Re: Listen to the community(10399 votes to leave squadhopping)
I signed the petition.
Just to let you all know, I do not play in any sort of clan or competitive league. I only play on a handful of public servers regularly and utilize squad hopping daily. Despite popular belief, I've found that MANY other players in those servers (MoonGamers, especially), squad hopping is the "norm". Most of the people who do it (myself included) don't use it to teleport a large mass of players from one location to another- rather, we use it to keep a squad alive while trying to take a flag or to continue attacking an uncappable base while on foot.
I imagine what will happen after 1.3 is that players will volunteer to become dedicated mobile spawn points either flying excessively high in transport helicopters or hiding out on the outskirts of flags to keep the squad alive. But again, what's the point of going to all this trouble if EA/Dice does not reward the SL's in any shape or form points-wise if their squad is doing well? Super! Points are not everything to me seeing as how I already have the majority of unlocks I want/need, but seeing as how the rest of my squad usually finishes a round with about 50 points each and I have 2, it is rather lame.
Those who support the change can reason all you want about how squad hopping demotes teamwork, but I still believe otherwise. If I am not in a squad and see that a SL is trying to single-handedly take a flag, I'll join his squad, spawn on him, help take the flag and either leave the squad or keep moving with him after the objective is completed. How is that not teamwork related? Sure, it may not be exactly how EA/Dice intended the game to be played, but does it really matter? Essentially all the developers have done is to require a player to either suicide to spawn on the new SL, attempt to make it to that SL in time with a vehicle, or purposely let yourself get killed quickly to spawn at that SL's location. I think after this patch we're going to see a lot more of this: "PlayerX is no more" and suicide counts going up and through the roof.
I also think that by disabling squad hopping that it's going to promote a lot more flag/base raping. Armor fiends are going to have a hay-day once they realize that they can just keep pounding the few spawn points that each flag has. Imagine this: your team has one spawn point left. Armor/jet/chopper whores keep pounding that one flag so that everytime you spawn in, you die immediately. Meanwhile a teammate starts a new squad while attempting to take a different flag. Noone on the team can join his squad because everytime they spawn in, they die from the incessant spawn raping. And, because he's all by himself, he is easily taken out by the other team. Not only is EA/Dice suggesting that people stay in the same squad for the duration of the round, but they are also penalizing those who create new squads to attempt to achieve other objectives.
There are so many bigger fish to fry when it comes to bugs in the game that I can't see where the relevance of fixing squad hopping fits in. Bugs that have plagued the game since it first hit the streets still prevail and yet they want to keep tweaking weapons, vehicles, game mechanics, etc. and ignore the big problems that are in our faces day in and day out. I wish EA/Dice would take to heart this petition, but I know that they won't because they have their own agenda.
But either way, I signed it. And I am in no way, shape, or form affiliated with BF2's "competitive community".
