A pilots job is to support ground units, a flyboys should be doing this rather than steaming in head first. They should be responsive to squads and the commander where bombing is concerned and be covering air units. At present few rarely do this, they just spend the whole map bombing everyting left right and centre with no co-ordination with the main land force. That is fact.

"hey guys, Im approaching, bombing in 15, dont move in yet"
    "roger that, One"
"ok, done, good luck, Ill be on stand by"
    "ok man"

Ive had this so many times... Ive done this so many times. Good pilots can make so much more fun. And seriously, you have to forgive for a misdropped bomb, sometimes people do this in their best intentions.
Yea this is something like how it should be done, but it rarely is. Anyone who seriously think this is a common place needs to spend less time camping the jet spawn and more time on the ground taking flags.

if a pilot goes 45-1 in a jet, he's helped your team a lot. That's 45 tickets he bled from them.

    That's what wins rounds, tickets.

You should want the best pilot to be in the air, killing everything he can, makes it much easier on the rest of the team when there's fewer enemies making it bases (or off the carrier)
You are wrong, another jet fan boi who isnt seeing the bigger picture. The game is about team work and diffrent specialities combining in skill to over come the enemy. Killing does indeed take the enemy ticket ratio down, but what happens if your whoring has left your team defensless and flagless which OFTEN happens in servers? You can have all the kills you in your jet but unless your team mates keep the flags and capture new ones, or you can kill the enemy around 300 times without dieing yourself, you are knackered.

Its a fact, that while there are a small minority of genuinely good pilots who do use the aviation units correctly, the majority of users dont give a flying sh!t about ther rest of their team and may as well not be on it. They only contribute by making easy kills, spawn raping dropping bombs on occupied flags, which btw takes tickets off your own team thus helping the enemy.

This was my original point, whereas you could say that many specialities are greatly abused, in my opinion it is the jets that are the most mis-used vehicle/speciality. I cant see how anyone other than jet padders themselves can argue , and even their argument is waifer thin - "urh more kills = winning" - duh try winning without flags, and get it into your head that all those TK's u make when bombing your own flags to kill the one enemy, or tking your team mates to get the jets, help your opponants ticket ratio, noobs!

My apologies to the few team players, I'm not targeting any individual here, so if your back is up and you are on the defensive, maybe its because I struck a chord with my rant.

    lol

Now this isnt simply because I get killed way too many times by jet pilots either bombing me into the ground repeatedly at a spawn, or even machine gunning me down from over a kilometer away, its not even the fact that they are dificult to counter measure on many maps because of the lack of decent mobile AA guns. This hatered goes much deeper. To me they compeltely spoil the game because so many bloody people try to use them to stat pad their own scores and say to hell withthe rest of the team.

Many of these "leet" pilots will do anything to get in a bloody jet, and if you by some fortuante chance are the first person in one at the start of a map you can certainly expect to be TKed by one fo these uber leet pilots who considers themselves to be much better than you, therefore must kill you to take the jet from you. . Failing that, you can expect some nob end to throw themselves in front of you to make u TK them so they can punish you. Or their other bitter favourite trick is to C4 your jet and let u take off b4 detonating! The 4 points they lose as punishment doesnt matter as they will soon be earnign more points once they are in t he sky.

Most jet pilots will do ANYTHING to get to the jet spawn point:-

      - TK
      - Taking the teams only tank to use to get to the jet spawn point
      - Using the only transports to get there
      - blowing up someone elses jet to get it to respawn.
      - Taking the attack chopper to get to the enemies air strip
      - Ignore the enemies flags in order to get the 'Holy' J10
      - Ignoring commander/squad leader orders in order to go get the jet (and usually takign the squads onyl mode of transprot to make their journey quicker, and to mow down their team mates who are also trying to do the same thing!)

Initially they join a squad, usuall the biggest squad or the squad withtheir mates in. Oviously this is a waste of time becuause they wont be taking orders from their squad leader and cant capture flags if they are in their jet! Their own spin on squad orders is much better, they have their own ideas as to how they can contribute to the squad. When the squad leader is instructing people to get to a flag he obviously doesnt mean the guy int he jet, he obviously want this jet guy to "help the team" by killing the guys spawning on the enemies main base.

If they went in their own suad this would be more useful as at lest the commander could TRY to order them to objectives. But these guys know better than any commander or squad leader anyway, they can win this battle on their own so no orders will be relevant to them.

Once the typical BF2 jet fighter is in the air, particuarly on maps like wake when they are the chinese, they see it as their dutry to stop the enemy getting to the main island, taking all their teams share of the kill points, meaning that the other 99% of their team are left stranded on the island with nothing to do because the jet pilots are taking all the kills by spawn raping the enemy. However spawn raping doesnt apply to them, its only the commanders who arent allowed to attack the opposition main base! By taking out the enemy they are ensuring the team wins, it doesnt matter if everyone else is resigned to sitting at an empty with nothing to do.

Once a full on battle is underway you would think this would be where the aviators shine and they would do their team duties and help their team by at least attacking their squad leaders objective flags. They would be a great asset if they were used to clear the way for the land bourne attack force, taking out all the enemy troops, gun emplacements or more importantly heavy armour at the objective enemy flag But alas, no, once they are in the air there is just one way of bumping their score and that is spawn raping! The best way to really rack up the points and improve on that frag rate and win some awards is to attack the enemies main airstrip base, especially if the enemy is the US and on the carrier.

Repeatedly flying over their air strip will almost cerainly meant you get to take out the enemy who are also not contributing to their team by camping the jet and chopper spawns.

Occasionally the typical jet pilot does lend out a helping hand and drops a bomb on your intended flag ,... while you are taking it, thus killing your entire squad in one fatal sweep. Sometimes they do give the "sorry, my bad" call sign but usually they dont.

You and your team respawn, at your main base, however theres an enemy tank there spawn raping your team! You eventually find cover and you are down to you last bar of health! Sureely this is a job for the Iron birds - they can swoop in and take this steel beast out with one swift bombing campaign!

You call in your "maverick", point out the armor,
      "enemy armor spotted"
      ..... nothing, maybe he's resupplying...
      ....you wait
,.....your flag is starting to go
      ..........."enemy armor spotted".........
      still nothing
.......................you finally have to risk being slottted while defensless and typing a message to your pilots:-

"can you guys come bomb the enemy tank, we are pinned down and losing our flags fast"

      ......

      no reply.

      You try again

      "HEY PILOTS<>> CAN YOU CO...."

mid sentance you are knifed by the tank driver who has finally captured the flag and given up waiting for you to come out of your hiding place.

So the inevitible happens and your team are now losing, you are down to your last flag and the enemy are bombing and artying the hell out of your last base, your team are unlucky enough to be losing badly. God know how they would be losing with the "king of the sky" on their team ::), but if they are. Its at this point you need every man in your team to attack a flag, your airstrip is long gone and your flyboys are all out of ammo.

Surely these guys to birdman to an undefended flag and quickly capture it to get the guys whoa are dead back into the game, aren't they? No one could be that dumb, stubborn or selfish could they? No it's not that its just that these guys have an even BETTERr plan, they will fly around the map, until everyone on their team is dead. That way the opponants cant get them, unless they get in a jet, and there is NO WAY the opposition are as good as them in a jet, not a chance, not even when they themselves have no ammo! So they then proceed to fly around the map for about 10 minutes while their dead comrades sit bored looking at a rubbish team score and cursing their twat pilots.

The game is over but these guys refuse to be killed, they are true BF2 kings! ::)

Most jet pilots are the same, complete tosserswho are only interested in racking up points and are alergic to capturing flags. God knows why they even bother to join a squad because they have nointention of following orders or helping their squad out. The game is so unbalanced towards jets, paticuarly J10's. There needs to be more AA ****er measures on many maps and better punishments dished out for people who TK jet pilots. Also a better way of scoring points for members who DO follow orders and less points for jet kills in hones opinion.

I know I'm going to get a load of 12 year old fly boys now defending their maverick antics and saying stuff like i suck at flying or just kill jets with other jets but its all BS. In many servers its far too dificult to try and get into a jet and there is way too much TKing going on for them and Attack choppers, and thats a fact.

Anyway, let the attacking of my opinions commence... :)
      ok........

I guess that's part of the reason a lot of pilots don't provide support. They got the tk punishes as they take off then they gotta worry about killing teammates helping out. So they just say screw it and focus on enemy spawns where odds are no teammates are close.

Yea that happens, but again, that comes back to my point of why teh hell are they bombing targets occupied by friendlies? Bombing should be reserved for commander or squad requests or used on enemy targets just before a strike. Only unless the pilot is almost certain the target is clear of friendlies should they drop a payload, and yo just dont get that in game. Its a drop a bomb and if thre are team mates in the way to hell with them kind of attitude.

godsANGER, mate, post of the thread. What a waste of space!!!! (the quoting i mean, not the comment. that was so unexpected i burst out laughing)

boxman, its obvious you put a lot of effort into your posts, thought and whatnot. im impressed. however, i think it is hard to have shots at people for not supporting you all the time.

im not a great pilot, but i do try to support the team. Like a few other people have mentioned, i'll try flying to a white base or attack ahead of troops. but i am punished for ALL BUT 1 TK. I remember that bloke, i still thank him when i bump into him. I have never once bombed the carrier. I have killed people on it twice in a vehicle, once was when i was tailing a F35 trying to gun him down, and the other was again trying to evade an f35, did a loop and swooped low enough to notch up a truckload of roadkills! both times i broke off as soon as possible and apologised to the US side for killing within their uncap.

I help out where possible, but i do know plenty about those people who you speak of. Just, when you're having a shot for pilots that are not supporting ground troops, bear in mind a thought that they might be fighting to stay in the air, or trying to keep the pesky attack chopper of a fully laden BH flag-capping mongrel away from flags.

Re: Why I hate jet pilots (My rant)

I try hard not to hate jet pilots as it's all part of the game but when you have a half decent pilot on maps like Gulf Of Oman you may as well just pack up and move on to another server.

They're hard as hell to shoot down and what's the point as they'll only be back in a minute anyway. You can't move in any vehicle without being bombed and spawn bombing is just so damn common it's a joke.

I think the thing that annoys me most is that you (well, me really) can't do anything about it. I don't hear them coming it's just *bang*, you're dead. Once ok, fair enough, twice gets annoying but again and again and again is just beyond a joke.

I'll sometime spawn at the airfield / carrier / whatever to try and get a plane to get revenge but there's always a bunch of people waiting there and if you move towards them they'll nudge you around so they get it. Well, I'm damned if I'm going to play that stupid game so I generally suicide and get back into battle.

I dunno, it just seems that BF2 is about planes and nothing else. There's no other way to get so many points so easily so it's rediculously unbalanced, you just can't lose and ground pounders like me are pretty well defenceless. I've tried the AA a ton of times but it's just impossible. The planes come in fast and fire off flares, you can't get a decent shot and they're gone. End of story. Maybe others have had more luck on the AA than me but I've had bugger all success and it's just really depressing to have to put up with it. My favorite maps are large, wide-open maps like Gulf Of Oman, Dalian Plant and Wake but when the jet-whores are around then what's the point in staying?

a good pilot will go after everything.

but sometimes they cannot, due to being: stupid nubs <-- most likely, no ammo, TEAMMATES IN THE WAY e.t.c

typically all the good high ranked pilots will take care of just about everything, play wake island much? notice the lack of invasions? 2 planes and a chopper nail just about everyone coming to invade

100% agree. My sentiments exactly to playing against jets.

The only thing I would add is my original points of the majority of the plant pilots not being team players. I appreciate the other side of the coin, and the input we've had on this thread from the pilots perspective has been interesting but hasn't really given much argument and i still havent changed my opinions of the vast majority (not all, pilots please note)

Fact is I dont expect my own teams jet pilots to be supporting me 100% of the time, but i do expect them to play the game as a team player thats all. That means not spending the whole game camped at the jet spawn with about 7 others, only one maybe two of them will get the jet so whats the point in leaving your own team short handed? Also when they do get the jet I expect them to do something constructive towards the team effort, which is to either take out the oppositions jets, or neautralise any threats to the main ground force. They need to work with the ground force rather than for themselves and sometimes actually against their team mates.

From what Ive seen of people who class them selves as aviators they will spend the entire match whoring the jet. Now I am no pilot by any stretch of the imagination, but if there is a plane free i'll use it if its going to help my team. IF there is a queue I'll sack the idea and go get another vehicle or attakc a flag. Its all about being versatile , useful and working as a team, not just chasing badges or whoring in one particular type of vehicle. Now to me, if most jet pilots did just this small token effort then the game would be 1000 times better.

yeah i agree with you im not a fan of jets ect in bf2 i dont like that hole lock on thing, should have made it like DC where you had dummy fire like in the attack choppers, and maybe made it so have to land to reload that would have been fun (messy but fun )

yep you know what the problem here is guys?? when they made this map for bf1942 it worked because you "COULD" move the carrier some where diffrent, but now that its stuck in one place it just gets raped, maybe they should have made a diffrent map for bf2 from 1942 maybe opperation market garden would have been better or maybe gazala, yeah lol why on earth did we get wake, so should have had gazala

This is my guide to AA. And while mobile AA is the most effective. the carrier, and stingers can make a mess of planes as well. And as for wake, if I'm on US, I usually start the round, in the "other' essex gun, hoping someone else gets on the main one, then it's just a matter of waiting for the j-10s to show up, and get wasted as they try to carrier rape. and hopefully it gives our guys enough cover to get to the main land, I even spray the beach with the chaingun, if it's clear of freindlies.

Speaking of which, one my buddies that flies, uses the "j-10 mentality" against j-10s, so when they go carrier rape, he'll sneak up on them in the f-35 just as they are making a pass at the carrier, flip on missles, and BAM, no more carrier raper. He also engages enemy planes, and helps us on the ground. not all pilots are point whoring self gratifiers.

I think you're generalizing too much in your thoughts. I'm always squading up, dropping bombs to support the men no the ground, escorting the choppers, ect.

However its people that kill for the jets just to crash and burn in ten seconds that ruin the game. I feel that bf2 needs a qualification award or cert. for flying jets and choppers.

So please think a little before you call all pilots evil.

Id like to see how this would look like from your perspective.
