Maybe I'm jaded because the experience you are reporting has been an issue since the old days of Battlefield 1942...their patches sucked then, their patches sucked in BF Vietnam, and to some extent, for some users (you and others) the patches are an issue for BF2.

I must have been charmed, although there were bugs with those 2 previous BF titles I never had them crash and they would always run. And people bitched about changes to kits and stuff, but it didnt really bother me, I could still play the game and at its core was some real fun.

In your 25 years of PC Gaming experience, have you never had a problem like this? If not, then you have been living some kind of charmed life, because as long as I've been playing PC Games, the only consistent thing has been the inconsistency with which PC Game patches have been implemented.

No, quite frankly I haven't ever experienced something as bad as BF2 and its patches. I've had bugs in games, but those I can live with. But I've never had to waste what has amounted to 20hrs in the past couple of weeks trying to get BF2 running. I have tried pretty much everything I know personally and have read - OS, driver, and software reinstalls, hardware diagnostics, swapping out components, blah blah blah. Yet every other game I own still works fine. I lived in hope that 1.3 would address whatever issue 1.22 gave me (1.22 ran fine for a good couple of months), but clearly it doesnt. Vanilla BF2 runs fine.

So, as much as I'd like to "suck it up" I'm at that cross-roads where I'm pretty pis*ed off and dont know what else to try. I'm left with either a severe compatibility issue with my machine and BF2s patching process, or some sort of new issue I have where my downloads are corrupted, but if that were the case I can't figure out why any other updates for other games I own work fine.

I've had patch issues in the past, just like you are describing and somehow I've been fortunate enough to solve them through various combinations of reinstalls and re-patches. If your problem is truely terminal, which I highly doubt, then I feel bad for you. However, if, as I suspect, your problem can be solved then I say suck it up and find a fix like the rest of us.

Suck it up isnt meant to brush you off, its meant to encourage you to suck it up, pick yourself up by your boot-straps and keep on trouble-shooting.

You can do it. It's part of the deal with PC games. Always has been.

Actually come to think of it, governments would run a lot better if they told the moaners to "suck it up". Thats what they did at Tiananmen Square anyway.

Are you saying that BF2 version 1.22 ran well for a while then one day suddenly it started messing up?

If that is the case then I'm willing to bet there was some hardware or software change that affected the BF2 install. I have no idea what that would be but other than spontaneous corruption of game files (which a reinstall would fix), the game shouldnt just stop working one day without hardware or perriferral (sp?) software changes...

I wish you good luck, as it seems you really enjoy the game...




(And Yeah, politics would be fun... My entire presidential platform would be "Suck it up and vote fool!"

Server Select screen Buggy as hell.
No server info while loading.

Same here... poor form for a patch supposed to improve the game... it's made finding and joining a server harder.

Also I don't seem to be able to search for a specific map, the browser just returns no results, even though there are servers running the map I want to play.. weird

EA/Dice tested this patch, and prior variations of it, with the crew over at BF2RS. You could see them in Game Monitor for the past few weeks if checked versions.

Some programs can directly affect BF2. I HAD Teamspeak overlay running (the new Beta) and it would randomly CTD while it was running. turned it off, and viola! All was good.

Now, if they can just fix the darned dancing servers list....

Yes. The only hardware change was the introduction of a Z-board. The issue remains after the Z-board is gone and windows got reinstalled (several times)

Dud missles in chopper (Never fixed, or addressed)
Server browser shows incorrect pings
Server browser 75% of the time does not list the players in that server.
Upon entering the game the IP is no longer there
When in game, pressing tab the IP is still not there.
When in game, pressing tab if the IP is not there you cannot add the server to your favorites.
Server name does not show up when joining a server.
Server name does not show up in game.
RED TAG BUG is still around
Lag.

Dice may be the creator, but EA is putting major presure on all the game companies they own to keep the public happy. And if that means pumping out patch after patch after patch just to buy more friendly time, then by god they will do it. This isn't Dice's fault (entirely), EA is the bad guy here. As it is with almost every single game out there that has major problems.

Anyway, lets hope they can get their act together at some point. This is costing them a lot of fans.
