How to get uber viewdistance in SP

I just had some fun tweaking with the .con files in bf2, and i managed to to adjust the amout of fog in the game.

    Here is what i did:

WARNING: REMEMBER TO MAKE BACKUP OF YOUR FILES!!!

    Go to your bf2 folder:
EA Games/Battlefield 2/mods/bf2/levels/<the level you want to use>/server.zip

Open Server.zip and extract it to a random folder.
Open the extrected folder, and open sky.con in notepad.

On the bottom of that file you will find something like:

    Renderer.fogStartEndAndBase 0.00/135.00/2.30/0.40
(The numbers ar diffrent on each level)

    Change this to:

    Renderer.fogStartEndAndBase 0/100000/10/10
Save, and put it back to the server.zip
Then open the game, and start singleplayer.

Here is my result (I only tried Karkand)

NOTE: YOU MUST NOT TRY TO JOIN MULTIPLAYER SERVERS WHEN USING THESE SETTINGS!!!

I dont know if this was useful to you, but enjoy it anyway

If you find a setting thats better than mine, please post it here

(Thanks BadLizzard for reopening my thread :))

Wow, great job! Definately need to try this, if it works, do you think that Punkbuster will realize that you can see forever? Probably not, but if anyone does get caught, post on here!!

To bad you cant join multiplyer servers with these settings.. You will get a message saying you have to run an unmodified version of bf2

Don't be foolish, this is not something that you should be doing, you will get PB banned if you attempt to run this online. You should not be playing around with your BF2 files.

I don't think that we need to get poeple playing around with their con files. Whether this is for "SP" or not.

*sigh* Too bad servers aren't running like this. That draw distance is pretty much how most of the UT2k4 and CoD maps were running.

This has possibilities form an awsome sniper LAN!!! As for online, meh, PB has been screwing up so royally that I doubt they could do anything. 2 nights ago I joint a 24/7 Strick at Karkand and I was been 1 shot killed from across the water with the G36E, not to mention some ungodly reaction times with ppl poping around corners, someone made the comment that everyone in the server was using an aimbot, I just enjoyed the challenge (though I did end up going sniper, figured to get them before they can got me).

This would be fun, I never liked the fog/dust in Karkand anyways. Not to mention this looks pretty.

it definitely looks ten times nicer than reg bf2, shame you can't use it on MP

You can thank DICE for the poor netcode that requires short draw distances. Had they used fewer polygons and simpler textures, you could gain another 500m draw distance.

It makes Karkand feel much smaller. I'm glad it has the fog.

I'm glad it has the fog as well. How would you like to be at the gatehouse and have a sniper take you out from the other side of the map? Sure it would be a hell of a shot, but pretty annoying.

It looks so much better with this jacked up draw distance, it's really too bad we have fog instead.
