I am totally against BF2ROE, because they prevent servers with nonstandard rules to operate. I consider them something between hitlerjugend (bad guys wannabe -when they brag about this mythical ROE) and gestapo (when they actualy close servers). The only good rules-enforcing organization out there is EvenBalance and PunksBusted, and we dont need anything besides that.

yeah iv played on a few knife and pistol servers purely for fun, i didnt end up with 100+ points i got about 45 but it was really fun and it wasnt very competitive.
Ive even been on a non K + P server ,and people were wanting to play knife only because it was fun.
so i dont see the problem if people want to play with only them weapons let them.

I believe your credibility is. Evanbalance will never stop hacks completely and we know this. But they can keep it from running rampant. Also that is the point is that we only need hacker proofing not ROE rule enforcement. And there is nothing in the ROE about using pistols only. It says that admins cant kick or ban for using something else and it says that they cant assist padding or decisions on pistols only. If a group decides to do it then that is there right. If someone is votekicked out of a server then too bad.

And non-standard servers is exactly what they are. Just like the other non-standard servers like altered ticket count and such. Not many gripe about that though do they!?

...there is nothing in the ROE about using pistols only.

If that's what someone decided to do on a legally setup and admin'd server then that's fine.
This thread isnt' about using only a pistol in a game.
It's about Knife and Pistol Only servers. Here's the Rule in the RoE:
§1.8 Players may not use or exploit game mechanisms to artificially boost their score ("stats padding") and Server administrators may not knowingly allow or encourage this activity on their servers.

This would include but not limited to:

* § Knife-Pistol-Revive
* § Knife-Pistol only Servers
* § Knife only Servers
* § High Points Servers
* § Infantry only Servers
* § No Artillery or Armour Servers
* § Using Vehicles removed from battlefield for purposes of artificially inflating points
* § Turning boats upside down and repairing
* § Glitching inside buildings.
* § Modifying game files for vehicles and weapons.
* § Items not included in this list would be up to EA & DICE to interpret.

These servers are illegal.
They also violate a second rule by kicking people who use any other weapon or vehicle besides K&P's.

§1.5 Server administrators may not explicitly or implicitly (by actions) enforce restrictions on vehicles or weapons that players can use while on your server (e.g. knives only, aircraft prohibited except for clan members, etc.)

* § Infantry only Servers
* § Kicking Players who use vehicles or aircraft
* § Limiting certain vehicles or aircraft for non clan members

Erm like i asked before .. is the ROE officially endorsed and enforced by EA? If so can anyone point me to the legally binding documentation that explains this?

We refer to these as the Rules of Engagement, and they are managed by EA and Combat Studios on the BF2 Ranked Servers site. Due to the dynamic nature of BF2 this is a living document and subject to revisions. In the same forum there is a location to debate and discuss the RoE. These are rules driven by the community and thus feedback is imperative to keeping the RoE on track and fair.

The part about the rules being driven by the community and a living document has only been adjusted for their sake and if you pay attention to the way they treat any feedback they get against the way the rules work you will see why they are not a pro-community organization and why only these "I need more points than him" guys are then only ones that support them.

There are 3 Parts to the RoE:
1 GLOBALLY ENFORCED RANKED SERVER RULES (This is the Uber Official Part)

These are rules that all administrators and players using ranked servers are expected to observe and are set by EA, BF2RS under the EULA/TOS/RSA/ROE.

2 EA OFFICIAL PUBLIC SERVER RULES
(These are enforced on Official EA Ranked Servers but don't have to be enforced on Other Ranked Servers)

These are rules that EA official server administrators enforce to maintain friendly, disciplined servers and are in addition to the global rules defined above.

3 LOCAL (PRIVATELY RENTED) RANKED SERVER RULES MODIFICATIONS
(These are rules you might see on Public Ranked servers as long as they don't violate the Rules from Part 1)
These are rules that are not enforced upon in EA’s public ranked servers but may be modified in privately rented ranked servers. These rules are decided by clan administrators for those servers and as long as they do not contradict any global rules enforced by EA are considered valid for those servers.

I hate it when admins run their servers the way they want, I have been working hard to get a Life Time Achievement Award by playing this game a particular way that does not conform with the way these people are playing on them servers.

These servers are going to seriously ruin my chances at that award and any other meaningful badge that mite help me gain further social status in real life or advance in the real world work place.
