Re: Games like BF2 are the reason that consoles will always suck

    Chris,
Both are means of transportation, and in the same time they are both used for transportation. PC and consoles, both used for gaming but they are good at different areas. Perfectly valid comparision.
This is so ludicrous I don't how to respond. Sure, if you completely oversimplify it and dumb it down, you can say "well they are both for transportation" but they are for such different types of transportation that drawing this comparision and then defending it is just plain stupid and just goes to show that you are too stubborn to admit your comparison might not have been good.

    How about some benchmarking stats?
Are you seriously asking me for benchmark stats to prove that a 3.5 GHz motorola processor isn't more powerful than a 4.0 GHz motorola processor? LMFAO!!!

On top of that, a bench mark test would be completely pointless because they share a completely different function sets and are designed to do different things. One could easily make a bench mark test to make either one of them appear much more powerful than the other. All you have to do is just intentionally focus on their respective strengths and weaknesses.

Is that an excuse for a failure?
OMG, would you please follow the debate? It isn't an excuse for failure. What I was doing was pointing out that porting games from one system to another is not an easy task and so saying "well this game was better on it's original console/pc" doesn't prove that the system is better.

But youre trying to convince me, that just because PCs are superior in hardware, their games are automatically better and thus consoles suck.
LMAO! No, I never said such nonsense. In fact, I explicitly said that the gaming content was a push and I even explicitly listed out the consoles that I have spent much time gaming on.

You mistaked my claim of the truth, that consoles are behind the market on technology, as saying they suck. Forget the fact that I explicitly said in the post that you are responding to that they don't suck. I mean, that would actually require you to read what I have written and think about it instead of spouting off the first inane nonsense that comes into your head.

They make up for a lot of it by being dedicated machines and not general processors, but the fact of the matter is that by the time a console makes it to market, its processor technology is all out of date by computer standards.

So youre saying, that if a game cant be modded its doomed, and since console games cant be modded, consoles suck? Be more clear, although I doubt you can.
I love how you are a complete ass to me about things I haven't even said. Congratulations on that, BTW. Again, I never said console sucks. What I said is that moddable games have a longer life than unmoddable games.

Mods make the games live longer, sure, but saying that PC games are better than console games because of modding capabilities is wrong.
Well, if I actually said that PC games were better than console games you would have a point. However, all you have done with this comment is show how you can't read.

The problem is that the games released on those platforms are different.
I can't believe you are arguing this point after defending that planes and cars are similar forms of transportation. Pure unadulterated hypocrisy. I agree that they target different things, but they both fulfill the same exact nook, videogame entertainment while cars and planes occupy very different nooks (short distance easily accessible transportation and long distance transportation).

Stop looking at the hardware and start comparing the GAMES.
I am and I was doing nothing but. I explicitly said that the content was a push and that consoles don't suck. I love games like Amplitude, Frequency, Guitar Hero, Shadow of the Collussus, etc. . . of which there is no parallel on PCs.

However, the reason that games exist on consoles and not on PCs is because they are more readily available because the hardware is cheaper. If consoles didn't exist these games would all exist on PCs. However, people make games on consoles because they can reach a larger audience. But the fact of the matter is that the hardware IS inferior. It is more efficiently used during games, however, it is inferior by the time they make it to consoles and for that reason alone PC are able to handle better graphics for more objects.

You are just talking out of your ass to incite flames. Good job.
Wouldnt bring it as an example if I hadnt played it. And considering YOU started this flamebait thread, I call your last statement quite amusing. Nice selfownage there. Ive played both PC and PS2, I had a choice on which platform I would complete it and I did it on PS2. MTA doesnt interest me, but youre right there. Then again, lets not forget its a port, and PC offers better OL MP capability, no questions there.

I dont see why and how could you want to combine two industries. Ports arent mostly very successful. Look at MGS2 graphical issues (on PC).

Controller isnt the only thing that separates a console from a PC. Ease of use, no worries about upgradeability for years. Insert and play. No software issues. And, PS3 will have Blu-Ray technology by default, which makes it a platform with a future both in gaming and home entertainment.
Sony will also focus majorly on its network capabilities.

Having seen ingame footages of such games as MGS4, Motorstorm, Killzone 2, BIA3, Gran Turismo and some more, will leave me no doubt that graphics wise, consoles will keep up, if not stay ahead for a while.

Everyone keeps talking about how consoles and PCs have their own crop of games that they excel at. Well the fact of the matter is that all these wonderful exclusive console games can be ported to PC.
They can, they are, and yet they mostly fail. Why? Can you answer? I wish I could but I just dont know why. Maybe console games just dont fit to the "general" PC audience? Maybe there really are two gaming communities? I dont know.

But most console ports Ive played on PC generally are either not as good, dont play as good.

Remember the good ole days when hits like MK were released for all platforms on the same day? There's nothing stopping developers from doing this. Unfortunately greed and exclusivity are the primary reasons that PC gamers get the shaft when great games are only released for consoles.
I dont know techical side of gaming industry. But I would think theres a bit more to it than just greed and elitism. Difference in hardware, software and controls for example. And then theres the variety of PC components the game should be running on and whatnot. I would think that if porting was so simple, they would be doing it all the time.

As most PC gamers will tell you, they either own a console or have owned one in the past so there isn't really a whole lot that seperates our taste in games.
Not a console fanboy here. Im one of "you". I dont think that PC games are superior though, nor that console games rule all.

Not only that but the PC lacks a true and official controller like the consoles. Imo, nothing beats a console controller when it comes to playing console games. Especially fighting games. I can't count how many crap PC controllers I've gone through where you can't even throw a hadoken let alone win a match. If you could have all your favorite console games (current gen) on your PC then that would make it obviously superior to consoles.
Thats so very true. But PC has its own brand controller- Mouse and KB. If we add Mouse and KB to PS2, voila, Half Life on PS2 isnt that bad at all. At all. However, console gaming revolves around its simple nature. You can see the difference between an average console gamer and PC gamer (not visually, god forbid ). Throw that CD in, press START and youre in. Play a few games with your buddy and youre done. A true, simple gaming machine which wont make your brains blow up with various software and hardware issues. Theres more to it than just a controller.

Gamewise, I play PC for SWAT4, BF2 and SCBR right now. Thats it. Notice the use of mouse and KB in those and the online MP capability.

There is one small glimmer of hope though: microsoft, windows vista, and xbox 360 could change all this. Just maybe...
XBox is already on the way. But from what I saw, and played Halo is HORRIBLE as a game. And thats just the beginning. MS either doesnt take Xbox mission seriously or theres some other unknown reason.

Yay. Arguments about whether consoles or PCs are better. Never heard that argument before.

Can't we just accept that both have their pros and cons, and just enjoy the games that are made for them?

I am trying to deliver a message behind that stupid sounding comparision. Its a communcation error as it seems.

Are you seriously asking me for benchmark stats to prove that a 3.5 GHz motorola processor isn't more powerful than a 4.0 GHz motorola processor? LMFAO!!!
No, not seriously. But one who talks about "debating" should back his claims with facts, dont you think?

I am, for gods sake. Youre talking about how hard it is to port. And Im asking you if its an excuse for a lousy port? Its that simple. People say very often that a port from a console to PC would look just as good, even better and be "in fact" all around better. In reality, most ports are pretty bad.

Again. Im not saying a console as a system is better.

I love how you are a complete ass to me about things I haven't even said. Congratulations on that, BTW. Again, I never said console sucks. What I said is that moddable games have a longer life than unmoddable games.
          Funny.

I said that a game does not have to be modded. You said "Not true".
I mean, now that youre telling me I cant read, it would be a godo time for you to go back and reread everything, just so, you know, you wouldnt be a hypocrite?

Modding alone isnt something that should grant a game a longer lifespan.

I can't believe you are arguing this point after defending that planes and cars are similar forms of transportation. Pure unadulterated hypocrisy.
Wouldnt be much of an issue if you havent had missed the point behind the comparision.

I agree that they target different things, but they both fulfill the same exact nook, videogame entertainment while cars and planes occupy very different nooks (short distance easily accessible transportation and long distance transportation).
Im not comparing transportation to entertainment. Comparision between consoles and PCs is like a comperision between cars and jets. Cars and jets are both means of transportation (entertainment) yet they adress different typoes of transportation like distance (FPS vs driving sims). Get it?

Simplified- PC in hardware, high end systems may outperform consoles, but that doesnt make their games better.

Sounds more like to me that you are trying to force an analogy that doesn't work.

No, not seriously. But one who talks about "debating" should back his claims with facts, dont you think?
Hypocrisy. You came out of nowhere and started personally attacking me. All I did was point that out. On top of that, you have offered no more facts than I have.

Youre talking about how hard it is to port. And Im asking you if its an excuse for a lousy port? Its that simple.
Yeah, but the question has absolutely nothing to do with the debate!

In reality, most ports are pretty bad.
            Agreed.

I said that a game does not have to be modded. You said "Not true".
First of all the discussion went like this:

You: Why should one want to mod a game anyway?
Me: You aren't serious, are you?
You: Im not saying that you SHOULDNT mod a game. Im saying that a games natural life cycle doesnt always include modding. And console games modding aspect is limited. That is common sense, and shouldnt be adressed as an issue.
            Me: Not true at all.

My "not true at all" was to your claim that it "shouldn't be adressed as an issue" not to the claim you just made up that "games don't have to be modded." Please don't lie about what you have said.

I mean, now that youre telling me I cant read, it would be a godo time for you to go back and reread everything, just so, you know, you wouldnt be a hypocrite?
I can't believe you are telling me to go back and reread stuff when you just made up what you said during the discussion. That, my friend, is hypocrisy.

Comparision between consoles and PCs is like a comperision between cars and jets. Cars and jets are both means of transportation (entertainment) yet they adress different typoes of transportation like distance (FPS vs driving sims). Get it?
I guess I see your point. However, they are just so disjunct. . . like you would almost never use a plane when a car makes sense and vise versa and could never get away with just using a plane. However, with PC/console, you can effectively use both for all types of games.

Simplified- PC in hardware, high end systems may outperform consoles, but that doesnt make their games better.
Which has been explicitly my point from the begining and this entire flame war could have been avoided if you hadn't pointlessly attacked me.

Re: Games like BF2 are the reason that consoles will always suck

You could actually use BF2 as a prime example of why PC games suck: Because most systems (as in, existing systems, not new ones) can't even run it, and most of the ones that do run it like crap, unless everything's on medium or lower.

The nice thing about consoles is and always has been that you just pop the game in and play, and it plays WELL. Even if the system came out three years ago. Meanwhile, PC game developers are constantly riding the curve and designing everything to take advantage of tomorrow's hardware.

Don't get me wrong, I love PC games, but getting cockblocked by ridiculous system requirements (I'm talking to you, F.E.A.R.) is starting to get old.
