted to point out that there ARE chopper pilots who say: "The TV missile is still too powerful!" And they're right IMHO. On public servers it doesn't really matter most of the time. There are jets to shoot the helos down etc. But in competition matches on the smaller 16 player maps, where both sides have only 1 attack chopper (or even only 1 chopper for the whole map like Dalian Plant 16), they totally dominate the match, because it's very very easy to stay out of the range of the few AA sites (while still being able to destroy them).

Well I am still interested in an answer to the following question:
Why would it be so bad if the AA had the same range (or even more) than the TV missile? Does the helicopter really need that cheap "I can kill you but you can't kill me" advantage? Is that really balanced? I don't think so....

I also like the cobra the most....it's maneuverability sets it apart from the others....although there isn't too much difference between it and the Z10 (PLA chopper).

I think that is why the Mi-28 (MEC chopper/flying billboard) has such a destructive anti-infantry cannon...its maneuverability (or lack there of) is horrific, and it balances it out.

I'm pretty happy with the reduced distance of the wire guided missiles. You no longer have to worry about helos that think it's fun to fly at 500m and you have be pretty close to baserape. It also puts single pilots/gunners at a disadvantage because they can't back out of range. I'd say it's the best balancing job EA has done so far.
