Has cheating become more widespread since the infamous "bf2s admin" emails?

NOTE: You cannot formulate an intelligent reply after only reading a thread title. Please refrain from this stupidity and don't bother replying here if you do not intend to read my crazy rantings in their entirety.

I'm not the type of person to accuse someone of cheating; mainly because players of all genres have become desensitized, oblivious, and even accepting of cheaters and cheating because they know that the response to accusations are always "hes jst good u suk nub". But I must regress; something clearly stinks of rotten fish in the BF2 community and I have become aware of it since the day I got that infamous email in my inbox. Now normally a post like this should be derailed by the collective ignorance of every player that cannot for the life of them spell the word "you" but I am a bit more significant than those that have cried wolf in the past (perhaps to go unheard!).

You see, I have cheated in the past. Although my "cheating career" only extends to counter-strike 1.1-1.3 and was done mostly due to herd mentality (cheating was extremely widespread in those days of CS for those that weren't around); it is nothing to brag or write home about except for the fact that I gained some invaluable knowledge about cheats, cheaters, and how to discover their facade.

The other day I observed some phenomenal players playing at various Karkand servers who had ridiculous scores of 100+ points with only 6 or so deaths. The one person who I had the misfortune of observing more and more often due to being "owned" consistently happened to be playing exclusively as a medic. At first I thought, "maybe he was raping with a tank, commander or something before I joined" but after more and more bs deaths it started to become clear that he was a fake.

With a quick burst of his L85 he dropped me and many other players without much effort. The MO was ALWAYS the same; he was always aiming in the victims direction no matter what circumstances arose (radar, esp, wallhack etc). In situations where you would obviously be sneaking up on someone he was always ready to face and kill you. To put it bluntly, I never got to see his backside. I began to regard him as an especially difficult player to kill and changed my tactics accordingly, mainly using lots of prefiring, nade spamming, and close quarters combat to down him.

I did manage to kill him a few times and wounded him on several occasions; but then he began to get more and more aggressive and began to fight from a distance. It was at this moment when he pulled his most bs move yet: throwing grenades squarely at my feet as if to mock me. I died many times due to these pin point accurate grenades and shockingly enough, many times he never even saw me. I can understand and accept stepping on random grenades in karkand but to see it coming consistently and with such accuracy on different parts of the map from the same player is quite a feat to accomplish. So is this the ideal skilled player that so many fools ignorantly praise and defend when their "skills" come into question? **** you and everyone like you. I've been there and done that and I know how to spot a crook. Everyone else is just a phony that has joined the new herd; that of the people who praise, worship, and defend anyone accused of cheating without the knowledge, experience or even the motivation necessary to effectively criticize these players.

Now bear in mind that I only picked one player to critique but there are many more players that I have noted in the past to be full of it. It seems as if I find one or two BS players per server or round when before there was no reason for paranoia. Is it no coincidence that cheating has been on the tip of the BF2 community's tongue more than ever recently?

Where there are rules, there will be those willing to exploit them. The bigger the community, the more apparent it becomes.

I forgot to mention that this guy was also "dolphin diving" and pulling off incredible headshots after barely initiating the dolphin dive! So much for not being able to shoot while in midair eh.

I have been called a cheat on occasion, but this guy sounds like a cheat. No matter what game you play there will always be some sort or cheating, even if it is the smallest glitch.

one of my old fav games q3 played that for 5 years lol,

cheats were easy to spot in that game thanks to the spec in 1st person you could see if a wall hack was being used or aimbot,

there are still a few server's left on q3(mod 3wave)and i can tell you that cheats are still going strong.

it can be frustrating to be on the end of a cheat.
but i take pride in the fact iv'e never used a cheat in a online game.

when i first started to play bf2 it took me a while to get used to it,and even longer to get my k/d up.

but i have on 2 or 3 occasions been witness to some godlike skill, but i find it rare on the servers i play in as there are admin fairl good.

i understand the op and where he is coming from though.

unfortunalty some ppl think you have to cheat 2 b l33t

sure way for this topic to get flames is for my name to show up
            sorry
but in defense of the OP
I and my whole clan are 100% convinced there are way too many cheats
we were some of the first to start the complaints
and all I got was bashed for bringing it up
            now , hehe
when we suspect someone of cheating
in additon to the old - 'let's all watch him' routine
we turn on BRecorder - for a game - dump it and watch
no way they can hide now

I think as the game has become more popular the degree of cheating has reflected that. plus there are lots os people who use exploits-macro binds etc., to try and get an advantage over people who play the game by conventional means

Bitvomit, that was a nice read and a very well constructed post and I agree there are script kiddies as I refer to them because all they do is hunt down sites they can download these bots/mods from. And it's funny because I have been called a cheater too and how did this come about?

I killed two guys with one clip....Yes that is all I did for someone to start the "nice hack" messages in the game. All because I killed two guys lying down in the room of the TV station on Sharqui Peninsula less than three feet from each other.

I have been playing games for a long time, I was on 28.K playing Rainbow six and then moved to K and bought the Eagle watch expansion. I moved to Rogue Spear and started laddering. Later in the time I bought Urban Ops and then onto Covert Ops. I move from there to Black Thorn and then started Ghost Recon and it's expansion, even the hidden expansion which resulted in the importing of the maps from Sum of all fears. I have been gaming since early 92-93 and have seen my fair share of bullet sponges, auto aims, wall hacks.

I still play, I won;t let it keep me down. I have never once gave in to cheating, although there are many different types and gray areas that people alike consider cheating but to me, the real cheating are the ones that defy Punkbuster. Sure they will always be around but their cheat does not do the thinking for them and thats what makes me, my tactics and my skill different. Because if they can't work that cheat program quick enough I will drill them down and if not be then one of my boys will because Auto aim cannot defeat teamwork because cheaters will always underestimate the power of people in large groups with guns.

You think that's bad ? Get good enough with TV missiles and watch people accuse you of hacking left, right and center...

Every server is a fight not to get kicked.

Re: Has cheating become more widespread since the infamous "bf2s admin" emails?

I have to say i don't believe the hacks are widespread at all, i think all that has happened since the infamous email is people are more aware that they exist and jump to conclusions when they are shot. I see it all the time in servers now and it reminds me of CS where people scream "CHEAT!!" if one guy kills them 2 times in a row, and this dissapoints me :hmm:

Inevitable there will be cheaters in ANY game but in such small numbers for most its not worth even worrying about it, the chances of being killed by a cheater is very slim and everyone posting here has pulled off a seemingly impossible shot that viewed from the other side would look suspicious.

I'm not saying the OP didnt observe a cheater but some of his examples are impossible, there is NO cheat that allows firing in mid-air and there is NO cheat to allow accurate grenade throws (auto-throws??) but by this time i'm sure the opinion that he was cheating affected his judgment. No flame intended here bitvomit.

The most important thing to remember is that *most* cheaters use the hacks because they actually suck so even with ESP they are generally still no match for an average player. If you get so wound up ina server that you think more then one person is cheating (V V unlikely) then simply switch servers before it makes you angry is my best advice.

To answer the original question is one word - "Has cheating become more widespread since the infamous "bf2s admin" emails?" - NO

I don't know if hax's more widespread now, it might or might not be. But in defence of all those who "whines" about hack's all the time, I catch myself several times a day thinking "Dang, that guy must be cheating, there's no way he could have hit me."

The problem is to be able to see the difference between a skilled player which should be honored, and a "l33t haxxor". It's not difficult if you keep your cool, but oh the frustration. Being base-raped, then owned by a skilled player ticks many a player off.

Don't get me wrong, I always enjoy being killed by a player which is more skilled than me. Knifed in the back, I usually throw a compliment the killer's way. But being killed by a haxxing a**whipe which later on boast about his leet skillz and how everyone got owned beneath his great prowess with hax, that makes me hopping mad. (No, not bunny-jumping mad)

I've though about cheating too. Sometimes I feel like the only way I could fel good is to cheat. But I know that cheating is a house of cards. Sonner or later, it'll all fall together and everybody will see how much of sissy you really are. No, give me one good player, not ten haxxing ones. And I'll never cheat. It's so much more enjoyable to own when you know you won because of you skills, not your software.

                      Immortal out. Don't cheat people.

Cheaters suck and will get bored fast and quit gaming thats what I hope.

I totally agree that there are alarge number of hackers in BF2. I dont think that it just happened since the famous E-mail, most have just noticed it more since then. Like Bitvomit Pointed out the sureest sign is to have a player that cant be suprised (you cant seem to attack him from the back). There are other tell tail signs as well, the most blatent being killed from beyond visual range or having a seamingly unhittable player. Like the guy I shot in the head 3 times yesterday at about 30 meters with L96 and didnt get a registered hit. I switched to my pistol and charged him, fired 3 more shots (one registered with the "X") and he spun around, instantly head shooting me with an SVD. Everyone gets killed sometimes and no one can go all day without a death.
So wake up pay attention. There are lots of cheaters. The only way you can truly say you never see one is to always play the same server that rarely has any new players or your blowing smoke to cover up for your own cheat. The saddest part is that about the only thing that you can do is move to a different server, as Im starting to believe reporting cheaters is a waste of my time. But, thats another story. . . . . . . . Red

Re: Has cheating become more widespread since the infamous "bf2s admin" emails?

I think that the number of cheaters is probably on the rise, as more and more people are willing to sample them and figure out that PunkBuster doesnt stop them... It isn't uncommon these days for a city-map server to have 2 or 3 "Privates" who have ESP... Heck, I saw it last night on a Karkand server I was on... this guy was dolphin diving all over the place, and seemed to always have his G36e in single-shot mode and was double-click headshotting everybody on the map..... He had a moderate rank, like Staff Sgt. or something, and he was on that same server 3 nights in a row (Fri, Sat, Sun) and always managed a score in the upper 90's.

This tells me a couple things... if he is hacking, he found a server with little/no admin presence and is leaching as many points as he can off of it. His hacks are pretty blatant... jump/prone headshotting from all distances, knowing exactly where everybody is (I was on his team and he was playing as if there was a UAV following him around the map... he just *knew* where every infantry was... he also knew where all the enemy armor was somehow and always seemed to avoid it.

Cheats exist, and yeah... they could be on the rise... the question for me though is, what is EA/Dice willing to do about it?

The fact that people seek to cheat is unavoidable unfortunately but it's a sad reality.

I wonder what they get out of it.

I think that the number of cheaters in BF2 is going to be exagerated like they were in CS. Yes a lot of people cheated in CS, but not as many as people think. A lot of people used it as an excuse to cheat and they will do the same in BF2, but it will never be as high as people think.
