Closest thing would have to be me duking it out in an assault chopper against another assault chopper. Those are actually pretty spectacular to watch as they circle one another, trying to out-maneuver each other and landing missiles/cannon-fire and trying to line each other's co-pilot up for the TV-missile shot.
Thing is- even if there WERE dogfights, the maps are always too small to have proper dogfights.

In the past few weeks dogfighting really has seem to have dissapeard from bf2 altogether. No one checks their rear, pilots immediatley break off and go back to base if they run out of missles. Pilots no longer seem to be capable of getting away from enemy jets when someone actually comes after them with guns. Everyone's complaining about the f-35b/j10 comparison. Were they unbalanced pre-1.2? Yes, they were, but I didn't see thread after thread about it back then. Of course, it is rediculous that the f-35b has such a small chance of evading missles, but why do you people want to fix this by making other jets THE SAME?! Missles can be used to down a j-10, it's all about the timing.
Ask yourself: When was the last time you had a real dogfight?
Now please don't post some comment on how us pilots just want kills or points. Make no mistake - with or without the new AA, a decent pilot in post-1.2 BF2 will have no problem 'ground pounding'. It's the excitement and skill needed in dogfights that attracted me to jets in the first place, and with the new <20 second missle fights it has completely gone away.
Aren't there any other aviators here who want the old way of dogfighting back?
Forgive the whineyness of this post, but I feel very strongly about this subject as jets attracted me to BF2 in the first place and won't let it rest this easily
