I used to actually know the range of the grenade the Brit Army uses but I think if the grenade blows on concrete it's 90yd's because obviously hard surface in which the metal can richoet(however you spell it)
    I think on grass it's 40.
    Can't believe I've forgotten that sh*t already:laugh:
To say I was in the Grenadier Guards aswell..Shocking!!

I think that would be the "possibly effective" range. The absolute range is probably more around 20yds. And claymores (depending on pack size) probably around 40yds.

so if I'm standing on a football field with a claymore at the other end. And someone trips the claymore. I will probably get hit my some shrapnel? That's scary. I would think I was safe.

I would have no idea about the claymore, never even hand my hands on one.
I think measuring in feet might have been what I wanted lol

I find it vastly amusing that people think that the military relases all the information on munitions, weapons and such.

Are you really that stupid that you think you can look up accurate and detailed information on weapons civilians are not able to aquire legally?
For Christ sake pull your head out man.

Before the the roasting starts you can of course look up educated guesses and speculation.

Quick someone tell me the top speed of the Raptor??!!?

Google, Wikipidia, sure they know all the answers.

Actually yes you can find most of it on or off the web with no problem. You need to know where to look. And really we are just making guesses anyway. Alot of police and SWAT type forces carry these or other versions of the weapons and so it is easy to get stats and info on them.

Personally, I would not put all my faith in a website (Wikipedia) that can be modified by almost anyone. Given I'm sure most of the information presented is accurate, I would be more inclined to believe the individuals that have actually served and were TRAINED with these weapons.

I often thought it would be cool if when you triggered a mine it made a just audible sound...and if the victim stopped moving he wouldnt set it off. Then engineers could come and defuse it.

Ofcourse then id snipe the guy and his engineer mate, then the medic that revived him and his mate, then shoot him again ... and then probably get killed by the engineer.

But i dont see how its different to laying down ammo or health...its all metaphors for reality and not trying to be reality.

Well the military needs to tell SOMEONE the capabilities of the weapon systems they are using. If nothing else the people deploying them. How many people has the US military had through it since the Vietnam war?

Do you think every single one of those is going to keep mum about what they know?

Then there is the fact that the USA isn't the only country in the world to operate Claymores. The British army uses them as well. Hell the South African army has them.

Add in the fact there are companies that specialise in military technology, namely companies like Janes.

Ontop of all this, there are many civilians with access to military grade weapons and equipment. Contractors, manufacturers, the IRA, you get the idea.

While there are some handy general info things like Wikki, there are also the slightly more indepth web sites like, Janes, Globalsecurity.org, the slightly out dated FAS.org and a couple of other websites. Then there are the non US websites that also have this information.

Throw in the thousands of reference books that are available in print and the fact that many of the US Army field manuals are available on the internet in their entirity pretty much means you can look up whatever you want about the weapons they are currently using. Especially if the damn things are over 30 years old.

Hell you can even look up the part number for the defective clacker that gets shipped with the Claymore originally.

While the HSLD guys might have some toys that we aren't aware of, and there might be some minor discrepancies with the numbers, there are simply too many people who have access to these weapons for them to be super secret.

And on a side note, the fatality area of an M67 frag grenade is given as a 5 meter radius. Fragments can be thrown as far as 200m.

On another side note, there was a British DOD report that discussed the difference between airburt grenades and ground burst ones. If you are in a 30m^2 room with a ground burst M67 equivalent you stand a 17% chance of stopping one major fragment. However if you make the grenade an air burst one you stand a greater than 40% chance of stopping 2 major fragments.

All this aside, the claymore in the game is a nice little variant of the ubiquitious trip mine that's been around since HL 1. It doesn't even remotely begin to resemble a real Claymore in either deployment or effect. However it is a nice pice of equipment in the game.

The bouncing betty would be a step in the right direction with regards to effect, but it is still wholly lacking in the deployment area. It takes even longer to set up than a Claymore does.

What you are really looking for is something along the line of the Toe Poppers. I can't offhand recall their model number, but their main advantage was small size and easy of deployment. They also didn't blow up in lots of flame and smoke. They were simple pressure activated mines that produced a big enough explosion to sever toes and seriously famage feet. This effectively removed the victim as a threat, and would fit the BF2 effect of a "claymore" better. However you can, in the case of a CF, hit more than one person with a Claymore in BF2.
