Best score in a round with the jet I got was 42-2 but then again im not one of those who bomb bomb bomb, I take out boats with the cannon, and ground troups depending on their posistion, but taking down the enemy helicopters and jets.

Endless954, jw but how did you get a death streak of 28?

LMAO, defending a helipad on Ghost Town with AT against two Hinds....it was ugly, but they never got that flag!!

The problem is that raping groundforces is much more rewarding with points but taking down a plane is no longeer a real challange with the new missles...

yeah, but carrier and home base bombing has gone waay up.
the annyoign thing is that nothing can be done. if you use AA, the planes always have flares ready, and if you wait, yourt dead.

i tihnk home base AA, like the essex, should be the best gun in game. enemy planes shouldnt be able to attack the home base.

This is why I like the MoonGamers Oman server so much. Pilots aren't allowed to bomb uncappable bases - or even attack aircraft attempting to take off. It makes the game more fun for everyone. Who likes getting shot up before you even get off the ground?

That's not to say that people don't get away with it it there- but there are usually admins around that resolve the situation quickly to ensure everyone has an enjoyable gaming experience there.

Many of my deaths in a jet came from the days before I started playing at MoonGamers where people would kill me while I was trying to take off with jets/tanks/choppers.

They got cried right out of BF2 by the people that never bothered to learn how to fly or over come the learning curve. These are the same people that complain about gameplay actions as being bugs yet, do not care about getting randomly disconnected from servers or CTDs.

Re: Where have all the real aviators gone?

I consider myself pretty good in jets. I'm pretty much a JSF whore... I can't STAND J-10's... I feel guilty whenever I am in one... I have only been in a J-10 probably.... under 100 times. I have started to rack up some chinese time (still BY FAR my least played army), because the server I play on makes it mandatory that you switch teams).

I am smart about how I fly, and I can typically down about 6-10 J-10's in a round (not as easy as it sounds... trust me. No missles are involved.. can you say "stalking"). I stay high and get low for what I need (I love the 750-820 range... you can get some major speed, and at that height, JSF manueverabilty > J-10 manueverability, because JSF has stronger afterburners (although shorter), and can roll faster, and has a lighter mass.).

I ONLY fly on wake. I just love it.. And I know the map REALLY good. People accuse me of hacking all the time..

I HATE when people ****ing use bombs on cars... people that use bombs on cars/AA/single ground troops needs to get out of the jet... because you have a strong ****ing cannon mounted on your jet... USE IT!... you can take out a full health tank, in 3 runs... with that cannon.
So save bombs for something useful....(tanks)

Also... heli's, I ONLY use cannon. Just aim for the cockpit... and they are dead as soon as you get like 5-10 rounds into them... which is under a second.. so..

So basically, I am almost always in a JSF, never use missles, and bomb ONLY tanks, or a BIG group of people (like 5-6), and I fly really high when I know jets are in the air. Oh and another thing, I blow up every AA I come across that is a popular AA (like the north base AA, and airfield, sometimes north base/beach.... etc...).

But yeah. Best score, was 99-0. Typically, IF I get a jet from the START of the round, I will get around 40-60 kills on average, and I try to keep the deaths minimal. Sometimes you might not be paying attention, and a J-10 will lock on to you.

Here are my stats as of today (half of the deaths are from when I was first starting )

I wanted to ask you, how do you stalk a J-10 (6-10 is pretty damn good)?

In a scenario where the J-10 pilot keeps looking back?

Re: Where have all the real aviators gone?

There is not even a hint of real, true dogfighting simulation in this game, or really 1942 for that matter either.
-Gravity is exaggerated so much to keep the jets below a certain altitude that real dogfighting characteristics are never apparent. A good example from '42 is that dogfights turn into horizontal turnfights, while in real life physics, anyone turning horizontally could be raped by vertical looping.
-You do things in a jet that would kill a pilot almost every turn.
-These things arent meant to close quarter dogfight.
                    -A 1500ft ceiling is nuts!
-Really, even on the largest maps, the playing area is too small for real air to air work.

I play to ground pound. Air to Air is a neccesity only, that I don't really enjoy. Pointing my jet at another at the right angle and shooting off a missle is boring.

If you want to play a REAL digfighting sim, go play Aces High, or my favorite, Fighter Ace. I get dogged every time I post about this subject, but I feel that those of you that really want a true dogfighting experience are getting shorted in a mostly FPS ground game.

I have played Fighter Ace since 1998 when it was on the MS Gaming Zone, and I can tell you it is a great community of WWII aviation enthusiasts that love the game. The learning curve can be daunting at first, especially if you face someone like me who has been playing for 8 year, but well worth it. The $15/Month is the biggest detractor, but you get ambiguos paid admins policing rooms, and constant support.

Let me just tell you first, that I have played with alot of the best pilots of BF2, and I can still kill them.

                      Here is the thing.

I don't care HOW good you are, there is GOING to be a time, when you are not paying attention behind you. Whether it be taking out an Essex, boat, or chopper, that gives me about 5-10 seconds of "straight time"... and that is more than wide enough of a window for me to kill someone with my cannons.

What I do, is I follow the guy slightly higher or lower than "level" with him. I just stalk him and anticipate his next move. If I see a friendly chopper or boat or something.. or Essex, I kind of passively use that as "bait" for me to kill the J-10.

That is all I am going to say.. because I don't want everyone knowing my tricks :p

In case you need to be reminded, none of the pilots in BF2 bought the game for its "simulation" aspect. Assuming that we treat dogfighting in BF2 as a simulation is laughable, at best.

                          Yeah... simulation....

                          Its only X Y and Z axis, + afterburner + a couple other things.

Simulator.. there is a billion things to worry about. Inside, and outside, of the cockpit. And sims are much slower paced. I love the action and speed of BF2 flying.

The games I mentioned are certainly a little more complex than BF your right, but nothing like a MSFS, or Falcon 6.0.

What I was saying is that the physics are more real, thus the dogfighting, to me anyway, more real.

In Fighter Ace, there are 3 phiyscis arenas. Arcade gives no redouts or blackouts, stress failures, etc, and quick instant action.

I am not trying to dog BF2 and I agree noone, in their right mind, would buy the game for its' flying aspects. I was just trying to help those in search of some really challenging and fun dogfighting venues.

most of the -E- ~SE~ (1337 pilots of DC) have gone back to DC

Anyway, I just wanted to see some personal tactics. Not because I would use them against you, but because of human curiousity.

I use the "bait" move myself, but a chase at a different angle is definitely worth remembering.

Its all about fun. I come from MS Flight Simulator myself. I also kicked some serious ass in a helo simulator. They even called in a pro pilot to evaluate my flight. This was an expo event.

In BF2 theres so much less hassle. You boost up and youre there, in the action. It doesnt matter which game youre on- From street fighter to rallye games. If its PvP environment, its friggin fun. And BF2 flight aspect is definitely PvP. You dont have to worry about a whole series of issues that youd worry about in a flight sim.

Give us a break, and youre not the only one constantly calling the "wanna be a 1337 pilot, go play Lock On" shots.

I HAVE played flight sims, I was good at them. So are many others. We do know whats "out there" and we certainly know that BF2 flight is not real flight. Just let us have some fun.
