The whole team is not meant to be one big squad, if it were there would not be any squads at all. Also, individual squads can be directed to different goals. It only makes sense. If you think about it, rationally, for more than a second you may understand what I am saying. Those who don't, obviously would rather have a game with all kinds of exploitable things in it to help them 'cheat' rather than actually have to work at achieving goals with their (permanent, not constantly rotating) squad mates. It is much more satisfying and fun, but that's just me I guess. :-/

      There's too issues here.

      1) Squad hopping - constantly joining and leaving squads to get the best spawn point.
      2) Squad cycling - having the squad leader leave and rejoin the squad when he dies so the forward position is not lost

I agree with you that squad hopping is not acceptable. However, I think squad cycling is a necessary part of assaults on flags. What they should do is include an option for the current squad leader to resign (thereby making someone else squad leader) without leaving the squad. This would keep squads together, promote teamwork, and eliminate the entire team spawning on one person (honestly has anyone ever seen this though?). Currently they're linked together and I'd much rather have both than neither.

ok so instead of having the Sl hiding somewhere so he wont die we have to keep a medic with him too?? effectively removing 2 members of the squad from the fight instead of 1

If you all like squad cycling, then why not just being able to spawn on any other team member that is not dead whether he is in a squad or not?

Keep on whining, EA/DICE won't change his mind about this, it's their game and it's not a democracy :p

And are you not forgetting that when there is a medic in your squad, that when he is dead, anybody could pick up the kit and revive the SL around you???

ADAPT, IMPROVISE and OVERCOME or PERISH

Yeah, it is cocky and blunt, I know. :)

But after so many discussions on other forums about this patch, whereby the petition people are so stubborn, I put it in the language they can understand.

Deal with it, get over it, ... or wait for other games

Maybe the squadleader should learn to PLAY and SURVIVE so there would be no need for other squadmembers to babysit him all the time? Not the easiest option because it would require some common sense, though.

                  The word is..

                  Tactic

Now that we have this out of the way..

First of all, im very much FOR this change. Just because you feel you need the Squadhopping in order to make maps like Wake2007 work.. Complain about the map, not about the removal of your precious "tacktick". If the map is broken, request a fix, but dont cling to something that the developers of the game, its creators, have deemed an exploit, because its NOT the way they ment the game to be played, and that is all that matters. They own the game, and you might be surprised to hear this, but you dont.

Adapt and overcome, its not that hard. If you want to lonewolf, go right ahead. If you want to be in a squad.. fine, squads are for people to work as a UNIT. It doesnt work if you all rambo ahead without care and cant be assed to look out for your squadleader.

AND FOR ****S SAKE, YOU CAN STILL JOIN ANOTHER SQUADLEADER AS LONG AS YOU ARE ALIVE.

So yeah, if this squadhopping thing is so "teamplay oriented" just tell mr squadleader to wait somewhere so people can change squads and spawn on him? Shouldnt be to hard for your awesomely coordinated clan people. We are talking seconds here.. Jeeeeez.

untill a SL can dodge bullets matrix style then i still dont agree with u. i dont agree with squad hopping i just wish it was possible to apply a different member as squad leader without having to leave a squad.

Glad to see it go. Good Riddance!

Maybe we'll start seeing some well thought out tactics instead of the generic exploiting..

Re: EA/DICE: Squad hopping IS an exploit...

Again, unless if they implement a scoring system (ala the commander role) that averages out the squad's global points for the Squad Leader, this is going to be detrimental to squad play. When I'm playing Squad Leader, I usually hang back from the action anyway, so that our squad can keep moving, but it's a big dissapointment that my squad mates will score anywhere from 30 - 60 points per round and I end up with about 10.

And now that EA is taking out the option to rotate the Squad Leader upon death, you're going to see commanders taking a more active role either pointing out the location of hiding Squad Leaders or sending artillery down on only them. How hard is it, for a commander, to spot a Squad Leader who's lying down behind the front line behind a rock or tree?

About the only way to lead a squad successfully after this patch is to be a pilot in a transport helicopter and stay above 500 meters- outside of AA range. Artillery can't touch it and few jet pilots venture that high. Or, if it's to keep a squad alive on the carrier, you'll see more Squad Leaders exploiting the bug that allows a RIB to dive underneath the carrier. (Note, when under the carrier, you can man the RIB gun and kill the people who spawn down by the boats. Lame.)

With this upcoming patch, they won't have fixed the problem with squad hopping. Rather, they made it so that each player who wants to do so has to suicide to spawn on a new Squad Leader.

The medic is there to revive the SL and other squadmates as they are moving around on the battlefield. Once the squad approaches a remote CP to attack, the SL hides in a "safe" spot and the medic GOES WITH THE REST OF THE SQUAD. As squad members respawn on the SL, they need to help mask his hiding spot by not continuously approaching the flag using the same route.

Huh? If you have a squad full of players moving across a map to a rear CP and somehow they all get killed with only the SL surviving, they can spawn right back in on the SL. That is the way it is now and the change will have no effect on that scenario. The "fix" will preclude new squad members from joining into that squad and spawning in for the first time on that SL.

what if the squad leader dies? its effective for members of the squad to leave and make the survivor the sl and join back so they can spawn on him and not have to run all the way back. and yes the change will have an effect for people smart enough to use this strategy.

what if theres a tank there and the medic has to runaway and cant revive his teammates cause then the tank o'll just blow them away as soon as he revives them including the medic.

Then the SL is an idiot for running out in front of a tank.

I played SL for a bit last night on the TBF2 server.. I was running around like a madman trying to stay alive as my squad assaulted the suburb (I say assaulted loosely because we were unsucessful in our attempt). I must have stayed alive 10 minutes despite:

                                Arty strikes on our position
                                Jeeps
                                Tanks
                                APC's
                                Entire squads hunting us down

Did I get a lot of points? NO. Did I have fun? YES. Kinda like a game of old fashioned manhunt, but with guns. Did my squad have fun? I don't know, since we were unsuccessful and they were getting killed a lot. That was my fault for choosing a tough flag to assault.

Oh, and I was an engineer, not some self-healing bunny hopping medic. My point is that it can be done if you think about what you are doing.
