i was the DC fanboy from hell. i loved it, but it looks terrible compared to BF2. Gameplay wise they are both great, the thing i loved about DC was (as previously mentioned) that infantry had an answer to AIR. AT kit carried stingers which worked, helis took 2 hits, planes 1. U never felt helpless against air like u do in BF2.

DC was super optimized - however, there are settings you can change to make DC look almost as good as BF2

It's all in the optimization, for me BF1942 looks better than BF2.

Because: BF1942 on high is prettier than BF2 on low.

            Good point.

Not only that, half the stuff that used to be optional for video settings in BF42, is no longer an option in BF2 and could probably save alot on framerates. Maybe a bit less than half, but I think you get what I'm trying to say.

Re: Desert Combat VS BF2 for the noobs like me.

You must admit the advantages of the BF2 engine. It feels great which is what I was most concerned with. It's the little things that have gone missing in BF2 I think...Hidden kits like the .50 and VSS...random vehicles that were map specific. Civilian vehicles that sometimes had working parts such as movable cargo beds and working forklifts...Things that were done for fun or just to see if it were possible that made the game feel so much more immersive. Updates were always on the horizon promising (gasp) new maps, new content, and new toys...For free!!!

The main problem with BF2 is the marketing. You can't really blame the makers of the game (well maybe the patch testers, J-10 anyone?) The server community I play on leases a whole new server that has just the best maps of BF2. They changed it when EF came out to EF maps and the Best of BF2 maps. It went from full to absolutely empty within hours. (It has since been changed back and is full once again which is why I'm not saying what server community it is :p ) Special Forces is another example of splitting the community. Most players keep the core BF2 maps running and that's it. Thus it gets boring because it feels like there are no new maps. Ever. None on the horizon either. Dumbass space game on the horizon too. This could be remedied by releasing a mappack or, for the even more lazy, have a contest of community submitted maps (I'd kill for a lost village no para map on a ranked server.)

This WILL cost you EA if you don't address it. The engine has a long life and you had better take some steps or you won't have **** for a community after Battlefield Tek Jansen (2142) comes out...I know fools gotta eat (and stocks need to go up) but longevity is better than death. Keep that in mind when only half the people that bought EF buy Armored Fruitcakes. Basically we're going to be paying 10 bucks to fly the A-10. That's how I see it anyway...Ever thought of charging say 3.95 a month or something along those lines to play on Ranked Servers? With new content monthly? It'd keep people employed working on BF2, make it way more fun, and probably keep your stockholders at bay...Money is not the problem to me, it's having to play specific server for specific maps. It's idiotic.

Holy coffee! Diatribe alert!!! The marketing dept. has been ****ing me off lately, they just seem so out of touch...had to get some of this stuff off my chest. I still play most nights and have a blast. I just wish there were more maps that everyone could play. Sadly nothing is even in the works...

Just some thoughts, tons more where that came from...heh.

personally,i think DC with BF2 graphics and a SRAW type guided missile would pwn BF2.

the hours i spent using tons of sweet stuff in DC that aint in BF2.... flying A10s in desert shield, and when you nail T72s with them the turrets blast off 40 feet in the air, and more often than not you run into them...

when airplanes try and get you in tanks, shoot them with your main gun, worked about 5 times for me.

yeah, i agree with that. and bf1942 on high runs better as well, except for FH, which i was extremely disappointed with, laggy and graphics sucked, their screens on their site were bs.

what hovercraft? was it in that sweet map that you get in boats and go over to the MEC mainland with the M95s?

                    i loved the M249 SAW.

also, the vehicles in desert combat looked good, just not the people heh.

if there was a mod that made BF2 have DC maps with BF2 level graphics and guidable infantry SRAW missiles, i would play that 100 percent of the time.

yep, its a BF2 modification based off of DC, they have a CTF minimod out now, but no new vehicles or maps yet.

hmm CTF , i remember fun NO FLY ZONE ctf games but other than that its not very fun...

they really need to have flag take order. like you NEED to take hotel first, because the rest are untakeable until you get it. no sneaking around back, we want BATTLES. not flag whack a mole!

Battle of Midway... i looked for some screens but could not find any easily. it was implemented in DC 3.5 or 4.0 but i am not positive. if i can get my puter to run dc (bad video card fan right now), i will take a screenie of the hovercraft.

the hovercraft was one feature touted in early bf2 ads that caught my eye, but was removed before launch. here is an interview w/ a developer that computer gaming weekly did:
As for the hovercraft, we cut that because only one or two levels featured it, and we weren’t getting the bang for the buck in terms of work involved/fun factor.
sadly, i dont agree. and here's another site before the launch claiming it would have hovercraft.
