Re: Listen to the community(10399 votes to leave squadhopping)

    I signed the petition.

Just to let you all know, I do not play in any sort of clan or competitive league. I only play on a handful of public servers regularly and utilize squad hopping daily. Despite popular belief, I've found that MANY other players in those servers (MoonGamers, especially), squad hopping is the "norm". Most of the people who do it (myself included) don't use it to teleport a large mass of players from one location to another- rather, we use it to keep a squad alive while trying to take a flag or to continue attacking an uncappable base while on foot.

I imagine what will happen after 1.3 is that players will volunteer to become dedicated mobile spawn points either flying excessively high in transport helicopters or hiding out on the outskirts of flags to keep the squad alive. But again, what's the point of going to all this trouble if EA/Dice does not reward the SL's in any shape or form points-wise if their squad is doing well? Super! Points are not everything to me seeing as how I already have the majority of unlocks I want/need, but seeing as how the rest of my squad usually finishes a round with about 50 points each and I have 2, it is rather lame.

Those who support the change can reason all you want about how squad hopping demotes teamwork, but I still believe otherwise. If I am not in a squad and see that a SL is trying to single-handedly take a flag, I'll join his squad, spawn on him, help take the flag and either leave the squad or keep moving with him after the objective is completed. How is that not teamwork related? Sure, it may not be exactly how EA/Dice intended the game to be played, but does it really matter? Essentially all the developers have done is to require a player to either suicide to spawn on the new SL, attempt to make it to that SL in time with a vehicle, or purposely let yourself get killed quickly to spawn at that SL's location. I think after this patch we're going to see a lot more of this: "PlayerX is no more" and suicide counts going up and through the roof.

I also think that by disabling squad hopping that it's going to promote a lot more flag/base raping. Armor fiends are going to have a hay-day once they realize that they can just keep pounding the few spawn points that each flag has. Imagine this: your team has one spawn point left. Armor/jet/chopper whores keep pounding that one flag so that everytime you spawn in, you die immediately. Meanwhile a teammate starts a new squad while attempting to take a different flag. Noone on the team can join his squad because everytime they spawn in, they die from the incessant spawn raping. And, because he's all by himself, he is easily taken out by the other team. Not only is EA/Dice suggesting that people stay in the same squad for the duration of the round, but they are also penalizing those who create new squads to attempt to achieve other objectives.

There are so many bigger fish to fry when it comes to bugs in the game that I can't see where the relevance of fixing squad hopping fits in. Bugs that have plagued the game since it first hit the streets still prevail and yet they want to keep tweaking weapons, vehicles, game mechanics, etc. and ignore the big problems that are in our faces day in and day out. I wish EA/Dice would take to heart this petition, but I know that they won't because they have their own agenda.

But either way, I signed it. And I am in no way, shape, or form affiliated with BF2's "competitive community".

You make a pretty broad general assumption there chief considering you know **** about me. Why can't you just resign yourself to the fact that the company who designed and made the game states that squadhopping was never intended to be used the way it is, and is viewed as an exploit?

If you don't like it, don't patch, or don't play.

I can't believe that this "Dice didn't intend it" argument is holding water with anybody. Has nobody heard of emergent gameplay?
I dread to think what would happen if this community had got it's hands on Quake or Tribes.
Imagine those games with no rocket jumping or skiing respectively. Both of those mechanics where glitches which were never intended by the designers, but they were the kind of things that made those games great, fast-paced addictive shooters.
Sometimes glitches can be great things!

Ok.... this sounds logical. Meaningful. Harmless. And all sorts of other "swell" adjectives. However, the end result still, is the fact, of which you stated in this quote....."we do it to keep a squad alive...."
Heres is my problem...... if your squad got hammered, or simply outgunned, or simply just plain out and out failed...(and thats ok, stuff happens) then why should this "artificial" means of squad hopping be ok? Really? Your squad failed. Regroup, try different routes, different kits, what have you. But to keep on comming back in the squad hopping form, doesnt sit well with me. You failed, move on. You already have a second chance in the form of a respawn at one of you flags, that I hope you have. SOme people argue, hey its too far away, or we dont have a flag near that one. Well, then, attack accordingly and hold onto flags accordingly, that will meet your squads objectives.
This squad hopping, totaly has changed the game.
On a note that seems im for squad hopping, i will say this. FOR squad hoppin', it seems to me, that by looking at flags, and the way or rather the order in which they are aquired, it appears the game is flowing better with it, then without it. But the bigger word here is Appears.
Squad has almost no meaning in BF2 anymore. Basically a squad is a group of 6 lonewolfs. Each one constantly looking for another squad leader, to spawn upon, to satisify his or hers' points requirements.
How about this.......... give the squad leader the option to "BANN" people from joining their squad.......
In other words, if joe smoe seems to be joining my squad, whenever my squad is aquiring a flag....then leaves shortly after...to be honest, i would just as soon ban him from rejoining my squad for the remainder of the game.
Perhaps this is the better solution?

My only wish in this situation is that Krysiss could sh*t up.

Anyway EA don't ****ing care's about petitions. Who wanted to nerf the blackhawk since everyone here used it before 1.2 ? They don't ****ing care about our opinions. Every bitch said: Buhuhuh i'm gonna leave after 1.2 and they are still here.

Hey ! Smile ! You can do point without squadhop !!!! Life is soo beautifull

no no, thats what people like you should have done in the first place, zipped it up , sucked it up and play the game. If EA is changing it then it is what it is until changed. Once the patch is in place you will start to complain about something new that we start doing. Why wouldn't I patch? all the people who play competivly adapt and learn and improve even more, we dont complain about anything in the game we all learn and accept that this is the game ea has givin us so we deal with it, we dont run to a forum to cry over a part of the game, aka you. you should take your last sentence to heart and add dont whine and post about it either .

i HATE EA!!! they r not addressing the problems that need fixing in their patches, but just altering the content and adding things that nobody even wanted(tangible UAV-- what was the point of THAT???), and taking away things that NOBODY EVER complained about(squadhopping)
but this isnt gonna stop me from playing. regardless of how EA screws things up, BF2 is a great game. i usually dont really complain, but this time i just have to. but, as much as i hate it, i will alter my style to better play with the new features(or lack there of)

Okay, what about a counter-petiton? you do realize that there is probably somewhere around, oh, at least 250,000 people playing? You can't argue that 10,000 people out of 250,000, less than 2.5% of the population want to keep squadhopping. thanks for the completely un-biased thread..

Jesus H. Christ you're thick-headed. I am not complaining about the situation of squadhopping now, I don't give a damn, and God knows I've used the tactic before. What I AM sick and tired of are people like you who **** and moan about your precious "tactics" being taken away.

When EA changes the mechanics of the game, while I may find it unfortunate, I don't come on hear and cry like a 5-year old.
