Re: Which gun would you love to have IRL?
This is a popular thread.
It's always sorta fun yet sad to read how indignant the Brits become about others owning guns, when they can’t. I feel for you guys, I really do, but your country is run by a bunch of lefty hoplophobes... whaddaya expect?
Don't be jealous, do what my Ozzie friend does - he comes over and stays with me every couple of years, and I take him shooting. Gives him an infusion of hope, since at least one free country still exists in this world. We go to a range, have some fun with rented MP5s, I teach him how to shoot my Glock and P7 again, and then we go out to the desert for some fun with AR15s and AK47s.
Life is great in the USA, that's why everyone keeps trying to come live here. The only thing we need is a highway system like the Germans have, and some more women who look like those lovely English roses, and we'd have a perfect country.
As for the IRL... I've owned or at least spent time on the range with M16s, AK47s, an AK101, G3s, an M95, a bazillion different kinds of handguns, regular MP5s and MP5SDs, a Glilon (short Galil), an HK21, Benelli M1 Super90 shotguns both short and long, Steyr MPi69, Steyr TMP, and a variety of sniper rifles, plus all the usual civilian varieties of guns.
I'd like to own another HK91 (semi-only G3), and HK21s are a fun way to burn ammo, but the really interesting guns are the accurate, long-range stuff, which means for me it would have to be the L96, which is the closest in-game gun to my real dream gun, which would be a Sako TRG-42 in .338 Lapua Magnum, with a Schmidt & Bender scope, a bipod, and about 5 spare mags.
But here's what might be surprising to some, given my experience with shooting: I can honestly say that shooting guns is pretty overrated as a recreational activity, at least for me. I'm pretty good, I've gotten trophies and ranked at the top of every training class I've taken, including rifle classes with Mas Ayoob, and although I love shooting, people who don't do it a lot tend to idolize or glorify it more than it warrants.
Shooting is a serious, zen-like thing. It's nothing like the spray and pray garbage in BF2. And that's what makes it interesting, because it's so hard to do it well, not because it's some sex-related or violence-related high like those who envy us shooters often claim. Believe me, the feminists are wrong about guns, like they’re wrong about almost everything else.
It's always fun to take an anti-gunner to the range, show them what it's all about, and see their eyes light up when they finally understand that guns don't inspire violence or criminal intent, but instead make you very respectful of life, and other people, and result in a great appreciation of things like trust, mutual respect, and comradeship.
